but it's currently on hiatus since I'm experiencing writer's block and computer problems.

My version was (is?) called "The Sweetest Rose", set in modern times with no magic what-so-ever...can that still be called a Fairy Tale? LOL XD

I'm turning Sleeping Beauty into something, evil and can destroy the world. This will be the reason why she is cursed to sleep for eternity. Tragic Love story is my goal here, I guess? sweatdrop No "kiss to awaken" is going to happen here.What about in your story? Can we know some of the 'deets? ^^

Like I said, it's heavy on the political angle. The country has a monarchy that is in trouble. The king came to the throne insanely young, and because of this he ended up as a puppet to some of his nobles who are interested in increasing their own wealth and power. They have raised taxes to pay for raising monuments and military actions. Unrest has started among the lower classes.

Then along comes a report of a miller who (as a joke) talked about his daughter being able to spin straw into gold to pay his taxes. It is decided to make an example of her. Only it turns out she actually can spin straw into gold...

The twist is in the "why". Yes, it is the same story and it follows the same narrative. I'm not trying to change the story, I'm trying to show the same narrative in a way that makes it new and different. It is a look at how perception changes a story, and it is an examination of how we know what we know.

(Also, there is no dwarf who tears himself in two in my story...)
