Tithe, Valiant, Ironside, Faerie Wars, and Paradise and Wanderer. Although I am fond of the "original" versions of the stories Disney ******** over as well (mostly Snow White where the girl isn't an idiot and Cinderella with the stepsisters mutilating their feet), and Transformations (the Anne Sexton fairy tales) as well.

Yanno the ones Disney hasn't made movies of and that are so weird they probably never will?

What are some of your favorites? Share the really weird ones!

My favorites are probably The Twelve Dancing Princesses, The Pied Piper and East of the Sun and West of the Moon. biggrin
barbie did the twelve dancing princesses and i think i heard of east of the sun not sure though. i really like the original stories from Disney the ones that had to be edited for children (ex. Cinderella the step sisters actually cut off their toes and heels to try and fit the slipper.) i am also enjoying seeing our child hood stories being turned into more adult Gothic ones (ex. snow white and the huntsmen, red ridding hood)
Snow White and the Huntsman... I am so planning on going to see this movie, will you?
i am hoping to other wise i'll habe to wait for the dvd release. im currently bugging my fiance about hunger games though i take my movies as they come.

I read Tithe forever ago and liked it, but I never picked up the other ones, how are they?

Valiant (the second book in the series) is better than Ironside, but they're both reallygood.

I'll have to stick them on my to-read list.

I'm a big fan of the Canary Prince. Similar to Rapunzel, only the girl is much more clever and finds a magical book that can turn someone into a canary in her tower.

^ Finally. East of the Sun, West of the Moon was one of my favorite fairy stories as a girl. I must have read every version at every library to which I could convince my parents to take me.

I also loved The Nightingale, but that's mostly because I'm a sucker for tales of selfless sacrifice.

I'm looking for obscure fairy tales, myths and folk lore. Does anyone here have a book or website that they know of that I could find that in?

Here's a site with myths from all over...

http://www.pitt.edu/~dash/folktexts.html

Growing up for me, it was probably the Ice/Snow Queen, though Snow White and Rose Red, and the Maiden with the Seven Swan brothers were memerable as well. The fact that the girl actually did something in them, even if all that something was was to cut down some thorn bushes and be polite to a bear, they still at least showed some iron and presence.
