Welcome to Gaia! ::

Alright, so after being terrified by the way they look, I decided to try some banana chips. Upon first glance they looked like a relatively healthy food. So I was glad to find that I liked them, but then after reading the nutrition label I saw that they are high in saturated fat but are still relatively low in calories. The only ingredients listed were bananas, sugar, and coconut oil.

My google search gives me different answers. Is this snack a health food, or is it just a healthy alternative to potato chips? Or perhaps neither?
If anything, get banana chips that are dehydrated and not fried in oil. The ones that are friend in oil do not taste right to me.

I eat the ones that are dehydrated and it tastes amazing. (looks unappealing, but the flavor is a strong banana flavor.)

Where do you find yours? I work at walgreens, and that's the only place where I can even find the regular banana chips. But I'd like to try the simply dehydrated ones.
Well, my parents goes to vietnam every year and they always bring home dried shrimp and dried banana chips. whee I don't eat them so often because of that, but when I do, it's a treat.

But you can actually make some yourself in an oven. If you can't, you can try a whole foods store.
I just know walmart and target has the one that is fried and then dried. (It's gross. D: )
Yeah, the commercial ones are no better than potato chips. They're dehydrated then deep fried. Just stick with fresh fruit.
I'm not a fan of banana chips, too hard for my liking.

Another thing to be aware of with dried fruit, is that the sugar levels will also be higher per piece than fresh fruit as it's basically condensed, esp things like raisins.

The fried ones are good, the ones that are just dehydrated are very bland.

I think I'll try making my own this weekend. Seems like I can't find non fried ones anywhere!
A pretty healthy snack.

It's probably high in saturated fat because of the coconut oil, which is actually a healthy-ish saturated fat. Some studies have found that it's actually good for you. That said, fried food in general is not the healthiest preparation of food. So everything in moderation I think. Try looking into plantain chips, a banana relative that should have less sugar (its also sometimes salted).

Lucky your parents. Customs takes away most of our food, especially the shrimp paste ninja

I work at Walgreens too! so I know which ones you mean, but I would try going to Whole Foods for them, I work at a Walgreens next to a Whole Foods so its easy for me to go there :3
I tried banana chips once and will never eat them again.

I hated them.

I prefer actual bananas; they are moist, soft, full of flavor, and delicious. The banana chips that I had were terrible; they were dry, had barely any banana flavor, and had the texture of charred cardboard.
