I had one, it was my moms and she used to use it sometimes when I was a kid, but I don't have too much experience with it. I didn't really like it all that much to be honest, if things aren't paper thin it doesn't turn out right, its a pain in the but to get things to not stick or to clean all those little plastic grates stressed
I do like dried food though, and I should get into making it. I was watching Good Eats and he made this rig with a fan, bungee cords, and a few air filters and he used it to dry things a lot better than those little electric plastic do-hickeys. If I were to dry food again, I would probably do something kinda like that.
I know a dude that dried all sorts of things out of his garden, beans, chilies, tomatoes, potatoes, broccoli, it was all really good and I was surprised some of those could be dried like he did.
