Added a new section about stocking your home bar.... I think I might need to make an entirely separate thread for tiki drinks.

A thread about tiki drinks would be greatly appreciated. I'm in desperate need of inspiration for a luau I plan to have this summer.

I can give you a couple of drinks that will be useful for a large party. I guess it depends on how many people are coming, but here are a couple of drinks good for medium to large parties.

Barbancourt Rum Cup
serves 30 give or take.

16 oz of fresh lime juice
16 oz of orgeat syrup
6 dashes of angostura bitters
3 fifths (3 full 750 ml bottles) of Rum Barbancourt.

pour everything into a punch bowl filled with ice and stir.
circa 1960s

If you need something... maybe less massive

Cinerama Luau Punch
serves 12

8 oz of unsweetened pineapple juice
8 oz of fresh lemon juice
8 oz of fresh lime juice
8 oz o orange juice
2 oz orange curaçao
1/2 bottle of white wine
1 1/2 bottles of gold jamaican rum

mix everything in a punch bowl and stir with ice cubes until chilled.
*Don The Beachcomber

Blood of the Kapu Tiki
serves 4-6

3 oz of fresh lime juice
3 oz of fresh grapefruit juice
3 oz of orange juice
3 oz of homemade grenadine
3 oz of sugar syrup
10 oz of amber rum
1/2 tsp of pernode (I just use absinthe since pernode is an absinthe substitute and I can get a three oz bottle of it at bevmo)
3 dashes of angostura bitters.

fill pitcher with crushed ice and add ingredients. swizzle until frost appears on the outside of the pitcher. pour into glasses or tiki mugs (if you have them handy) and garnish with orange and lime wheels. serves 4-6 and is easy to double up on.

Added the old fashioned and the Sazerac at the request of nobody.

Besides those two variations of the old fashioned, two other good ones is the rum old fashioned which trades the angostura bitters with orange bitters. The other is an apple brandy old fashioned which switches maple syrup for the sugar cube.

Added the Paloma Cocktail.
Double Sweet Stag

50ml Jaegermeister
Half pint Red Bull
Large dash of Blackcurrent Cordial
Dash of Lime Cordial

Pour into a pint glass of ice, stir and serve.
I go to a cocktail bar and the bartender does a variation on an old fashioned where he doesn't use fruit in it at all. Rye (because it's better), brown sugar in place of the sugar cube, still Angostura, and instead of using the orange he adds a splash of triple sec, on the rocks. On cherry garnish because those just aren't natural.

Well it looks like everyone is ok one way or the other when it comes to the tobacco being apart of this thread. Was thinking of creating a third thread focusing on tastings such as wines, scotches, rums, tequilas etc.. Hm and new drink of the week... Something with tequila maybe

Hm I'd normally out a rum in my tiki bar thread but since this rum is flavored with gunpowder I will recommend them in both

this would be good—i generally don't do mixed drinks (unless it's gin)

I find that a dash of bitters and some simple syrup can help spice up less expensive bourbons and rums but I have been exploring more sipping spirits lately so when I have time I might make another thread
