Kevin The Vegan
Most sodas are made with corn syrup which from all I know is vegan. Not too good for you, but still vegan. You can also find other smaller brands that make sodas with cane sugar or other forms of sweeteners instead. I'm pretty sure the only thing that would be not vegan in any non-vegan sodas would be any weird flavorings. I've never really heard of a soda being not vegan.
I do recommend that people avoid aspartame and other artificial sweeteners though.
I recommend people stay away from most sodas period.
Most common sodas, like Canada Dry or Sprite - along with having s**t tons of HFCS, have something called Sodium Benzoate in it; along with a lot of citric acid.
The benzoate in the soda binds to the citric acid and forms a carcinogen inside the can or bottle called benzene.
Which, you know, carcinogens are bad man. This is why Cocacola removed it from their product.
And I'd avoid HFCS like the devil too, more so than refined sugar. Really I would. It has a negative impact on the way your body/mind regulates sugar because it doesn't recognize it's *had* sugar, causing you to crave sugar more often later, (causing obesity), along with that there have been reports of high mercury content in many HFCS products itself.
It's kinda sad that they allow poisons to be in cheap stuff like this.
There's no way to tell which refined sugars are made with bone char or not, but personally I wouldn't worry about it so much, because it's not like I drink it every day or keep refined sugar around for myself. If you decide not to eat refined sugar AT ALL for the rest of your life you are really obsessing and taking away what little vegan choices some places offer.
And most organic sodas aren't going to be filled with turbinado sugar, and I wouldn't recommend agave nectar either. (For the high fructose content in that too.)
So unless you're buying an organic real soda from like Whole Foods or something, I'd avoid drinking soda all together and just go for tea or water or something else.
