Bacon lover's thread wink

Because I've felt it necessary, I will now have to post the following:
Your opinions and reasons for disliking bacon are well encouraged, but please do not post gory pictures of animal cruelty, links to pro-vegan/vegetarian sites, or explain how evil we are for loving bacon. If you do not like bacon, it can be said so with words only and I will respect you for not liking bacon. What I will NOT respect is slander against me and others who choose to love such animal products, though I am aware that I must say:
There is no way people can truly love bacon, or any other animal product, without remembering what those animals go through.
In order to better help those animals in duress and to help dissuade animal cruelty, please so the research and suppose cage-free/free range farms.

My love for bacon all started as a little kid, and I still love the fatty greasy stuff up to this day.

My favorite thing to do with bacon is using it in a variety of things. Most recently, I've made cupcakes with bacon flavored buttercream topped with bacon bits. It was absolutely delicious. I'll think about sharing the recipe later wink But for now, go make some bacon muffins *recipe after the Q&A Section*

I LOVE bacon wrapped seafood though. Especially when bacon wrapped scallops are served with spicy mayo.

So tell me about yourselves smile

Hatfield, of course. Living so close to their service area, our grocery stores get a never ending supply for freshly cut bacon!

Do you eat bacon by itself or always as a side/mix-in for a bigger meal?
I'll eat it just however I please! But it's best by itself. I would LOVE to try bacon with ice cream though!! Oh, Dennys..y u no near my neighbor so I can has bacon sundae?

Do you like your bacon cooked crispy or somewhat fatty?
Actually, I like my bacon a bit on a fatty side. I guess cause I like the chewy texture.

If your a vegetarian!! - Have you found a delicious non-meat substitute for bacon? (hey, it could exist!)
I am not a vegetarian.

If you can't eat bacon for religious reasons - have you found a delicious kosher variety? (that could exist too, we won't know if you don't share!)
I've actually realized that there are kosher brands of bacon bits for salad toppings, and they are soy based. They're actually pretty good!! Good to know if you're a vegetarian too.

I don't like bacon.

I never have because it's greasy and disgusting to me, but this is another reason:

[link removed]

I respect your reply and the possible fact that you may be a vegan, but please try not to kill my thread so soon with anti-carnivorous pictures and links.

You are correct though that unfortunately animal cruelty does play a part in the making of most meat products, and that fact should not be forgotten. I, as a culinary chef in training, shouldn't be able to say that "BACON IS GOOD!!" without remembering the pigs (and other animals for other meats) and what they go through.

But then again, that's why it's a good thing to do the research and support cage-free farms when you can.

I LOVE BACON
Mmm, bacon. <3~

I love bacon. I started eating it when I was a kid. I don't get fancy with it; I eat it on occasion as a side-dish for breakfast, normally with eggs. I can not eat fatty bacon; it has to be nice and crispy. The most "complex" thing I do with bacon is toss some bits into my salad. lol. > w <

I don't like bacon for a couple of reasons.

It is so fatty! It leaves a nasty coating in the mouth. So much horrible, horrible grease. It's also way too salty. Ugh.

I'm also not comfortable with the ethics of pork bacon. Pigs are intelligent, curious animals, but intensive batch penned farming with no environmental enrichment is the norm for most bacon production. Intensive farming of this sort is also bad news because pig diseases can cross to humans very easily, and having so many animals in such a small area basically makes your pig farm a virus factory. We dodged a bullet with swine flu, how it turned out to be mild for the majority, and only deadly for a relatively small proportion of people. It could have been far worse than it was, and in the future, it might be.

My next question for you then, since you're mostly talking about pork bacon & the ethics that go behind its production, is how are your views with turkey bacon? Do you tend to avoid that as well?

If you mean that over-processed crap that is mashed, molded and dyed to look like bacon? [********] yes I'd avoid it! Grease, salt, and artifical flavours. Mmmmm, yum.

LOL! That's why I avoid Turkey bacon myself personally >_>

If I had a choice between real bacon, for as salty and greasy as it is, to fake bacon I would go with the real stuff...
