Hmm...hot topic...
Well, the games I've played thoroughly are VIII, IX, X. I'm still at the starting points of VII, X-2, and XII, and I had already been on maybe a fifth or fourth of VI when I had to start all over again. The III that I have is the DS version, so I base my opinion of it on that (I know I've tried the original one before, but I forgot how it was or went).
Basing on those things, I must say that after X, the next games have been quite disappointing. Square Enix made changes that were too major, like the replacement of the summons with dress spheres in FFX-2. I liked the change in the battle system because it was more active. The music, though...almost made me cry. It was not the FF music I had grown accustomed to. And the missions + the multiple endings just don't have my favor. I never really liked multiple endings because they don't make the story look real enough.
As for FFXII, I simply got bored. It was the battle system, I tell you. If you were randomly battling, and the enemies were weak, you'd fall asleep on the couch waiting for Vaan or another character finish slashing at the monsters, because you know it'll be a waste of time expending any magic or items or summons on those monsters. The resulting style of the character graphics was a fail, too, I guess. The FMVs were good, but back to normal graphics, Vaan's face looked like he had ultra large eye bags or something.
Oh well...The game I hate the most is FFXI. Reason: No to MMORPG in an RPG series. Just no.
As for the most hated character...Aeris, Quistis, Seifer, Seymour.
Aeris for being the perfect girl and the damsel in distress (two types of girls I really hate), Quistis for thinking that she likes Squall, Seifer for simply being Seifer, and Seymour for being effing irritating to the bones, trying to be cool when he just looked gay.
