Now it's no surprise that Square Enix has a very large amount of remakes and re-releases under their belt when it comes to the Final Fantasy series. After all, it allows games from an earlier age and time to be accessible to the newer age of gamers after all!

But how do you stand on the ideas of this? With games like Final Fantasy IV having had a total remake on the PSP/DS/GBA if you wanna count that along with it's sequel game, and the up and coming FFX remake on the horizon, do you stand behind it and have you actually bought these said games?

Do you believe it's a good thing that they are re releasing older games on newer platforms to allow others to play them? Generally in the FF series of course.

Or is it considered a cash cow rather then another open door to the gamers who don't have those older platforms?

Or do you think that they should be focusing on a total remake (like they did with FFIV a million times over) on the older games or attempt to create new FF IP?

For the record, here's the list of the games that have been remade/re-released onto different platforms from the FF series (If I miss one, let me know! This is off the top of my head XD) and also will only cover the western releases because oh my goodness is there a ton of re-releases in Japan for this series.

Game Re-Releases and Remakes:
Final Fantasy I:
Playstation 1, PSP, WiiVC, GBA, PSN

Final Fantasy II:
PS1, PSP, GBA, PSN

Final Fantasy III:
DS (though this can be argued as a first, as this game never came to the west until this game)

Final Fantasy IV:
PS1, PSP, WiiVC(under the name of II), DS, GBA

Final Fantasy V:
GBA, PSN (the PS1 version was a first bring over thing, I am not sure if it should count like the FFIII DSand FFII PS1 version)

Final Fantasy VI:
PS1, WiiVC, PSN, GBA

Final Fantasy VII:
PSN, PC

Final Fantasy VIII:
PSN, PC

Final Fantasy IX:
PSN

The rest of the FF games have yet to get re-releases (FFX is not on this list because it is not out yet) unless I totally missed them.

Your thoughts? By the way this is not just a "what game should they remake" thingy, I'm more curious to the thoughts of re releases in the FF series to some of the fans.

I and II were grouped into a special release on the PSN just recently I believe. And I think V and VI are also on the PSN.

Ah right I forgot about the FFV one and the Origins on PSN, le fixed! But I couldn't find any info on FFIII also appearing on the PSN (Unless it is actually the FFVI version with the FFIII name)

Whoops. You're right. III wasn't included, just I and II.
i would like to say that the re-releases were to invelope older final fantasy games to a newer generation but i believe its merely a cash cow for them. i personally still have my snes with ff3. and my ps 1 with 7 and 8.

I don't care if they did it for money if it means that new gen. gamers don't have to pay 100+ dollars to get FFVII.

For me, I'm seriously considering getting IX, since I never got to play it, and I keep hearing how good it is. I just have to get my internet hooked up somehow.

Yeah. This is a rather beneficial cash cow for the players. It allows us to play almost every Final Fantasy on our newer consoles. And ontop of that, I can play games like VII and VIII on my PSP while on the go. ;D
the iphone gets no love? :l

i, ii, and iii, and wotl were all released on the iphone just fyi.

Oh, I didn't include the iphone because I didn't think of it (not going to bother to add it in though, because that's a list of gaming systems.) Not sure if the android or whatever else is against the iphone has any of that stuff as well.

I recently got FFT for my PSP off the PSN, and was so happy that the slow down present in the Lions War version wasn't there.
It sure is a cashcow, but if you missed the chance before to get the older games it's also a good opportunity. I only started the FF franchise with VII, so I got me the older games through those re-releases
I think calling it a cash cow is a cop out.
Especially when considering that anything a company does is for money...
It's why the company exists.. is to make Money.

That aside, I think it's a good thing people be given a chance to see how great the series used to be as opposed to wherever the fk its headed now.

Oh, and FFT had a remake on the PSP, also.

hmmm idk i mean there is few i would love to see in PS3 graphis but i know most also think it would just ruin the game but we each have are own views lol and any clue what there remaking FF10 for or is there no info yet?
I like the fact that they remade the games for portable systems. Especially 7,8, and 9. I dont know how many times I beat the first one, but when I was able to get it for my iPhone I got it ASAP, along side tactics. Although there was a sale when tactics came out, and got 1-2 for 3$ I got the 7-9 on ps, but I really do find it convenient to be able to play it hand held. Where and whenever I want. XD
