I think X and VII are extremely, highly, horribly overrated.

For anyone who has seen Spoony's review of FFX on ThatGuyWithTheGlasses he pretty much hit every problem I have with that game on the head. It is a beautiful game, but that is about it. Some of the bosses are good too. I also think it is the most bland combat system EVER. There is nothing there to keep you on your toes. It is the only game I have ever played where I can literally walk away from the screen for hours and not get game over. It is turn-based combat in its blandest and most boring form.

As for VII I am working on writing a scathing review of it because I am tired of the endless fanfags acting like VII is the end-all-be-all of RPG's. It probably wouldn't even make it in the top 10 for me...maybe, well I could see it being somewhere in the 8-10 range on my list. I am not going to even get started on what I think of it. That being said, it WAS the game that got me into the series and yes I do enjoy it, but the FFVII fans completely ruin it for me because every time they talk about another game in the series their opinion can usually be summed up with "it isn't 7" Yeah it isn't, shut up.

XII, XIII, and XIII-2 would all probably make it in my top 5.

So I am going to have to disagree with you, new FF is definitely getting better (for the most part).

Yeah, it's always fair to judge the opinion of an a*****e whose literally banned hundreds of his own fans from his website because they questioned him. Even once on Live TV, during a charity program, this fan of his donated 300 dollars to this charity just to talk to him, he asked him why he would never play FF9 and Spoony told him off and hung up on him. After he DONATED 300 DOLLARS.

Yeah, that's the person I want to take the opinion of a game from. - nods -

I had the opinions before I ever saw the review. In fact I had played the game through, side quests and all, around 5 or 6 times. Just because he is an a*****e doesn't mean that his opinions on a video game are wrong, I didn't TAKE them from him. I watched the videos and said "hm, I agree." The fact that he did something like that has absolutely no correlation with his FFX review.

I mean people are still fans of Megan Fox, Jennifer Lopez, Charlie Sheen, and other celebrities despite the fact that they're all assholes.
So a new update just came through from Square Enix that the FF10 coming to PSVita is going to be a remaster with not a damn thing changed on it, just prettier graphics.

No ******** effort at all, will be put into the game.

Uhhh, that in itself tells you about the New Final Fantasy Era.

Here's how it comes down, and this isn't just Final Fantasy but Square Enix as a whole:

They're ******** lazy. They don't even try anymore. They fired their entire writing department and just hired monkeys and trained them to throw darts at post-it notes on a board that say "Remake; Port; Shitty Irrelevant Sequel" in column 1, "Final Fantasy, Parasite Eve, Dragon Quest, etc" in column 2

They're starting to take notes from Nintendo on how not to try in their games and it's gotten to the point where even Nintendo starting to get a little envious on how lazy this company has gotten.

Let's see...

Parasite Eve 3rd Birthday: Have you PLAYED this? Seriously. The controls are ******** awful, the story is completely irrelevant.

Mindjack: ...You know, from here on out, I'm going to leave out Eidos but I still have to say... What the ********?

Kingdom Hearts BBS, 384/2, coded, DDS: STOP MAKING KH GAMES. Seriously, you tricked us already with BBS into thinking there was something there, and it's gotten to the point where you're literally just feeding us s**t and sayin "OH IT'S IMPORTANT. JUST WAIT, IT'LL EVENTUALLY LEAD TO KH3"

It reminds me almost of Valve with Half-Life Ep.3 or Half-LIfe 3. They keep dangling it over our faces, giving us this s**t and telling it's important.

Final Fantasy XIV: Okay, I have a feeling the entire reason this game came out was to replace FFXI's system where it literally has no future. I mean it, it can't get any bigger all because they put it on PS2. That being said, the limit for data has been reached with Wings of the Goddess and now all they can do is release story patches and pretty much just ******** with what little they can....

That being said, what the hell? The classes are EXACTLY the same but with different names. It's completely empty, it plays like a**, it's just... What were you thinking! And then you go ahead and try to fix it? Why don't you just take FFXI, remaster it, add some content... like for example the entire FFXIV, and there ya go. You fixed it.

It's not that hard. World of Warcraft did it with the Outlands. Make FFXIV the Outlands and you have it. Don't fix what's not broken.

FFXIII: Honestly, I liked this game but when they took 10 years to make this engine and it turned out THIS bad, honestly did anything in the studio playtest this thing? It pretty much forces you to sit back and hit X, and it's a damn shame too because 13-2 would have been one of the best FF games if it werent for this shitty engine holding it back.

With hallways, auto-play, limiting your levels, and such a small amount of customization. FFXIII was pretty much as low as you can get when it comes to actually PLAYING the game. You're literally there just to hit X.

And sadly this actually entertained me. However I will still note that I can see why people hated it.

YOU KNOW WHATS SAD? I was reading the Wiki entry of SE just to see what games they released recently and...

THIS IS IT. THIS IS ALL THEY DID. These people are relying so heavily on Eidos that they can't release a ******** game to save themselves...

God help the future of this company, cause I can see it being called Namco Bandai Square Enix when Namco takes them over when their stocks drop into the Penny Stocks

Not all of us are fanfags. I love VII personally, it's one of my favorite games. And I have played the entire series, AND VII was not my first. But my four favorite FFs are 7, 9, 10, and 12. I love them all about equally as my favorite tends to shift.

On the other hand, I think XIII is garbage, and hard as I try cannot figure out why so many people LOVE it. It's holds up decently for the most part, but is certainly nothing past average. And the ending is the most god-awful bit of trash I've ever had the displeasure of witnessing.

So you write your scathing review of VII, and I'll write my scathing review of XIII. Weee opinions!

IX is my favorite

This inspiration for this review and the start of it took place well before I was back on this area of the site. It all started because I was discussing the series with a friend and he said he never got into it or all that much gaming in general because he had a friend in high school who anytime he brought up a cool new game he had played this friend always said something along the lines of "OH NO MAN, IT ISN'T FINAL FANTASY 7, YOU HAVE TO PLAY FINAL FANTASY 7 BEFORE YOU CAN CALL ANYTHING ELSE COOL"

After hearing this and reading multiple reviews of FFXIII-2 where people pretty much only criticized it by comparing it to FFVII and saying that was the peak of the series and that it has gone downhill ever since. After that I felt like I had to because it is a good game and FFVII fanfags really need to stop their worship, you'd think they'd have an open mind or be happy with the fact that Square has already made 5604586704586786746098746098 extensions to that one game.

I tried watching that dribble of a review and it was so padded with inane rants and absurd complaints that it sounded like a child trying to convince his mom to not let the boy at school stay over.

With the a**-meter. pointing out that the machine in Zanarkand has no purpose even though it's never mentioned or bares no weight on the game, it just made me wonder how desperate he was to actually drive a point.

BUT DEY HAVENT REMADE IT YET1 DERRR

No I understand you're point. That's a shame though, I haven't seen a FFXIII-2 review that compared it to VII, but that's definitely a shame that they did. A lot of people don't seem to understand technical progress and nostalgia can never be compared. While I don't like a lot of the things they're doing with the newer games, you can't compare them to VII. Or XII. Or III for that matter because the whole basis of this series is that every game is different.

I watched that review well before I ever knew he was a jackass. I went to the site for Nostalgia Critic/Nostalgia Chick, I saw that somebody did a review for FFX, I watched it, I shared some opinions with it. That is all. I never said he was a qualified, credible critic or even a nice guy. I just said that he did hit nearly every problem I have with the game.

He may be an a*****e and some of his points may have been nit-picky but that doesn't mean that I can't inadvertently share opinions with him. I mean you're essentially doing the same thing here. I say that I agree with something someone said and you pick that out to respond to and say that because he is an a*****e I shouldn't agree with him on that one issue. The fact that he is an a*****e is completely arbitrary as is me saying that I agree with (most, not all) his opinions of the game.

EDIT: One thing I did not like about his review was when he criticized the voice acting of Tidus and Yuna outside of Luca by just showing their laughing, which is something people do all the time. People (including him) leave out the fact that the scene was not only meant to be a humorous one, but that they were fake laughing, which is something people in real life don't even sound right doing.

FF7 fanboys are just a bunch of whiny bastards. There are only a few actual SANE people among them. You're not the first person to feel this way about them, believe me. Maybe they should just be put in their own seperate fandom where they can annoy each other instead of everyone else...

Anyone being a jackass cannot be considered a reliable "critic." It's a sign that they are biased and have no concept of the word "fairness." For instance, they will say things like "FFX is a pile of s**t that should be burned and launched into space!" instead of just point out what they did not like in a civil manner.

For example, look how many dislikes my thread has. Did I once state my opinion immaturely, or bash a game into the ground? Perhaps my top post was a bit harsh, but I explained WHY i don't like the newer games, civilly if i should say so. Some people just can't accept that i grew up with a different final fantasy. And that's all it is really. Everyone grew up with a different interpretation of ff.

How do long-time fans of Final Fantasy like FFXIII and XIII-2? What did you even like about FF that makes you like XIII and XIII-2

Just a thought, but perhaps a majority of them started in the late generation and saw that as what final fantasy should be.

Kind of like how i started on games like 7-10, and why i like them more than the others. XII was pretty good too, but it was lacking in something...

That's what it all comes down to. Square is not just a lazy bunch of dudes trying to pull themselves out of the quicksand. It kind of reminds me of nintendo, consideirng how the only game of theirs that got any sort of attention recently is Skyward Sword.

It sucks to watch the great fall from the top, but we also have to remember exactly how long both companies have been around o.o they're the grandfathers of gaming.

Yeah, but The GDs Ianto Jones guy seems to be a long-time fan (or at least he makes it seem so), and he said XIII and XIII-2 both are in his top 5. I really want to know what he even liked about FF to begin with if he was a long time fan and actually enjoyed XIII and XIII-2.

I mean, I started with VII, so I liked character design and story when I first got into Final Fantasy, both of which are mediocre at best in FFXIII/XIII-2. Not to mention exploration and the surrounding universe as a whole, which are all pretty much the worst in the XIII games.

Bingo. That's one of XIII's biggest problems. LACK of exploration. It's just pretty to look at.

I wonder if it would have as many fans if it were released in a world where graphics don't mean a damn thing. It would probably fail miserably. I've been nice and listened to everyone's opinions, but some people have really made me lose hope for the gaming community of today. I never realized until now how shallow some fans can really be.
