LOL This new generation are total idiots, not all, just most, they think they can just get by on next to nothing when it comes to education and think they will survive, what what will have to our two 'friends' when they realise they may just fail at their goal to become famous and have to get a normal job? I know these days employers seem to hire the ignorant and the ones who fail at school (I still go through drive thru's where they need a calculator of using their fingers to count) but still, I doubt they will hire people who couldn't even read an order at McDonalds.
And come on, Shin, this is an RPG game, look at how many people don't read the texts in the boxes, we still have people who honestly belive Hojo was just some mad man, wanting to 'have a sexy son' as his own and Vincent is really Sephiroths father, now I wont deny Hojo isn't a total mad man but still, it shows how ignorant they are.
Of course, this IS the FFVII fandom which is in a league all their own (and of course not all of them are complete dolts) but still...
Hey, I still count on my fingers (especially for multiplication; ever since my mom taught me the trick with using your fingers for the nines table. Hell yes.) and the little counting dots they taught me in kindergarten, and when I worked retail, I totally relied on the computer to do the math for me; I barely scraped out a C+ in Advanced Algebra. The only numbers I'm any good with are historical dates and static figures and the like; I can only do simple math in my head and greatly prefer to do it on paper so I can be sure I get the right answer. That's why I'm not a math major; I'm studying the things I'm good at instead (Japanese and Music double major).
In any case, I don't blame the kids, I blame our education system; it's starting to come apart at the seams due to lack of funding, lack of good teachers and lack of reasonable expectations. Because the government wants students to reach a certain benchmark, schools lower the expectations so that everyone 'wins'. Go take a 'minimum requirement for graduation' class at your high school and you'll see what I mean; now that I'm in college, I finally feel like I have reached a place where I am intellectually where I belong, and it took me 20 years to get here, for crying out loud.
Not to derail the off-topic conversation about the decay of our youth as demonstrated by a troll and some people who are unlikely to stick around the thread debating anyway, but could we get back to the topic of video games? XDD What was the last FFVII related item we were discussing? Vincent's phone and funky sound effects, right?
The weird Vincent sound only plays once in the Bahamut fight, which is nice, because it's a silly whistling noise, and it's distracting.
During the Reminiscence of Final Fantasy VII, Vincent calls Cloud (just as everyone else does in that feature), and at the end of their conversation, asks Cloud to tell Yuffie not to use his phone anymore. I'm going ahead and assuming that Reminiscence takes place after Advent Children, but before Dirge of Cerberus, where Vincent
does have a phone, if I remember correctly.
(Also, as for the 'Vincent is Sephiroth's father' thing, I think that is often them willfully denying Sephiroth's lineage. I'm perfectly happy to read, say, an Alternate Universe story where Vincent is Sephiroth's father, but I can't stand people who say that 'Vincent
is Sephiroth's father' because they 'don't want Hojo to be Sephiroth's father'. Hey, guess what? He is. Get over yourselves.)
I've started replaying VII as well (yay for the PSN downloads), and I'm taking my sweet time...and taking notes. God, I'm nuts... Also, I finally finished my translation and reinterpretation of Loveless. The more I worked with it, the more the in-game translation came to irk me in various places. (The final lines of Act III, specifically) While it was quite good overall, it wasn't very poetic.
