I just watche AC for the first time. I liked the movie a lot, but didn't like how Yuffie, Cait Sith and Red XIII were represented. I thought Cloud's weapons were amazing, and the film was in general a good movie.

O.O.

There's nothing here. Strange.

can we discuss sephiroth's origins?

It's kinda sad that between FFVII, Last Order and Crisis Core they've retconned the Nibelheim incident so many times.

I think they've got it worked out now in Crisis Core.
Last Order seems to be considered non-canonical, given that it's so different than the events presented in every one of the games.

Which is odd, considering that it's not fan-made or anything; it's endorsed by Square-Enix.

What about Sephiroth's origins shall we discuss?

Isn't there a lot about it in Drige of Cerberus? I never played the game though, so I don't really know. And I have yet to find a complete walthrough or playlist of the cutscenes on YouTube so I don't even have a reference.

Yeah, there's a bit in Dirge of Cerberus, but it's more focused on Lucrecia. It's more along the lines of 'Oh yeah, and she gave birth to Sephiroth. Whatever. Let's watch her have another spazz attack in front of Vincent's dead body! Oh, and the Tsviets! THEY'RE IMPORTANT AND UNRELATED!'

I really wanted them to expand on the character of Gast, if not in DC, then in CC, and they didn't. He's one of the few people that Sephiroth ever respected, and he's Aerith's freaking DAD, and not knowing anything about him is driving me insane.

I agree. I wanted to know more about Professor Gast than the Tsviets and their background. Wasn't Gast one of the founders that discovered JENOVA? I wanted to know about what happened to Gast after that discovery and before he was killed.

Knowing more about Ifalna would be interesting as well.

Yes, Gast was the head of the Science Department before Hojo, and probably made the initial discovery of Jenova. He left Shinra sometime before Sephiroth's 8th birthday; we can't be sure when, because we don't know exactly how long he was at Icicle Lodge with Ifalna, but it had to be with her at least a year. Bow-chika-bow-bow...

Anyway. I would love to know more about Gast and Ifalna. I mean, for background characters, they're really important. I mean, just think about what Sephiroth's life would have been like if Gast hadn't died...think about what Aerith's life would have been like if Gast hadn't died.

Gast was practically like a father figure to Sephiroth and probably hearing the full story of his birth would have changed him.

I wonder how Gast and Ifalna met in the first place. I mean, Ifalna was the last living full-blooded cetra, so wouldn't she have to stay away from Shinra so she wouldn't get experimented on? And yet, she ended up with Gast and gave birth to Aerith.

Pruning the quote tree. :3

Considering the age that Sephiroth would have been when Gast was still around, and the way he idolized the man even as a grown adult, Gast would have certainly been a father figure to Sephiroth. Also telling is the fact that the FFVII team has said in official materials that while writing the story, one of the relationships they considered for Aerith and Sephiroth was brother and sister. Traces of this connection still linger in the actual story: Gast was a father figure to Sephiroth in his youth and the 'father' of the Jenova Project (making Sephiroth a metaphorical son), and was the birth father of Aerith herself. (But then again, another connection they considered for Aerith and Sephiroth was being former lovers. They fixed that with Zack, thus connecting her to Cloud instead. Still, Aerith seems to have a thing for SOLDIERs...)

I think that if Gast had been the one to tell Sephiroth about his origins, he wouldn't have lost it. But then again, perhaps if he had been told about his origins by someone other than an insane man at his most emotionally weak moment, he probably wouldn't have lost it anyway.

Just have to say.
DoC had the worst boss battle ever.

Yeah, most of 'em were pretty ridiculous... I'm looking at you Rosso. stare

The original game is by far the best of them all, although I do like all of them for different reasons, but mainly because it's FF7 and that's always been my favorite. I brother and I recently played through the original and have some funny and some annoying stories related to that excursion. My favorite FF7 character, and favorite Final Fantasy character of them all, is without question Vincent Valentine.

(Mm...Aerith likes the tough boys with the nice abs. XD) If Aerith and Sephiroth had a connection in the game, it probably would have changed the story and her fate.

Now that I think about it, I'm curious how Ifalna and Aerith actually escaped the lab. They probably would have had help from the outside. (I'm thinking it's Sephiroth) but wouldn't their escape plan have to be quite complex because they'd have to avoid being caught by the Shinra staff?

Oh yeah, the DoC battle with Rosso was quite disappointing, really. I thought it would have been more difficult, but it didn't take me long to beat her.
Even the final battle with Weiss was easy.

I think DoC was more about story than fights. Personally... I would've made the last boss a hard sucker to defeat.... But that won't happen. Ever. I still liked the story though.

Hm... one question though... why was Omega mentioned in this but not the others? I know Chaos was there, that's 100%. But... Omega? What? Where did HE come from?!
