"Final Fantasy VII is the most highly-respected entry in the history of the Final Fantasy franchise, possessing possibly the most memorable storyline in the history of video games.

"It brings me great pleasure to see Final Fantasy VII available to play once again and I am sure that it will create a whole new generation of fans."

So, its finally made availible worldwide to download as a classic across the playstation network. Does anybody believe this could be a sort of test? To see how many people download it before they consider doing a remake?

Put your qualms about "I DONT WANT A REMAKE BECUZ/I DO WANT A REMAKE BECUZ!!!" aside and speculate with me.

Could Square Enix be testing the water before they decide to jump in?

Just a theory.

I doubt it. There's already high demand for a remake, so why would they waste money on some 'test' when they already know what the fans want?

There was high demand for a remake - but when a remake just wasnt possible. People have moved on, they have found different compliations that they love and very recently FFVII has been blasted as "over rated".
Releasing it on the PSN would be, undenibly, a very clever way to get a very clear view of how many people would be willing to buy this game.

It would make finacial sense to remake an extreamely popular game and by viewing how many downloads the original gets WORLDWIDE would seriously set the foundation for a future remake.

In this troubled economic climate, Hollywood is turning to old movies and remaking them because they know they'll get a good turnout, why cant the same be said for next generation gaming?

I guess you're right, but what if it doesn't sell that well just because many fans already have the original copy?

I have the original copy. I've made an EBOOT from my original copy to play it on my PSP. I bought it from the PSN anyways, and play that now on my PSP.

I am a consumer whore and so are alot of people... And also, Square will remake FF VII when they feel like it.

I don't think it was they had no desire to remake the game, I think it was more of if they did remake it the original team would need to be there and currently they are working on other projects.

For all we know Square could be meeting in a secret underground bunker in Tokyo quietly working on the remake rofl
I put the PSN FFVII on my PSP and I noticed something. The sound for a few things is off. When Cloud swings his sword it sounds like a laser gun.

Completely hilarious. Is anyone else having this issue?

Don't most of the original team work for Mistwalker now, anyways?

Yea, it probably happened while changing the img files into an EBOOT. I don't think it can really be helped.... Although sound wise it, at least it doesn't crackle when on a custom EBOOT.

The only Key member that went over to Mistwalker is Sakaguichi. Nomura, Kitase, Nojima are still at Square. Uematsu does free lance, and even if Uematsu wouldn't want to work on a remake, I'm sure Takeharu Ishimoto would have no qualms, considering he did the soundtrack for Crisis Core. I believe Amano is still at Square too, considering he did the logo for FFXIII and some painting for Versus.

I don't really think they'd need Sakaguichi for a remake, so after XIII is complete and Versus, then they would all be free for such a project.

I just need to get this off of my chest and say Final Fantasy was the biggest disgrace to Final Fantasy ever!

No, the sound comes in quite clear on mine.
Ever since they released the PS3 tech demo, people have been convinced that they're remaking FFVII. Square said that they weren't, but that was then. Now, they've released Advent Children (twice), Before Crisis, Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus. Every main character now has a suitable HD model from being in AC or any of the above games (Crisis Core has beautiful cutscenes containing characters not featuring in AC, and incidental characters could be made from the various townsfolk of Edge). They have renders of many original game locations from the modern generation of FFVII games to work from. I wouldn't be surprised at all if people were throwing their spare hours into secret FFVII work.

No one is seriously going to believe that Square wouldn't cash in on their biggest cow by releasing a PS3-remake of FFVII. I think it's likely, in fact, that they re-released FFVII on the PSN in order to offer an alternative to the extreme purists who hate the Compilation and don't want to see the classic 'tainted' in any way, shape or form. When/if they remake VII for the PS3, they will certainly tie in elements from the other installments of the Compilation.

Examples:
The members of AVALANCHE will likely talk about the old days of the organization, back when Elfe and Shears and Fuhito and them were around.
The Turks will likely reminisce about their old comrades (Cissnei, Rod, Etc.) when you see them in the Don Corneo sidemission in Wutai.
Yuffie and Vincent likely won't be optional characters anymore, meaning that you'll get all that wonderful storyline about Lucrecia, and that crazy Yuffie sidemission to get Leviathan will be less obscure-sounding.
The Nibelheim flashback will likely become officially part of the main storyline, rather than forcing you to backtrack to a location where there is nothing new for you to obtain (this would probably be tied into the Lucrecia stuff, since Lucrecia's Cave is near Nibelheim, and if Vincent is made an official cast member rather than optional, then the location of his final weapon and Limit Break will be made more explicit).
The fact that Red XIII is not actually the last of his kind will likely be made a little more obvious (his mate was in a cave meditating or something of that sort during the events of VII). (As well as the fact that Bugenhagen is NOT his biological grandfather; oh my GOD, why is this so hard for people to grasp?!)
Characters featuring later in the series (Deepground SOLDIER, Shalua Rui, Denzel, etc.) may get incidental roles, or at least be mentioned in passing to tie everything together more neatly.

Not to mention that all those fun translation errors will be fixed ('This guy are sick!' 'Off course!' 'Beacause you are a puppet!'), spell names will be updated to fall in line with the current naming scheme (Bolt3 - Thundaga, Ice2 - Blizzara, etc.) and things that were initially translated in an interesting fashion will be corrected (Helletic Hojo - Heretic Hojo, Touph Ring - Tough Ring, etc.)

lol @ not proof-reading. I'd respectfully disagree with what I assume is your intended statement, and argue that FFX-2 was a pretty big disgrace. Of all the Final Fantasies that didn't need a continuation, I'd say that X needed one the least. Everything was tied up so neatly at the end of X...
If they ever made a remake, the numerous amounts of things added would probably be mind numbing. Though, onw wonders if thry would stick with the active time battle system, or come up with something new. Maybe even get into the relations that some characters portray in Advent children as well as Dirge of cerberus...that whole thing with Vincent and Yuffie is one example. Though I must admit it would be kind of cool to see all of Vincent's monster forms redone, aside from Galian and Chaos.

On a side note, was anyone else a little saddened at the loss of Chaos at the end of Dirge. I know Vincent still has his other forms...and is still as far as I know eternally youthful. But to me it seemed like the loss of a beloved character. Even if it is a symbolism of Vincent finally coming to terms with events of his past. A metaphorical loss of weight on his shoulders

Exactly. The experience would be much more immersive, now that the rest of the Compilation has been worked on. Things like the war with Wutai have been fleshed out in greater detail now; the history and events aren't so sketchy anymore (considering that in FFVII, our most ready link to the past, Cloud, wasn't actually in any of the places he said that he was, with the sole exception of Nibelheim). Plus, map locations like Banora and Modeoheim will be visitable.

It probably won't touch on AC and DC relationships, since AC and DC take placee 2-3 years in the future. A lot of the relationships seen in AC and DC are a direct result of the events of VII.

It's entirely possible that, if the fan reaction to the XIII battle system is favorable (I like it well enough), they'll use that in a VII remake; the XIII battle system was inspired by Advent Children's action, after all.

I don't know. I was more thinking 'WTF VINCENT, SHELKE IS A 19-YEAR-OLD IN A 9-YEAR-OLD BODY. I DON'T CARE IF SHE DOWNLOADED LUCRECIA'S PERSONALITY, YOU'RE 60' at the end of Dirge of Cerberus. I was also thinking 'Goddamnit, Red XIII got the shaft again...'
OMG I have to agree with you. I do not agree with the whole creepy Shelke thing...maybe if she found a way to grow up, but even then...
I think it was implied to a certain extent, though I just dont see Vincent as a pedafile.
