Welcome to Gaia! ::

Just sort of wondering how different the battle system and leveling are in FFXIV, when compared to FFXI.

And as a side note...
Was anyone else disappointed with the keeping of the same races?
confused
Very disappointed by the same races. I played 11 for years before quitting and I considered, when I heard about it's development, trying out 14. But seeing the exact same races but with different names. I just thought, "F@ck this."
Agreed with the same races. I think its dumb that they would try and preserve the same statistics as before anyway, but even if that's what they were going for, they could have made new races with similar stats. Example being a bird-people race instead of a cat-people race. Even most of their names are similar. The only race that actually succeeds in looking any different from its predecessor is the Lalafell, but even that looks too similar to TaruTaru.

From what I've seen, XIV appears to have a much faster system than XI, which appeared to focus heavily on macros. Also, XIV seems to have much stronger solo-ing to it.

Crafting/Alchemy on the other hand, appear to be a royal pain in the Marlboro. It may have been fixed in recent patches, though.

(This is coming from someone who has watched some streams of FFXIV at different points in its history).
Leveling in FFXIV has been much easier for me than FFXI. I played FFXI a few years ago, so I don't know if they changed it or anything. FFXIV hasn't felt like a grind for me yet. I've just been doing the quests and leves. I do kill monsters here and there, but not for too long.

FFXIV's leveling system is a bit broken, however... You can power level big time in this game. Say you and a high level friend party together, and they gather a whole bunch of mobs. What they can do is leave the party, and kill all the mobs. You will get a loooot of experience points from doing this depending on the mob.

Also, I think they're adding new sexes (Male Miqo'te/Female Roegadyn) as well as new races in 2.0 (alongside the PS3 FFXIV release).
So, I bought FFXIV... And, my computer can't run it, even being somewhere over the Min Reqs and somewhere just below the Recommended Reqs.

Since finding it won't run on my computer, I have actually started playing FFXI a bit.

Does suck, though... I wish I could play XIV.

Leveling in XI is much easier now due to the "training regime" books, which would be called "quests" in any given f2p MMORPG.

well i still cant wait until it comes out on ps3
I'll probably play it a bit wen it comes out on PS3, but only if I can afford the subscription.
Well, for anyone else who also wonders the same thing.

No, the leveling is not nearly as tedious in XIV as it was in XI.
And, the fighting is alot more upbeat, compared to the bland battles of XI.

I'm glad I didn't play XIV during the first year, though, as I have heard awful things.

Ffxiv is being slowly revamped until the 2.0 release, basically re-releasing the game, but calling it 2.0 because its now under new development and so far is getting much better, overal what does race matter, its basically all skill based anyways, the little boost that you got from specific races was nullified by wearing enchanted gear anyways.

Ffxiv isnt like 11, not as much content but come on, ff11 was on the forefront of online gaming, you cant expect a 1 year old game to oust a dinosaur like ff11, the game just needs some time to develop with its players.

Yeah the graphics are horribly optimized, I had to upgrade my graphics card in a brand new alienware just to run it, and even then you have to turn some things off cause of screen clipping, but that too is being fixed in 2.0

Awww, the races are staying the same? That's something that should be one of the top ten things they change.

Yeah, same races...ish. There are more options to choose from, though.
Like regional differences even among the same races. i.e.-Highlander Hyur and Midlander Hyur.

Ugh. I wish I could play! Trying to get my finances right so that I can continue where my trial left off from.

Still, if they look almost the same, I personally would get pretty bored. They mind as well just implement the new game play system to XI instead of making anything new. Chocobos, moogles, summons, and Cids can consistent, but c'mon, when it's a new Final Fantasy, you'd expect totally new things. Not similarities.
