In Japanese I really only liked the voices of the villains. I liked Cecil's Jap voice and Bartz's was ok but that's all I liked.

The script isn't that bad >< English voices just don't do it any justice

And yes, it is Cosmos. That's how Amano draws her

Actually, I think that's an illustration from Yousei, which came out in '96, apparently.

Here's a video that has all the characters fighting and saying their silly little spells and battle sayings in English~
[x]

Of course, you can't really hear what they're saying because of that silly song that's playing. The only ones I could really make out were Empy, Zidane, and Tidus, and we already knew how they sounded. But at least it'll maybe give you a tiiiiiiny idea of how the rest of them will sound. ...maybe. .__.

I could make out Terra's. Not too pleased so far. Didn't get a good earfull of Kefka's. Seems ok. All I heard from Golbez was groans, Cecil was too quiet compared to the song, which is actually a good sign given his voice actor. Maybe the voice actor won't do his generic voice with Cecil

Cecil - Sounds ok enough. I hope his acting is better than his one liner in the trailer.
Golbez - The grunts were nice, let's hear the dialogue now.

Bartz - Sounds pretty good. I thought It'd be a smidge higher, but I do like it.
Exdeath - Again, the grunts were nice, it sounds like a voice I'll like.

Terra - I'd rather she have a bit more mature of a voice. I understand she's only 18, but she doesn't act it, so I don't feel she should sound it.
Kefka - I don't think I like Kefka's, but it's difficult to tell. Who the ******** thought it was a good idea to play this damn song?

Cloud - It's Cloud, what did you expect?
Sephiroth - Ditto.

Squall - He sounds slightly different than he did in KH2, but again, it's hard to tell. I like it regardless.
Ultimecia - She sounds ok enough, but I'll have to hear more. She may be another one that I wish had a more mature voice.

Zidane - It's not as bad as his one line from the trailer, but I do still with had a voice that was just a couple years younger. He's sixteen, he looks twelve, and he sounds twenty. Puberty was not kind to him.
Kuja - Again, not as bad from his line in the trailer, I may actually be ok with his voice, but we'll see.

Tidus - What did you expect? Let's hope his acting has improved since FFX.
Jecht - I'm assuming it's the same voice actor, but I couldn't hear him at all.

Shantotto - I actually really like the snippet that I could hear.
Gabranth - I couldn't hear a single word or grunt, so I'll have to assume it's the same guy.
really, i feel sorry for whoever English voice actor has to play Kefka.

if he tries to replicate the awesome craziness of Shigeru Chiba, it's probably going to come out sounding stupid.

unless it's, like, Heath Ledger.

Heath Ledger would never be Kefka. He just wouldn't fit the part well.

I watched it again and yes, I see hope in Kuja's voice, still wished Zidane's was a bit higher.
Jecht has the same voice actor, so does Golbez. I'm still wondering about ol' Golby since his voice in FFIV DS was usually full of echo and he only had three or so different tones in his voice

The guy you're talking to has probably never seen any Batman-related media prior to The Dark Knight and thinks that Heath Ledger's performance is the way the Joker really is. If I were that misinformed and ignorant, I would see parallels between the Joker and Kefka Palazzo, but only because they both have vaguely clown-like images and both reinforce the notion that it is foolish to place any faith in "the way things are."

I couldn't have worded it better myself.

Sorry if I sound like an uppity b***h. That really isn't me. I just really don't like the senseless posthumous cocksucking that goes on whenever a celebrity dies.
Fun fact: Three weeks ago, ninety-eight percent of Gaia hated Michael Jackson.

oh dear. i'm sorry if i offended you, i really am. i just think the voice Heath Ledger uses in The Dark Knight would be quite suitable for Kefka, since it often goes from high pitched to scarily deep. ( edit: ) while it is true that i was initially led to this thought because of the villains both being 'clowns', i can't think of any voice more fitting for Kefka at this time.

and i have seen Batman related media prior to The Dark Knight. i watched the cartoon as a kid, and most of the Batman movies - but i still think Heath Ledger played a better Joker than both Mark Hamill and Jack Nicholson, and that has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that he died (i still dislike Michael Jackson, after all.)

Ledger was a terrible comic book Joker. As the kind of Joker he was going for, he was good (he might not be though since he's the only one to play a Joker like that). If ANY of the Joker actors were Kefka, it would be Mark Hamill, and even then I wouldn't want that. I just probably won't be satisfied with Kefka's voice so I'm going to remain pessimistic. That way I won't be disappointed.

Heath Ledger wasn't the classic Joker. It's a shame that so many people believe that to be the "real" way the joker should be because he isn't. The role he was trying to accomplished was performed incredible, and I'd be lying if I said he's not my favorite version of the Joker. However, a good portion of the stuff in Nolan's movies aren't anything like the old comic books and cartoons because he was aiming for "realism". His version of the Joker is just different in order to maintain the idea of realism. I mean, look at Ra's al Ghul. He's NOTHING like the comic book version. Even Batman himself is way different. Look at the freakin Batmobile.

(why is it that Heath Ledger's Joker seems to be brought up in so many Kefka discussions?)
User Image

Realism doesn't go so well with Batman. It can only be SO realistic. Modernized is the word I tend to use instead. If the premis of Batman was just in this day, age, and society, then there's the Nolan movies.
And it gets brought up because of clown resemblence, we already adressed that. Next they'll be saying Ronald McDonald or the actor who did Pennywise the Clown should to Kefka mad

Anywho, off of the Batman discussion, sorry for getting off topic

Cloud's voice is really quite lame. i don't get why they use that voice actor.

also: "Do I feel sorry for you" doesn't make sense because he doesn't emphasise the "you". confused

anyway, i've been playing the Japanese Dissidia quite a bit lately - but i feel alienated from it due to my lack of understanding of the text, so i'm starting to feel tempted to purchase the english game.
