For the record, I was right. To anyone who was certain that Firion was changed to Frioniel, check the official site. Terra, Kefka, Golbez, and Bartz will all inevitably be the same once announced.

Oh shi-. It's Firion. This is quite a surprise. I didn't even notice it.
i thought it was assumed by everyone that his name would be changed to Firion - especially since that's his name on the very recent PSP remake of FFII.
Why is it a surprise that it is "Firion"? confused

Because I didn't play the remake on the PSP.

Stop taking away my thoughts on surprises and such... and stuff. D:<

(I also wanted to bump the thread)
This is only based on speculations.... By me only.
I think the game is due for release on July 12, 2009.
In japan it was released on December 18.
What do these random dates have to do with each other you may ask?

Because December 18, 1987 was the release date for Final Fantasy.
And 21 years later they release This game on the same exact date.

But who knows, that would be a clever release date for the U.S .

But I dont know what date their going to use for other countries....
(googles final fantasy)
November 29 For Australia.
December 3 For Europe.
You said fall.
I honestly don't trust SquareUS Localization Team to be as into this project as the original team will be. More than likely they're going to be a group of people who are new to the company who don't care about this game except to get it translated and put out as soon as possible so they can get their paycheck. This isn't their baby, why should they care?

So all the little extra FF US version details will probably not get put in (Such as renaming Holy Pearl, Name Spellings, etc), in favor of direct textbook translations.

I wish Square had In-House localization crews like other companies do, such as Konami (I think?)
I would play it if it were released on the PS2 or at least PS3.

You think their going "OK lets get this done so we can get money, quick quick quick!"
Who knows but im pretty sure they will change the names to fit the U.S version of the games.

@Human Cactuar. My personal opinion as of why its not on PS2 is because that's basically a dead console now. It had a good eight years... Wait was it eight?
and for PS3 I don't know.
I would joygasm if they made it for the PS3. The main reason why I would want that is so I could stare at my favorite characters with the PS3 graphics...The "regular' parts would look like the CGI parts from the PSP game.

I wouldn't get my hopes up. The PS3 wouldn't automatically improve the quality. It might move a little faster, and look a little crisper. But what makes a game realistic is its polygon count, something that is set within the game's programing itself, and isn;t controlled by the console its played on.

Whats more, porting has been known to cause problems. Even just playing Playstation 2 games on the PS3 often results in missing polygons, skipping, glitches, and other problems. Likewise, porting from PSP to the PS2 causes similar problems, as I've witnessed with a brand new copy of Silent Hill Origins.

So one can only assume that attempting to port a PSP game to a system to the PS3 would be even harder. In the end, the quality would suffer, and sales would be poor after the initial release, and people found out that it was too glitchy to play. The best you can hope for is MAYBE a PS2 release...In Japanese.

A note on that... You're missing one big detail. Most developers push tasks such as porting to other consoles to other game companies. The Orange Box was ported to the PS3 by EA... not Valve, and as a result, suffered in a whole slew of glitches compared to the Xbox360 version. You're right in saying that ported games aren't always good, but there's a distinction in knowing who is doing the porting and who is publishing it. [insert EA sucks a** here]

Square Enix works on their own ports... meaning they know the code and how to make things work on many platforms (Read: Practically glitch-free). It is much better than shipping off game assets to an independent company and hope they'll be able to stitch things together in a coherent fashion on a different console.
...yeah...and no chance of them starting from scratch for a PS3 version. crying

A PS2 version would be pointless. It would look just like the PSP version.

I'd love a PS2 version because a) I don't have a PSP, and B) I'd much rather play that on the big screen than on a handheld.
i reckon Dissidia has been successful enough for them to bring it to the PS3, whatever it might take. it would be the most logical way to bring the game forward, and would allow for a lot more characters to be added (since that's what everyone wants, even Nomura).
