Wow. Dissidia's getting a C from Japan's CERO system. Thats pretty much the same level as ESRB's Mature rating. I'm not sure a Final Fantasy game has ever received a rating higher than 16+

o_o;;; There's either a mistake, or Nomura wasn't f'in kidding when he said we'd hardly seen anything yet.

Now that is surprising, maybe we're about to see a darker installment in our favorite series?

Uh... C on the CERO system is a Teen rating for ESRB, not an Mature rating.
I can't see it getting higher than T unless there's FOUNTAINS OF BLOOD and disintegrating clothing with every hit. xD

Really? My mistake. I misheard then. Several people were talking about it like that on another board.

A new famitsu scan should be out in a few hours, if current trends are to be followed. We've gotten an update nearly every Wednesday

Niiiice.

'IFRIT!!

Lower left, first image, of course the summons and descriptions about their use.

Exodus, Gilgamesh, Sildra, Choco/Mog, Diablos, TONBERRY heart , Knights of Round, Bahamut, Brothers, Maduin/Madeen... and more.

Screenshots feature:
Carbuncle (the blue fox thing; Ruby no Hikari / Ruby Light - with its normal reflective effect!
'Ifrit (Jigoku no Kaen / Hell's Flame / Hellfire)
Cactuar (Hari Semban / Thousand Needles)

SeeD Squall is confirmed as an Another Costume for Squall.

Levelling up during a fight is possible.

---

Second image:

Lower left, Bartz is confirmed to be a MIME (key word: monomane,) that the Flare he was using came from Onion Knight... and also shows him doing Renzokuken... and that he is very customisable. (I see the word "Jump" in katakana - perhaps the Dragoon jump?)

Right side: Ultimecia's EX is *definitely* the Griever junction.

----

Third image: We can stop calling him Bartz now. It's definitely Butz. 3nodding It's a focus on FF5 and its characters.
^ but that's still the Japanese version...we still don't know if he will be called Butz or Bartz in the english version.

I didn't play FFV for the GBA, but was he still called Bartz or did they change it to Butz?

It was Bartz in the PSX and GBA versions, if I recall; but, the kana better fits Butz. The reason lies in how it's written. The key kana are ba and tsu... but what lies between them is a subscript tsu (battsu) rather than a vowel lengthener (baatsu.)

バッツ

バーツ

Written in the first manner, the shorter A stands in for English short A, as well as English short U. Hence, Butts / Butz. This is what is seen in Final Fantasy V.

In the second manner, the A is longer - /a:/ stands in for /ar/ (as seen in, say, Starmie's name スターミー from Pokemon, or Squall's surname Leonhart, レオンハート) or /@r/ (as seen in the Japanese name of the Pokemon Flareon: Booster, ブースター) due to the orthographic limitation of the Japanese syllabary. That, then, would be Bartz.

He's always been Bartz. He was originally Butz but then they realized how ridiculous it sounded in English and altered it to be Bartz. Just because it says Butz in a Japanese magazine doesn't mean anything. Otherwise we may as well continue to say Frioniel, Leonhart, and Balflear, among others.

It's going to be Bartz. Just like it's going to be Firion. There's really no question about it.

Yep. I had sit for a while and think what name I need to type in the character summary section and went with Bartz because that's how it was in the GBA and PSX versions.

I also have an annoyance that some characters don't have a last name. I could understand it for some (Ultimecia, Exdeath) but I keep feeling that Golbez, Tidus and Jecht needs a last name.

Well Golbez's last name is technically Harvey because of his relation to Cecil, he just never goes by it. Unless you call him by his full proper name that is.

But I agree, I don't like how they had last names for FF4-9 and then just stopped. Since then we've had Kimahri Ronso (which isn't even a last name), Ashelia B'nargan Dalmasca, Ffamran Mid Bunansa, and Basch Fon Ronsenburg. And I'm only speaking of main party characters of course, FFXII actually has quite a few last (as well as middle) names.

Well his birthname is Theodor, so I understand when he switches to Golbez the last name thing drops. Still weird, but I guess could accept that. (lol@People thinking Ronso is a last name)

They need to look at how Japan does its rating system. Look at FFXII. It has an A rating (practically an E for the ESRB). Then the International version came out, and got a B rating. What changed? A Penelo kidnapping scene we saw that the Japanese didn't.

Small things bump up the ratings.

Good knowing it will be Butz. I always knew it to that name before Bartz and the PSX remake. Makes me even happier. I hated the name "Bartz"
