I never was into Dissidia. I watched the trailer and some fight demos, and SE won me over. Damn this game looks sweet. eek . Why have they not revealed the protagonist for VII? Are they trying to shock us by not having Cloud? And have they started on Americanizing the voices?

It's simple. SE knows that the world obsesses over Cloud and Sephiroth, and that is probably the main reason why a lot of kids will play it. So they reveal one of them in the first trailer to grab the people's eye (Sephiroth is more eye grabbing with the walls of fire), and they're likely saving the other for the last reveal because so many people will want to follow the information until he is revealed.

Personally, I'm just dying to see Terra and Bartz (and whether or not they'll be the actual picks). Although now that I think about it, I actually am pretty excited about Cloud too, because he probably won't be all rough, tough, and buff like in AC. Cloud is actually pretty scrawny in the original FFVII, so I'm wondering if he'll be at all like Squall.

Though, you still have the side of the arguement of the people who really don't like cloud....granted he is the most likely selection, but honestly I (and I know I have said this before) think that they will pick someone else. You will have angry fans if they do, but you will also have happy fans also

And I stand by my statement that it is more likely that they will choose celes over terra (terra really didn't have much of a personality where celes did, and also both had just as much of a connection...if not celes more...to kefka)

well that is my two golds worth.

actually i think cloud looked too feminine in AC. i always assumed he'd be a bit more manly

I have yet to see any reasonable argument as to why the cannon original hero of VII would not be the first pick to represent HIS own game.

Crisis Core belongs to Zack. Dirge of Cerberus belonged to Vincent. But FFVII is Cloud Strife's story, and denying him his place is the same as denying Firion, Cecil, Squall, and Zidane their rightful places as representatives of their stories. Even the Onion Knights are given their proper representation. Whether he's over used or not isn't the point. This is a homage to the history of FF. It would be ridiculous to favor a SUPPORTING character in VII's slot. And thats all Zack ever was for the entirety of the original game, a supporting character, and another notch on Cloud's belt of psych-trauma.

Besides. Genesis is Zack's opposite. I would have nobody else face to face with Zack than him. Their fates are more closely bound, and their morality are better compliments.

To be honest, I think the only reason some believe Cloud won't be chosen, is because they don't want him to be chosen.

You guys argue over the most silly things.

So without any proper logic, those posts would best be ignored, imo.

my arguement isn't because I don't want to see him. I just think that they might pull something out of the bag. I do see the point that tongberry king is saying (though I have to argue about the whole zach vs genesis thing after playing cc, Sephiroth is more Genesis' oppisite - G being chosen by the goddess herself to defend the earth...or at least as she sees it being defended, and S being a herald of the great calamity come to destroy. I mean even down to the fact that they have opposite cells in them, making them compatible for fixing genesis' problem. Zach is just stuck in the middle....kinda like Angeal was before half way through the game) My arguement comes from the fact that the actual team is getting tired of cloud. Also I am looking at points of other fan favorites that people will very much be angry if they don't get in there....Yeh, cloud was the main character...but he wasn't as liked as alot of people would like to think. I mean, if you look, Aerith even has her own manga that happens AFTER ffvii....cloud never was given such a thing.

I have logic behind my arguement....and that is why I think that they won't choose him, not because I don't like cloud (though, I don't)

My arguement will stand, until they say who is the hero for VII (it'd be funny if it ended up being Sephy as the heroe....but that is definetly only a 1% chance)

Now you're just grasping for anything you can get your hands on. Nothing in here provides a strong basis for excluding Cloud in the hero roster for Dissidia.

It's like saying that Kobe Bryant shouldn't be allowed to play basketball and earn an MVP because the Lakers are tired of him and that Shaquille O'Neal has his own video game and stars in movies after his career. There's no logic behind it at all.

Since when has Square EVER looked at fan wishes as opposed to its own creative interests?

If this were so we would
A. Have only one FFXIII on the PS3, and out already.
B. An FFVII as a remake for the PS3
C. Dissidia would be a PS3 game with every character possible.

Call me crazy, but SquareEnix's staff are well known for putting their own ideas ahead of what fans actually demand. They have the insurance that their fanbase will buy anything they produce with the prejudice that as long as its a Square Product, they have a high chance of liking it.

If Dissidia were a popularity contest, Jecht would not be in it, Seifer would have trumpt Ultimecia's slot, and II and V would have been shoved asside for XI and XII's slot.

When will people learn?

See, that is the point I am making, SE has been known to put their interests first, but that is what makes them them.

I don't know how many of you remember when FF3 (FF6) was out on the SNES and how angry fans got when they switched to PSX, or when we got the crappy version of Mystic Quest because they felt like we would like it more. Or even when they decided that they weren't happy enough with FF3 japanese (the actual FF3) and it wasn't released until recently after a huge remake...I played the original, it was horrid.

The point is, they are artist..creators..whatever word you want to use, they will always put their emotions before that of the person that is crying out for something...say like cloud.

There is no basis that they won't put him in...but really the only basis that they will is the fans...which square has ignored in the past.

And the argument with it being that Cloud is the main character....one retort...Jecht (which I am actually happy with)...another retort....Golbez (why not Zerumos)

And if it was a popularity contest then it would be Seifer instead of Ultimecia as the TonberryKing said.

Betcha though that it will be Cid...that is only my guess.... I am no more interested in who the FFVII character is than I am about the FF3 character, I liked both about equally, so really I am not going to get much play time out of either character from either game. It's all a moot point.

But for the sake of arguement, I could easily see Genesis with his storyline more than I could see cloud....why would the goddess choose cloud, when from the same game, she has already chosen an avatar?

That is my arguement.

However you want to look at it, we still won't know until the october game show (and I garentee that is when all will be revealed). I am just saying, just wait and see, it's not such a sure bet as everyone thinks

true, but that isn't to say the lakers may not find a reason too just because. It's called Creating a reason....hmmm, they could say that he is a bad role model, so they won't give it to him

Same is true about cloud, they could say that he is boring, so they don't want to use him, or that they have done all they want with him....ect. ect. ect. ect.

Again, reference....Jecht

"Creating a reason" doesn't equate to research and facts, you know, the basics of debating or arguing and making a point (something that you're missing).

I'm arguing about your potentially flawed thought process, not about whether Cloud or any other character will be chosen.

Alright. Lets try by your logic.

Lets look at who is actually making this game, and what they've done so far.
Yousuke Shiokawa. Can you tell me anything about him? I certainly can't say much, because he's FLIPPING NEW. He's only been with Square Enix since Kingdom Hearts, and has only gained a high position in KH2 when the battle system became more plot integrated. Now he is the director of Dissidia, which means his ideas are his call. SquareEnix has been very good about allowing directors of each game to do what they like, on good faith of previous work.

New staff means new motivations. And so we can only judge based on what's already been shown so far. And so far Dissidia has been faithful to original source to an almost ludicrous extent. Small details ranging from alternative sprite-based costumes, colorschemes and aspects of the arenas are amazingly faithful, and the score's produced are extremely well done, and none of them are new. Tetsuya Nomura has been given a tight leash, as non of his tendancies to Over-Zippper/Belt characters has arisen in any of the plots. The characters themselves are acting very much true to their former selves.

With all this, I think its safe to say Dissidia is conservatively keeping to its source material. To come out of the left wing, and do something like using a MODERNLY elevated character in place of Cloud's original position is completly flying in the face of this formula.

So don't tell me "The staff is getting bored with Cloud.". If the makers of Dissidia's actions are to be anything to judge on, everything that Nomura has recently done with FFVII will be ignored, in favor of the original version of Cloud, a notably different character from what he's become in Kingdom Hearts and the FFVII Compilation.

as I said earlier...I wasn't trying to argue a point, I just have a feeling that they won't, but that is just me...I keep on saying MOOT POINT. We have no control, and nothing that we say here will make a difference.
