No point getting into 11 now. It doesn't have much support anymore since they're focusing on 14, and the community has dwindled to just the majorly dedicated. They're all a close-knit community too.

Since 14 is getting a bunch of its improvements now, just wait for 14.

yeah, i kinda figured 11 would start to die. itll probably dwindle until its closed. kind of a flaw to have made an mmorpg a number installment, imo, cause itll always get replaced..

thanks for the advice!

It's sad, because I was playing 11 for 4 years, and decided to quit, because where a camaraderie once was, a certain competitiveness turned up in its place. No one wants to do anything that's not worth their time. 14 is definitely better to do at this point. I'm on Mysidia.

And no, it was not a mistake. XI is one of the biggest MMOs in the world, and remained so for 9 years. It had a steady player-base and a great storyline. Not many MMOs have that.

i suppose. i got the free trial of 11 to try it out, but its saying my square enix password is wrong, and ive changed and checked it 3 times now, so nothing is happening. guess im waiting till 14. for now im just as content playing ff9. mrgreen
Honestly, both may be in a bit of a rough spot right now. While I haven't been paying too close attention to all the behind the scene numbers, from what I hear the FFXI population has died down, but FFXIV has also gotten off to a very rough start and many have abandoned hope for the game. It is worth noting that SE is still very dedicated towards trying their best to make FFXIV succeed. FFXI has also seen it's share of updates as well, but how players progress in FFXI has changed drastically over the recent year. I feel like it would be harder for new players to really capture the full experience the way it was meant to be experienced prior to recent updates. It's mostly a rush to the new endgame and years of old content can be easily ignored, meaning missing out on lots of story. The older content could still be done, but it would likely have little to no challenge and would be finished almost purely for the story and nothing else.

So as a new player just starting out I imagine going with FFXIV would be more enjoyable and rewarding. Not to say that FFXI is bad, but I just feel like it would be less newby friendly in certain areas and may fall short when it comes to enjoying the experience.

XI was never newbie friendly!
x3

I remember when I started playing.. Being completely lost.
Thank god for ffxiclopedia lol
If FFXIV's rehaul makes it playable when 2.0 comes out, then think about waiting.

If you want something right now, then go ahead and play XI. I wouldn't try XIV until Version 2.0 comes out later this year, and even then I'd wait to hear if its at all worth it. From what I've heard, 1.0 was pretty damn awful.
Gameplay in FF11 is super dependent on cooperation. It may be easier now then it used to be to find parties, due to the population drop out. I played FF11 when it first came out and people were already impatient with beginners. I can only imagine FF14, supposedly being more balanced with party dependency, and just being a newer audience, will be more fun and welcoming.
I suggest waiting for FFXIV. I didn't like XI as much. XI wasn't as "newbie" friendly to me. It was also pretty hard to solo in my experience.
Actually, if you start playing XIV and hit level 30 before the PS3 version comes out, you'll get a Goobbue mount. You will be unable to get this mount after the PS3 release I believe.

To be honest, though, I prefer the chocobos.
The Goobbues aren't that special or anything.

I hate how XIV doesn't have Blue Magic... but otherwise I think its a good game. I just really really wish It had Blue Magic... Blue Magic is the only thing that got me to play Final fantasy XI again after I quite before blue Mage is my favorite class ever created in final fantasy. I just like the idea of learning skills from your enemies and using it against them.
I just really hate it how Square just is kind of like now Blue Magic? whats that? in alot of the games they are making. As if trying to ignore they ever made it. I mean in a MMO is it too much to include things that please ever fan when it comes to classes They include every kind of magic except Blue.... Twice! Originally they weren't even plaining to include a Blue Mage in FFXI until fans asked for it. FFXII Blue magic was limited to 2 moves that you never actually learned from enemies.

FFXIII again... blue magic is just ignored and not put in the game. Why are they ignoring it so much? The last game to have Blue Magic in the series was the After Years.

It can't really be that complicated to insert coding for someone to learn abilities from monsters they encounter and beat.

FFXIV is correcting alot of things in it but Square is still just not listening to its fans they don't know what they want and alot of the things that fans do want don't really need alot of big fixes they are just tiny things and for that they just feel like they can profit off of them by taking advantage of that. The original staff that made FFXIV probably aren't even to blame for the problems in the game its mostly due to the rushed schedule that the developers were put under. The way they had people sample the game at conventions before it came out was just poorly handled as well, I think alot of people knew it wasn't ready for release and the upper staff didn't care until they realized "s**t we aren't going to make money on this"

That said I've played the game and despite my complaints I like ffxiv alot. I just really wish it had a Blue mage kind of class.
I played XI for ten years.. I loved it when I first started.. up until the WoTG expansion.. but abbysea killed it for me.
as for 14, I didnt care for it. I found it hard to find a party for anything.. my healer never got a single party, and a lot of the players refused to help a newbie out..
I was rather depressed by it..
Honestly if you want a good mmo to play.. I would Choose Tera Online. it is comming out on May 1st. And as a current beta player who just got to do a server stress test.. It's beautiful, and offers a lot of new things.
The only thing about tera that I dont like, is that you are forever locked to one job unless you make a new character to play on..
The good thing about that is.. You dont have to pay to add a second, third, ect toon like you would on FFXI and FFXIV.
Plus Square-enix has garbage for customer support..
I find that tera's staff responds quickly and they are very nice, not to mention they have a sense of humor which you wont find in square-enix support.
just my honest oppinion.
