My top 5 (Because naming just one is too inaccurate):

1. Street Fighter III: Third Strike (Now an Xbox Live/PSN Arcade game called "SFIII: Online Edition" ). Because the game itself at a high level actually takes a s**t-ton of skill to play well.

2. Super Street Fighter II Turbo. It's where Fighting games all began for me. I still remember rushing to the arcades as a kid with my 50 pence pieces to play the crap out of that game.

3. Tekken 4. The best of all the Tekken games, as well as one of the most balanced.

4. Super Street Fighter 4 AE 2012 (Yes, that exact version). It's really well balanced and the game has some pretty nifty mechanics that make it very enjoyable for me.

5. Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. Holy moly this game is just tons of fun. Though, I'd never take it seriously like I do SFIII or Tekken 6 though.

I think in order probably
1. C.v.S.2 (1 character could be used in so many different ways)
2. Alpha 3 (the artwork, the characters, the combo potential, the footsies, this was my game back in the day)
3. SSF4 AE 2012 (Combos, Footsies, and the Flashy Ultras SF4 has come along way through thick and thin and I love it for what it's become)
4. Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution (This game was ridiculous, if you wanted balance in a fighting game along with fun this was it. I cannot wait for them to release Final Showdown for VF5)
5. Tech Romancer (one of the oddest uniquest fighting games I've ever owned, at first glance you might think it's just a fun party fighter, but it secretly has a craaaazy amount of skill potential in it. Item cancel combos, stance cancels, amazing projectile battles, and overall minus the exception of one character the game in my opinion is pretty balanced.

Honorable mentions haha M.v.C.2 and Ultimate 3. Rival Schools/Project Justice. GGX2#Reload, BlazBlue. and SF3 third Strike of course.

I cannot wait for SFxT, and I'm loving SCV right now.

Guilty Gear is my fav fighting game.
All of the others seemed too slow for me (this was before MvC3 and MK9, mind you).
I can't peg the numerous minor reasons why Guilty Gear is my fav. It just rubs me the right way 3nodding

Oh, also M.U.G.E.N. but its so hard finding other people to beat down.

My favorite fighting games are tekken and street fighter biggrin
I've played so many. It's easier for me to list the ones I don't like: Mortal Kombat and Dead or Alive. Mortal Kombat feels kind of stiff to me, and Dead or Alive. . . I can't really explain what I don't like about it, since in theory it has a strong engine at it's base. It just doesn't feel balanced. And also licensed fighting games. I just don't like licensed games.

Of the Soul series, my least favorite was SC IV. Of the King of Fighter series. . . I honestly don't know which one. There were a couple that were off, but I can't remember which ones. There was only one Street Fighter I didn't like, but I can't for the life of me remember the title. It was a 3D one that felt awkward in the same way that Toshiden felt awkward (though I love Toshinden because of the nostalgia factor).

The strangest fighter I've ever played was Unholy War. I liked that game, but it was so weird. I can't even really explain it.
Can't say I'm into fighting games anymore, but I feel that Weaponlord and Virtua Fighter are exceptions to play (perhaps Star Gladiator, because I somewhat liked Star Wars).

Weaponlord was my answer to Samurai Showdown and every 2d fighting game. It isn't to say that they were bad, but I wasn't drawn to most of the character's designs, moves, and the gameplay from them were like pieces missing to a puzzle. I rarely gave credit to borrowed ideas for what Visual Concepts did, but this was a first, because they have made the complete 2d fighting game for me due to the most systems added, the most special moves, the character models were welcome, and some brave innovation on the 2d side.

Virtua Fighter was liked for the gameplay and it was probably the first game to me where I liked all the character models surprisingly, despite how simple they looked.
