Why is Street Fighter II so %@&!#*$ HARD?!

I know there's a Street Fighter sticky, but I'd be lucky if two people said anything about my post before the subject changed...

Here's my deal: I've been playing Street Fighter since SFII on the Genesis. My favorites are SFIII: Third Strike and SF Alpha 3.

Now, I'm eagerly awaiting SFIV and everything I've seen and read leads me to believe SFIV will play more like SFII than SFIII. So, I've been playing Hyper SFII: The Anniversary Edition. I know it's the most popular Street Fighter, but I suck nuts at it. I can't beat it. Not even on medium. I play Alpha 3 and III:Third Strike with the difficulty maxed out. Sure, it takes me a while, but I beat them. SFII? Forget it. I can't remember ever beating it. And I don't even know why...

My question is this: wtf is so different about SFII and how can I adapt?

EDIT---------------
That Hyper SFII: Anniversary Edition is on PS2

Exploiting the cpu for sf2 isn't that hard, especially on normal difficulty. In sf2, you're dealing with chess. You need to learn a distance game and mind games. The cpu comes to you most of the time anyway, so take advantage of it, by knowing the cpu. Just get better by paying attention to their patterns closely. It shouldn't be that hard, if not at all for you.

out of any of the stickys, the SF one would probably answer as most of us in there are serious and willing to help people out...unlike other unnamed stickys on this side of the forums.

To me, Street Fighter 2 is meh hard for me. I mean, it can get challenging when fighting certain CPU, but you've just got to remember this:

Keep your eye on your opponent and try to predict their every move. You can predict what they'll do by how close they are to you, what character you're fighting, and paying a little attention to what the AI tends to spam you with.

ALWAYS keep your eye on your opponent, and have an idea where you're standing, too XDD. [nonseriousness]Especially for characters like Chun-Li. You don't want her foot think thighs in your crotch.[/nonseriousness]

You just gotta get lucky, almost every version of sf2 has cpus knowing exactly how to counter-attack your every move....

I believe the second one was really hard for people who haven't ever played the first Street Fighter.

But that makes it cool, right? I still like it.

The CPU cheats.

You forgot to mention what version you are playing. If you are finding it hard by any chance are you playing in on XBLA? The Xbox 360 version is really hard. It is based on the Arcade version (As it is basically a port) and for some reason the A.I is really screwed up in that game. If you play on higher difficulty it's actually easier if you know what your doing because the computer will do real moves and planned strategies compared to just being completely random on the easier settings.

If you are not playing on 360 then I have no idea why you are finding it hard. As it shouldn't be any harder then other SF games you've played.

not to be an a** but he said SFII, which only exists on the SNES, just thought I'd point that out. and on the hardest setting it is really hard because allot of the combos are really hard to do and unless you have played the game allot and know all the combos it's pretty much what the people above stated a measurement game where to figure out their moves by their distance from you.

I main Vega on SF2, You don't know how hard it is to fight Ryu cry . Only person I have problems against.

Once you've beaten one SF, it's a matter of time before you beat them all. You say SFII is so hard, but I can't see it. I've been playing SFII for over ten years and now it's no sweat to me even on the hardest difficulty. Like other posters in this thread mentioned, it's all a designed pattern that you have to follow and exploit for your own benefit. Also, know your character and what they can do in each SFII game. Remember, some of the abilities your character may have in Super SFII aren't available in the OG SFII. Also, the hardest bosses in that game is Vega, Sagat and Bison. Balrog is real easy in my opinion.

And Kros, I know what it's like to fight Ryu cpu with Vega on SFII. Flying around like Superman won't help you in that fight. Dodge his fireballs and stick with him. Spam rolling crystals out the a**.

Computer always cheats, ESPECIALLY in Street Fighter.
