Skullgirls!

Doesn't it just look really awesome? I think they have shown stuff on the website! But that game play and explanation of just what they have done is great! It is such fantastic work by those guys!

What do you lot think?
Not sure what to think of it. I don't really know much about the gameplay elements. I'll look into it some more a little latter.

The animation looks smoothe. (if a bit fan-service laden...)

I... personally don't care for it.

I don't enjoy fanservice games though, certianly with that art style. At the same time though as a fighter I don't see it being all that interesting since really it's just the art style that is carrying it. The characters seem very flat personality and design wise, it reminds me of a bunch of gimmiky characters without any really rounded out interesting bits to them. I really doubt that a game like this can really formulate a story that would be interesting for me, so without characters I can get behind I'd have no reason for wanting to play it.

Hrmmm I think that's it. I don't like gimmiky characters, and I don't get any joy from fan service. This game is a huge pass for me.

(Why yes I am one of them odd ones who likes the story in fighting games. A good narrative in any game is required to make at least me invested to want to keep fighting)

Also, I don't care if it was by a Gaia artist. I mean, the art in Bastion was done by a Gaia artist, and I didn't go foaming about it, the artists name means nothin to me XD

You need to watch the videos... and see moves never seen in fighting games before...

And yes, I like story also... but it's there FIRST GAME, what ever these guys are calling themselves, not even sure actually... you expect them to make some Halo-type of game? Yah know, most fighting games have fan service anyway... It's nothing new. Get over that, and you will see they actually have some EPIC moves, all of the characters...

And I think Gaia artists going beyond Gaia is good for them...

I have seen the videos, I have seen many videos of the game.

I still keep my opinion the same about it being gimmiky characters. Swapping out characters and having teams? Been there done that, care to bring something new to the genre?

Thier 'first' game is no excuse, because indie developers have shown that their first games are what sets the tone for the studio and also NEEDS to make money back or else there wont be anymore games by that very same company. No I don't expect a halo type game (good god no, Halo games are rather boring junk to begin with). I refuse to go "oh it's their first game so I should praise and be happy since they're just itty bitty baby companies!" totally not after seeing indi developers come up with amazing gameplay and concepts for their first games (such as Bastion) or as the game that will keep them alive enough to make again (Amnesia Dark Decent ran out of money during game development and the indi company almost had to shut it down. They needed the game to be good enough to make that money they sunk into the game back.)

Being an indie developer with it being their first game doesn't mean they can skimp out on a narritive.

Also, I know fighting games have fanservice, but I enjoy it being equal amounts on both sides. Both female, AND male characters since it will come off less... icky for lack of better words. I can understand they are really reaching for a certain target, which I don't think is a very bright move as the game can come off as really untasteful. Also objectifying ladies. Which is a whole nother story that I could ramble on about forever.

You think the teams thing was the new thing? I meant the fighting moves... and how the nurse has those stat related moves you normally only see in RPG, and no fighter games...

Again, gimmicky. The fact that I didn't even consider it for my post means that I didn't think it was all that amazing. RPG stats and elements? Also not new, their moves to me are still piles and piles of gimmicks. They fight with hats, Oooo ahhhh and they have themes they fight with ooo ahhh.

Really, the only thing that is making it stand out from the rest is the art style, thanks to o_8s really over sexulized dramatic cartoony looks of hour glass figures. Which is very you like it or your hate it with people.
It's not like it's expensive or anything.

If you are a fighting game player, it should be purchased.

Because of it's really low price.

Lol 15 Dollars, A tournament-possible fighting game for 15 dollars is a good deal.

Price is never anything I consider into a game, it doesn't automatically make it any good.

That and the game is already going to have DLC character in the first month alone, and possibly more DLC later on making the price in reality to go up to have a full and complete game. Then again, all games are going that route, but I'd still hold it against a game for releasing characters that should have originally been in the game.

Cheap good games arn't that hard to find really. Nor do I consider it a plus that it's cheap price point.
For myself, the art style is a little catchy, but the game play system is too identical to what was long since out there. In that aspect, it doesn't stand out sadly.

Yes, such as Guilty Gear, Marvel vs series, to name a few. I prefer different things and that's just me.

Well man, I can say that I'm excited for it. Infinite prevention, 360 input so you don't go jumping everywhere if you start pulling circles, the different team sizes, nice characters, some fresh moves the girls can pull off (you can't say stuff like Valentine being able to *revive* KO'd teammates - at the high cost of 5 bars - isn't a fighting game original), access to any move as a tag in barring supers, and of course, the in-depth tutorials that'll really teach those who want to get into fighters in general.

And the already announced DLC characters? Only being pushed back so Reverge Labs, the guys making the game, can get it out by their predicted release date of early 2012, which is technically now. "Why not just push the game back to fit in the two characters that are already announced?" you may ask. 1) a mostly set deadline 2) people want the game now. Push it back after having done so a couple of times already will only lose money for RL.

And another little detail: 1) male characters were intended as DLC, no matter when this came out 2) the characters don't fight with hats. That's only one of them.

Am I trying to win anyone over here? Not really. Heck, oh_8 himself has stated on his DA that he doesn't expect everyone to like Skullgirls. To each their own; opinions; stuff.
It's supposed to play like other games haha, mvc2 and vampire savior are supposedly what it's most similar to.

Anyway, check the signature yo! I'm all about that Peacock

and baby, she's all about me.

Today was a great day, though. So much new info! New character revealed and everything :> for all those who hate fanservice, play with Double!

Coz Double is horrifying and awesome awesome. Peacock holds a special place in my heart but no doubt I'll give the abomination a go
