Chapter 1. The Beach
(RPOV-Renesmee's point of view)
I went to visit Jacob in La Push, my favorite place. Well in actuality, any place was my favorite as long as I was with Jacob. He is my best friend and my favorite person. I've known him ever since I was born and I can't imagine life without him. Just thinking about it made me cringe.
As we walked down the beach, hand in hand, I thought about us. What did we look like to people? I was sure we looked like a couple. We were with each other every moment of every day. That's how I wanted it, and Jacob had no objections to it either. Thinking of us as a couple made me feel giddy. I skipped, twirled and hummed alongside him. Jacob noticed my change in attitude immediately.
"Well, well. That was quite a mood swing, Nessie." he grinned.
What an adorable grin. His teeth were so white against his russet skin they seemed to glow. His beautiful mouth was pulling up at the corners, revealing them. I caught myself staring at his lips, and I'm sure he noticed too. I craned my neck to examine his expression; he was embarrassed.
We continued to walk in silence along the beach. To most people, walking in silence for a prolonged period of time might be awkward. But it was never awkward with Jacob. That's another thing I loved about him.
Every now and then, Jacob would look down at me like he was examining me. I didn't care. As long as he was looking at me, I was perfectly okay with it. More than okay actually, I was exuberant. Being with him made me feel so extraordinary.
Suddenly, Jake gently squeezed my puny hand in his. Was he trying to get my attention? I pretended not to notice and kept skipping happily along the beach. I felt a tugging on my arm. Jacob had planted his feet where he was. I narrowed my eyes at him.
"Jake, is everything okay?" I asked in the most sincere tone I could. I studied his expression. My lips pulled down at the corners. I had never seen this expression in all my four years of existence with him*. He was saddened. Why? What did I do? He was grinning only moments ago. A lump rose in my throat and I held back my tears, but not all were held back.
"Ness, sweetie, please don't cry. You have nothing to cry about," he crooned as he gently caressed my cheek. I blushed. I'm sure he noticed even though I tried hiding it. His hands were massive, yet gentle and very warm as well. His touch seemed to make everything better, but his expression still pained. What was he thinking? This made me anxious.
"There is just something I have been dying to tell you," he explained. I could tell he was struggling. "I should have told you once you were old enough. I can't wait any longer. Now is the best time." he waved his hand to the open air, suggesting we were all alone.
He sat on a rock covered in moss and pulled me onto his lap. I loved it when he did this. He cupped my chin in his hand and turned my face toward his, looking me deep in the eyes. His eyes were so stunning. Dark brown, almost black, yet his gaze didn't terrify me like it should to some normal person. I wasn't even close to being normal.
"Jacob, I don't know what I did, but I'm so sorr-" he placed one finger against my lips to silence me.
I felt comforted at the gesture. Apparently he didn't want me to apologize for anything. I was so confused. I felt the lump rising in my throat again. Jacob cradled me in his arms as he started explaining.
"Ness, honey," he began, sounding unsure of where he was going, "I-I have very strong feelings for you," he explained. I nodded so he could be sure I understood. "But you don't know how much..." he continued sounding almost heartbroken. "Remember imprinting?" he asked, still holding me tight in his warm embrace.
"Yes, Jacob. What does this have to do with anything?" I asked with a demanding tone in my voice. I wanted to know what was happening.
"Just listen, Ness," he demanded. "Ever since I saw you, since the first day you were born... I was in love with you. I am in love with you, Nessie. Madly in love with you," he mused. He tightened his hold on my waist. I was shocked. I wanted to pull away and see his face to make sure he wasn't joking around. He just held on tighter. "Nessie, I'm so sorry if I weirded you out right now, but I wanted you to know. I want you to know the way I feel about you." he choked out the last sentence. Now I was the one holding tighter.
"You've imprinted on me, Jake?" I asked in awe. This time, he pulled away. He studied my expression. My eyes were wide with shock.
"Yes," he whispered in my ear. "I have. Nessie, I love you." he chimed.
"I... don't know what to sa-" he stopped me again, but this time it was with a gentle kiss. A wave of emotion took over my body. Is this what love feels like? I was euphoric. The kiss was over before I could remember how to breathe.

Chapter 2. Truth
(RPOV-Renesmee’s point of view)
“Oh, Nessie,” he said with a surprised tone. His eyes were wide with shock. “I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have done that.” he choked.
I stared back at him with an equally shocked expression. Why was he sorry for kissing me? I wanted him to, but he hadn’t known that. He didn’t do anything wrong. I wanted nothing more than to comfort him at this moment.
“I am so stupid. What was I thinking? Just because it was something I wanted, doesn’t mean you wanted it too.” he mumbled. His hands trembled with anger.
I smiled at what he was saying and knew I shouldn’t. He was getting angry at himself.
He wanted to kiss me… I thought to myself.
My hair acted as a barrier as I tried hiding my pleased expression from him. He continued to insult himself, hands shaking. I found it strangely endearing.
“Jake, you don’t have to be sorry for anything….” I hinted while he was still rambling.
“I’m never going to- wait… you’re not mad at me?” he asked. An obvious burden lifted off his shoulders.
“No. I could never be mad at you for giving me something I wanted too.” I explained. I smiled and reached for his hand, intertwining my fingers with his. He wasn’t mad anymore.
The corners of his mouth twitched as he tried to hide a grin unsuccessfully. I caught myself staring at his mouth again and looked away quickly, blushing.
“You wanted me to kiss you?” he asked happily, an adorable grin stretching across his face.
“Yes,” I admitted sheepishly. I bit my lip and he chuckled. “I was too afraid to tell you how I felt.” I blushed again.
“Nessie," he chided. “You can tell me anything and you know that.”
His eyes sparkled at the truth of what he said.
“I know I can, Jacob,” I sighed with chagrin. “It’s just that I didn’t want you to think badly of me.”
I could tell he was touched that his opinion meant so much to me. Jacob was my best friend, it should matter. He gently squeezed my hand while he spoke and my heart sputtered.
“Ness, honey I could never think badly of you,” he mused. “And you honestly never thought I would feel the same way about you?” he winked and gestured to our entwined fingers.
I didn’t answer. He just held me in his arms as we sit on the same cold, mossy rock, watching the sunset over the Pacific Ocean. I listened to his even breathing. It soothed me.
Were we a couple now? I wasn’t sure, but I held him tighter, not wanting to ever let go, and traced the planes of his muscular chest with my hand. I felt his heartbeat quicken beneath my hand and grinned. Was I to blame? A giggle slipped through my mouth. I was sure he had noticed.
“Did I do that?” I asked with serious curiosity while staring up at his beautiful face. He looked embarrassed again.
“Oh,” he shifted uncomfortably. “You noticed that, huh?” he asked nervously.
“Mhm,” I verified. “But don’t worry; you do that to my heart all the time.” I whispered, tracing his muscles again.
“It only happens every time I see you, every time we touch, every time you look me in the eyes,” he whispered “And every time we kiss,” his eyes sparkled at the sentence. “That’s the truth, Nessie.” he admitted while staring deep into my eyes, inducing the sensation.
“See?” he asked playfully while his heart continued to pound.
He was right, how had I never noticed the way he felt about me before? It was obvious now; he was really in love with me.
I stared at him greedily for a few more moments while taking in and appreciating his flawless features.
“I never doubted you,” I chimed. “But do you want to know the truth?” I asked dubiously.
His expression looked confused for a moment, unsure of what I was going to say. I flashed a grin to comfort him.
“Of course,” he said, anxiously waiting for me to say the four words that danced around my mouth.
I made sure my hand was in his and my eyes were locked with his. I could feel the acceleration of his heart.
“I love you too.” I finally admitted.
His heart started pounding.

Chapter 3. The Ride Home
(JPOV-Jacob’s point of view)
It was getting late; I had to get Nessie home. I really didn't want her to leave, but I had to bring her back if I wanted to keep Bella and Edward’s trust. I’ve had their trust since the day that “royal” vampire coven planned to take Nessie away. I was her “godfather,” so to speak.
Could a boyfriend be a godparent?
Well… they can now.
(RPOV-Renesmee’s point of view)
Jacob drove me home in the Rabbit. I really didn’t want to leave. He comforted me by holding my hand while I rested my head on his broad shoulder. His warmth was making me tired.
Everything was dark. The only noticeable light was coming from the headlights, illuminating the narrow road ahead of us. If it was bright enough to see, I would be marveling at his face again. I never noticed how much I had done that until I actually craved it. I craved Jacob.
Jacob sighed and, although I couldn’t see it, I could feel his gaze on me, making sure I was okay.
“You’re awfully quiet, Ness,” he worried. His tone was concerned.
I hadn’t realized until now; I was bushed.
I could feel myself slipping into unconsciousness and the warmth radiating from Jacob’s body didn’t help that.
“I know…” I said with a yawn while snuggling closer into Jacob.
He chuckled while he freed his hand from my grasp to rub my shoulder, as if he was trying to warm me up.
“Aw,” he crooned. “Get some sleep, sweetie. It’s okay,” he assured me.
“But I-I don’t want to lose any time with you,” I admitted, hardly intelligible.
“Ness, please get some sleep,” he offered. “I don’t want to be the cause of your crankiness in the morning,” he teased.
I giggled lightly and continued to drift asleep.
“Sleep tight, Renesmee,” he whispered and gently kissed my forehead. My skin tingled where he kissed me and sent a shiver down my spine. Jacob noticed and held me tighter, keeping me warm.
I inhaled his scent and locked it in my brain. He smelled of motor oil, the ocean, and fir tree. He had a very ‘nature-y’ smell to him. It was comforting to me, like everything else about him.
Sleep came easily to me now that I allowed myself to. There was nothing wrong with the world when I was with him. I loved him.
I dreamed of him…

Chapter 4 (Part A). Human Charade
(EPOV-Edward's point of view)
I wasn't quite sure what to think about Jacob and Renesmee as an "item." Yes, I tolerate Jacob, but only for my daughter. Now that they are in love, It was only going to get more difficult.
The Cullen's and Ephraim Black made a treaty decades ago. We are supposed to be mortal enemies but now, we're all running around as if nothing had ever happened.
Bella and I waited patiently in our cozy cottage for Renesmee to wake. She had been talking about Jacob in her sleep. It reminded me of someone else I knew...
"So, what exactly happened yesterday?" Bella asked, concerned. Renesmee had been carried to bed by Jacob last night. She was usually an "up all night" sort of girl.
"I'm not entirely sure," I admitted. "All I know is that Jacob told her everything," I murmured, clenching my jaw.
"Everything?" she gasped.
I nodded once as a sound of awakening came from Renesmee's room. I sat rigid, waiting for her to appear.
She trudged out of her room, still dressed in last night's attire.
"Good morning, Renesmee," I greeted solemnly.
She groaned, still groggy. I had never seen her so tired. Must have been a long day.
"G'morning, dad," she replied, yawning.
I wasn't sure how to start the conversation, but I had to eventually. She would never tell unless someone forced it out of her.
"How was your night, sweetie?" asked Bella, as if she was the one who could read minds. She grinned and I gave her a half smile in return. The one that she loved so much.
"It was fine," she replied hastily. Nope... she wasn't going to tell.
"What did you two do?" I asked.
She looked confused. We had never bombarded her with any of these questions before. We trusted her.
"The usual," she replied. "Walked around the beach, went for a drive. Y'know, normal teenage stuff," she emphasized the word 'normal' for a reason.
Teenage stuff? Hmm. I could see now I was going to have to be the 'mean parent' and force this out of her. Why do teenagers have to be so difficult?
"Renesmee," I began. "I know what Jacob told you yesterday."
And that was all I could say before before I recognized the expression on her face...
Fear.
