Heh. I wrote a chapter that's 30 pages long and the one following it is going to be longer (I am only about 1/3 of the way done with it and its 18 pages...). Should I split the chapters into two so readers don't get insanely bored?

There will always be those who like to read long chapters and those who prefer short chapters, so just write them however you feel is right. Chapters should be as long as they have to be, no more, no less.

True. But I guess I'll decide when I go to upload it on FanFic. I think that I may, because there are some spots that should be split (since its like a boring part. Lol). I don't know yet.

I think it probably depends on how much you like the story. For my favorite stories, I love when there is a looong chapter posted, or at least a really good short chapter. XD

I just write until it seems right to end, though I try to make sure that each chapter is more that 2k words. I don't force myself to write more than feels right and if I'm running way to close to my deadline and I'm in the middle of a section, I cut it out and try to put it in the next chapter. The longest chapter I've witten has been 21 pages long and 9000 words.

Yes you should write it until you feel the natural break in the story, however when it comes to what people are willing to read... generally any story over 10,000 words total will have far LESS readers then those with under 10k words and as the amount of words the story has (in total) goes up the amount of readers goes down.

Something I don't understand lol since people can go on about reading all of these HP or whatever books in one night yet they can't read a long story online? However that's all based on comfort and the computer is not the most comfortable place to read something whee So I say: "get a more comfortable chair for your computer dang it!" hehe usually the only way people are going to commit to reading a long story online is by word of mouth (their friend says its good and such) so in the end, just write whatever you want to whatever length you want.

BTW, length in word pages can vary because people use different fonts and sizes, like mine is generally set to size 10 font as opposed to the standard size 12. (I would check my longest chapter but at the moment I don't have Word on my computer hehe I know it was something like 10,500 words though)

I don't think they're talking about the chair when they say it isn't as comfortable, lol. I can get nasty headaches from staring at a computer screen for too long, especially if the pages are too bright, but hey!, no one's forcing them to read everything in one sitting and the copy-paste command is such a good friend... Meh, their loss.

I always have mine in Verdana 11 and in web page view so I know round abouts what it'll look like on ff.net. I also find that it's easier to type longer passages than in print layout view because there's no disruption from page breaks.

Edit: If a chapter's too long to read in a single sitting, I always save it in my tabs; I usually start reading again from the paragraph before I left off

Brief excerpt from the story: Excerpt from Chapter 10: Sinister Decisions

'There was definitely something about Granger that he found appealing, however. That side of herself she did not allow others to see. Like him, she had built a wall around her to keep others at bay… she had shown that tonight, he pondered. They were kindred spirits in a way, although completely opposite to each other…Was she really as alone, emotional and insecure as she had put across? She loved him; that much was clear… Why exactly, Draco knew not… he was the type to be obsessed over, yes, but loved? No. He was dark, snide, brooding… violent to his partners. Perhaps she had warmed to the part of him that existed in the fortress he had built inside of him, which he had, unwillingly, allowed her to bear witness to. Draco found himself warming to that same part of her.

For different reasons.

She needed to be broken, put in her place. He would mould her to fit his type; although it would be a challenge, a challenge was just what he needed.
