CHAPTER ONE:-

The Sun was shining brightly over the hills of Scotland. Below, in a Valley which to a muggle eye looked uninhabited, sounded a loud school bell. It was lunch break at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Students began to file out of classrooms, the sounds of chatter and laughter could be heard throughout the castle. Four boys were left packing their books away inside the large transfiguration classroom. Professor McGonagall was marking exam papers on her desk. The boys stood up to leave.

“Mr Lupin” Professor McGonagall said without looking up, “Do you mind staying behind for a few minutes, I need to talk to you.” She carried on marking the papers. The tallest boy looked over to her. He had shoulder-length dirty blonde hair and piercing grey eyes, this was Remus Lupin. Remus looked over to his friends,
“Go on ahead, I’ll catch up with you.” He put down his bag and headed over to the front desk.

“Sure, see you in a minute Moony.” Sirius Black, a boy with wavy black hair and even blacker eyes opened the door and followed the other two boys outside. The door shut and McGonagall looked up at Remus, who was shifting his weight from side to side uneasily.
“Professor Dumbledore is concerned with your lack of concentration.” She began, putting down the quill she was holding and looking at Remus seriously. “You are underachieving in all your subjects.” She continued to look at Remus. “You have your first OWL tomorrow, Defence against the dark arts, which you should get an E in, but at the moment I doubt that you’ll even receive an A in it.” McGonagall paused before carrying on. “So the headmaster was wondering if there is anything you want to talk to him about?” She stopped here as if to let Remus answer, but he just shook his head.

McGonagall continued to look at him for a few more seconds before picking up her quill again. “Very well then.” She looked back down at the paper on her desk. “However, if you do change your mind, the password is Sugar Mice.” She gestured to the door. Remus nodded and picked up his bag. “Oh, by the way, don’t forget to take your potion tomorrow. I know it doesn’t do much, but at least it eases the pain.” McGonagall added in a more gentle tone of voice.

Outside the transfiguration room Remus’ three friends were waiting for him.
“I hope he hurries up.” Sirius said impatiently, “The weather is so nice today.” He glanced out of the window opposite. A tall girl with strawberry blonde hair walked past trying to ignore the three boys.

“Nice weather to play Quidditch in.” added James Potter, a boy with scruffy black hair and round glasses, loudly while he ran his hand through his hair. “Hey Evans!” He called after the girl, who stopped at the top of the stairs. “Where’re you going?” James lent back against the wall cooly.

“None of your business!” The girl called over her shoulder and walked off down the stairs. Her name was Lily Evans, and like the four boys, she too was a Gryffindor fifth year.

“Honestly mate, I don’t see why you even bother.” Said Sirius grinning at James. Just then Remus walked out of the transfiguration classroom.

“About time Moony, what did she want to talk to you about?” James asked as they headed downstairs, Peter, a small plump boy with short brown hair, tagged along behind them.

“Only about my grades falling, and if I want to talk to someone that Dumbledore’s willing to listen.” Remus walked through the open front door.

“Oh, at least she didn’t blame us, did she?” Sirius followed him outside. Remus shook his head, eventhough he knew his friends were the reason. The four of them headed over to a large tree beside the lake.

“Oh, by the way, the password to Dumbledore’s office is Sugar Mice.” Remus sat down in the shade of the tree.
“Cool.” James grinned and sat down beside the tree. No doubt scheming a plan to get into Dumbledore's office secretly.

“Here. I worked on it a couple of hour’s yesterday evening.” Sirius pulled a piece of parchment out of his robes and lay down on the grass. Peter sat cross-legged watching Sirius.

“So, what’s new Padfoot?” James moved closer to the parchment excitedly.

“Watch this.” Sirius took out his wand and pointed it at the parchment.

“I solemny swear that I am up to no good.” He said clearly. Suddenly a map began to form on the piece of parchment. Sirius turned to grin at his friends. Remus gazed at Sirius in amazement.

“And you done that all on your own?!” He picked up the map and looked closely at it. Sirius nodded. Peter began to clap loudly.

“Keep down the sound, Wormtail!” James hissed at Peter, who obeyed and stopped clapping,

“And now to get rid of the map.” Sirius snatched the map from Remus. He pointed his wand at it again and said proudly, “Mischief Managed.” The map faded away leaving the parchment blank again.

“That’s really good Padfoot.” James sat back against the tree. “All we need now is a name, and the map is complete.” Sirius nodded in agreement and pocketed the parchment.

“I’m hungry.” Peter lay on his back and looked up at the bright sky.

Remus took out his long narrow wand and pointed it behind him at the castle. “What do you want?” He looked at Peter.

“Just a Sandwich.” Peter said, still staring at the sky.

“Accio Sandwiches.” Remus smiled as a large plate of Sandwiches came zooming across the grounds towards them. A couple of people watched the plate land smoothly beside Remus.

“How do you do it that smoothly?!” Sirius looked at Remus.

Remus smiled and said, “Dig in.” And the four of them began to eat.

That evening something very unusual occurred. Sirius stood up in the Gryffindor common room and yawned. “I’m going to bed.” He said, closing his Defence against the dark arts text book. “Why don’t you? You could do with some rest.” He said, looking over to Remus who was crouched over a big black book.

“I need to get my grades up.” Remus didn’t look up.

“Well, see you in the morning then.” Sirius sighed and headed up to the boys dorms. Remus did not reply, he was too busy revising. Now he was all alone in the dark common room, only lit by the dying fireplace. Outside thunder shook the large castle, a storm was brewing.

Remus was so enthralled reading his book that when he heard a small ‘pop’ from the corner of the room, he shot up like a rocket, his wand out and ready. “Who’s there?!” He turned harshly to face the corner.

“Me, Mr Lupin, sir.” A small house-elf made it’s way out of the shadows. Remus lowered his wand slightly. “Dobby the house-elf, sir.” The little house-elf squeaked and made a small bow in front of Remus. Remus wondered why a house-elf was visiting him, but before he could ask Dobby the house-elf tugged on his sleeve. “Dobby has come to tell you of a great danger, sir. Remus Lupin must follow Dobby quickly!” Dobby began to pull Remus towards the common room door.

“Hey, wait a minute.” Remus pulled away from Dobby’s grasp. “Firstly, how the hell do you know my name?!” Remus looked at the little creature with his piercing grey eyes, making Dobby feel that he could see right through him. “Secondly, I’m not allowed out there this late at night, if a teacher see’s me I’ll be in deep trouble.” But as he said this Remus felt the map inside his robes. Dobby just opened the portray hole.

“Explainations are for later.” He sqweaked, and left the room. Feeling that he had nothing to lose, Remus studied the map and followed Dobby out of the room, still clutching his wand tightly.

Dobby led Remus up to the statue, leading up to the headmaster’s office.

“Dobby, why are…” he began, but Dobby interrupted.

“The password?” he squeaked quietly.

“It’s sugar mice, but why are we going up there?” Remus asked in a hushed tone. Glancing at the map he noticed that Professor Binns was heading their way. The statue suddenly sprung sideways, revealing a narrow staircase. Quickly, Remus pushed Dobby inside and followed him. The statue sprung closed and Remus let out a sigh of relief.

“Now Dobby.” He turned to look at Dobby, but Dobby was already at the top of the staircase.

“Come Mr Lupin, sir.” Dobby opened the door. Remus walked up the stairs and followed Dobby inside. He was relieved, yet surprised to find that Dumbledore was not inside. “Over here.” Dobby called. He was stood beside a large stone basin.

“Isn’t that the thing which can show peoples memories?” Remus headed over to Dobby, who nodded excitedly.

“Now watch.” Dobby snatched Remus’ wand and placed it against his head.

“Hey, give that back!” Remus shouted, but before he was able to take it back, an image appeared inside the basin. Curiously, Remus stopped and peered inside. At first it all seemed blurred, but as Remus looked closer the image came into focus. Amazed, Remus lent even closer. Suddenly he felt himself fall inside. He landed with a small ‘thud’ on a cold stone floor. Sitting up he looked around dazed. He was in a dimly lit room, which reminded him very much of the Slytherin common room. Suddenly a tall man with long blonde hair and a flowing green cloak entered the room slowly. It was Lucius Malfoy.

CHAPTER TWO:-

Immediately Remus jumped up. “I…I…” he began to stutter, but Lucius just walked straight past him as if Remus was invisible. “Hello?” Remus spoke again, confused. Lucius just continued to pace the length of the room, every now and then nervously looking towards the dark door. Realising that this must be just a memory of Dobby’s and Lucius really couldn’t see him, Remus lent against the back wall waiting for something to happen. The minutes on the golden clock passed relatively quickly and just over ten minutes waiting the door burst open. Lucius shot around on the spot to face the door. A hooded figure entered the room, their long black robes flowing behind them. Lucius threw himself into a deep bow in front of the figure. Two long, elegant hands pulled back the hood to reveal a rather attractive man, no older than his mid-twenties. The man glanced around the room before his eyes seemed to lock onto Remus’. He had very soothing deep brown eyes, the same colour as his shoulder-length hair. For a second Remus believed that this man could actually see him, but the man just looked away casually. Sweeping past Lucius, who was still thrown down on the floor, the man sat himself gracefully onto the large leather sofa.

“Sit Malfoy.” He commanded at Lucius with a calm voice. Somehow the man reminded Remus vaguely of Dumbledore. Lucius obeyed without a word and sat himself in a leather chair opposite the sofa. “You are to kill them all.” The man’s eyes pierced into Lucius’. “And kill any muggles which get in your way too.” Remus didn’t understand what this man was talking about, but it didn’t sound very friendly. “I want no survivors other than my followers.” The man continued to speak in a calm voice, slowly getting back to his feet. “Yes master Riddle.” Lucius’ voice trembled slightly. “DON’T USE THAT NAME!” Riddle’s voice rose slightly aggressively. Lucius whimpered slightly, apologising. “When the time is right I shall use a new name. A name which one day everyone will fear to speak. Wizards and Muggles alike.” Riddle pulled his hood back over his head, shrouded himself once more in darkness. Lucius continued to apologise quietly, as he stood up and joined Riddle at the now open door. Riddle gave a small smile, which seemed to send a warm shiver through Remus’ body. Who is he? The question flew through Remus’ mind. Riddle turned on his heels and walked outside where he was submerged in blackness, Remus caught one last glance of his coat whipping in the wind before Riddle disappeared.

Lucius stood as quiet as a mouse by the open door for a brief moment before he too disappeared out of it, closing it loudly behind him. Remus straightened himself up. Just then a house-elf cautiously wandered out from behind the leather sofa. “Dobby!” Remus whispered loudly, and ran over to him. But the house-elf didn’t reply. He just stared absendmidedly at the darkened door from which the two men had disappeared out of. Dobby too could not see Remus. A rush of panic flushed over Remus. How were you supposed to get out of a memory? Just as he was racking his brains for an idea, something gave a sharp tug at his collar. Suddenly the room began to sway and blur. The door merged in with the rest of the furniture in the room. It swirled around and around in front of Remus' eyes, making him feel rather ill. Remus found himself flung out of the stone basin, where he landed with a thud next to the headmaster’s Phoenix. Regaining himself, he jumped up and turned to face Dobby. "Wha..." But before he could say anything Dobby gave a small ‘pop’ and disappeared into a puff of dull grey smoke. Remus was now all alone in the headmaster’s office. I better get outta here before Dumbledore comes back. He thought to himself and headed quickly over to the door. To his great surprise the door opened before he could reach it. Remus froze to the spot. Dumbledore took a step backwards, looking slightly amazed at Remus stood inside his office. “Mr Lupin. What are you doing in my office?” He asked in a tone of mild interest and stepped inside his office. Remus attempted to come up with a story, but Dumbledore seemed to see right through him. If only James was here now to help him out. Dumbledore closed the door behind him and made his way over to his desk. Seeing no other way Remus sighed and told Dumbledore the truth. From Dobby turning up in the Gryffindor common room, to everything he had seen in the house elfs memory.

“And this man. His name was Riddle?” Dumbledore placed his long fingers together. Remus nodded, stroking the headmaster’s phoenix softly. “This seems quite serious.” Dumbledore turned to a portrait of a previous headmaster. “Armando, you have a portrait at the Malfoy’s. Keep an eye-out and update me if anything more happens.” The man in the portrait bowed slightly too falsly for Remus' liking, before quickly disappearing out of the frame. Dumbledore turned and looked at Remus over his half-moon glasses. “I want you to go straight back to your dormitory. No detours.” His voice was commanding yet calm, exactly like Riddle’s had been. “And it would be best if you didn’t mention what you saw to anyone just yet.” He rose an eyebrow, to which Remus replied with a simple nod.

The rest of the week went by without anymore abnormalities occurring. Remus kept his promise to Dumbledore and did not mention any of the night’s events to anyone. Not even to his closest friends, Sirius, Peter and James. Little did Remus know that eventually his life and the lives of his friends would change. The world as he had known it to exist would soon come to an end...
No-one? sweatdrop crying
tht was soooo beautiful crying
...it was??! lol. ninja
Do you think I should continue it then? whee
thts not really up 2 me
u should do watever u think is best
LOL well that's what I can't decide upon. rolleyes
If people aren't reading it/not liking it...there's no point in me continuing it... ninja But if people do want me to continue it, then I shall. whee
watever xp if writing is ur passion then just continue it
The story was very well written, but it does have some flaws. FanFics must contain some of the facts provided from the originals. These are minor details, but crucial all the same:

1. Voldemort was using this new assumed name when he was a student at Hogwarts.
2. Lucius went to school with Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs.
3. (If I remember correctly, for I do not have my books with me) Armando didn't have a portrait at the Malfoy's. He was either at St. Mungos, The Ministry, or the Blacks. Unless I am confusing him and you just made him up. If that's the case, then his name is spanish, not english.

you may take my criticism as you wish, but I beg you not to take offense. It is all to help you in the end.
I totally like critism, & your points are kinda valid, but firstly, as far as I'm concerned a fanfic doesn't need to stick with every detail from the originals; that's why it's a fanfic after all. I chose to write this one as if Tom Riddle wasn't yet using the name Voldmort. And Armando could have had a portrait at the Malfoys, they could have in later years just taken it down. xp

But about Lucius; he was no longer at school when James, Sirius, Remus & Peter were in their 5th year...he was quite some years older than them. rolleyes
oh thats right! he's Molly's age isnt he? And I know that fanfics dont keep all the same facts, but the important ones, like the fact that he hated his father's name... he would have assumed another name as soon as possible, not wait 50 years.

The story line in general though is very well thought out, and I like how you are getting Harry's dad into the mix, and that could lead to yet another motive to kill the potters.
yeah, I guess your right about voldemort there...I just really wanted to write about riddle still, rather than already voldemort. hmm...maybe I can find a way around it, there isn't much on voldemort after he finished school & before he rose to power. I'll have a flick through the books, see what I find & then go from there. 3nodding
