Oi, I really didnt know they had fanficiton here lD
Anyways, I have this fanfiction that Im writing, but Im afraid people will flame it just because they hate the show.
...No one here writes about it >.>;
o.o;
And Im just really shy. lD -loser-
So, what d'you think I should do? D:
(This goes for both Gaia and Ff.net. >>; )
If it's Pokémon, don't worry. We have several people who write about it here. At least, several that I remember mentioning it. And I still like Pokémon. It's just weird trying to write a story for it, in my opinion.

And if my guess is wrong, (which it probably is), what are you writing about?

P.S. I got the "é" by holding Alt, then pressing 130. It's fun to experiment. áíóúñÑéâäàåçêëèïîÄÅÉæÆôöòû (That's 130-150, plus some.)

What show is it? (I won't be able to say much seeing as I don't watch any Tv shows but still you shouldn't be afraid)

I want to hit myself sometimes.

Ultimately, despite what I've said above, giving extra powers to an existing character IS quite beneficial. Heck, when it comes down to it that's exactly what I'm doing in my Sonic fic. So yeah, when it comes to practice, I'm the same as anybody else.

Though I like to think that even in my AUs I try to stick as close to cannon as possible.

Sometimes I worry about giving the main character in my fic extra powers. The thing is, I created a long, excruciating past to explain the new powers and personality. Not only that, but I turned a emo romance story into an action thriller. I'm a bit afraid of how it will be perceived by the usual demographic.

I included as much of the original story line as was possible, however, I also included a bunch of original characters. One of which, I fear, people will accuse of being a mary sue.

That's exactly what's happening in my fic too. There's one character in particular, and then two others far far later on in the story, that could scream Mary Sue if I'm not careful. But I won't know until I write it out and listen to the crits.

Speaking of which, my story still hasn't gotten any. I've only been able to reel in one good critical reviewer so far. Though, I'll admit the plot is only just starting to really pick up speed in this latest chapter.

Does anybody know good ways to get the attention of GOOD readers, and then actually get them to review?

I can't help with the reviewers, I haven't posted my story yet. I'm waiting until I finish the last chapter. According to the MS test my one character is borderline, but she has the body of a twelve year old, doesn't have any love interests, and has a limited role. She is more a guide then anything else. Tokino puts people where I need them to be.

The problem is, she is a competent fighter and on rare occasions speaks a word of wisdom. As for the others, they're bad guys and backround characters.

What is your story about and what fandom is it in? I may be able to give you a review, if I know the series well enough.
I simply used a combination of things to alter give Naruto a Kekkei Genkai. First off he is Tsunade's grandson in this universe I made, and thus inheirited the Mokuton ability. Second he has something like a cursed seal, called the Sacred or Blessed Seal. This combined with the Kyuubi's influence created the Higuregan which works in a less mary sue fashion than Sharingan.

The powers are the ability to analyze ninjutsu but not counter it, the use of the mokuton ability, the last ability is an ability to see through most genjutsu except those caused by Kekkei Genkai. It essentially can copy most ninjutsu in the sense it can identify hand seals, but other than that its up to Naruto to learn how to do the techniques.

Hm, well.
It's a cross over of CardCaptor Sakura...and... Danny Phantom. e.e

Your character sounds quite alright by my standards. Especially if the situation is a bit unusual for the setting, sometimes an OC is necessary to push characters along in the right direction. The way I see it, if the OC isn't hogging the spotlight then it can work really well for the story. Even in well written OC stories, I just tend to end up getting bored if the OC has too major of a role mostly because I want to read about the cannon characters.

As for my story. It's for the 'Sonic the Hedgehog' fandom and it's about....alot of things. It's actually a series of stories.

The first story (the one I'm working on now) is a sort of 'growing into/coming of age' theme. The second's theme is the facing of 'the unkown, fears, and the defeat of great challenges.' The third focuses on 'trust, partnership, and deceit.' Fourth is 'Revelations and acceptance of fate.' I have loose ideas for more stories after that which will eventually connect to the last story (which ironically was the first to be fully plotted) and which focuses on 'accomplishing destinies and the passing of an age.'
There is also, finally, a complete sequal planned after the last story (I keep it separate because the staring character cast will be different from the other stories) which focuses on 'moving on after loss, rebuilding, faith, and burdens of leadership.'

But yeah, as said, I've only got the first four chapters of the first story up so far so there's still a lot that's going to happen. *looks at her notebook full of plot drafts, notes, and research* I'VE BIRTHED A MONSTER!
Eh, all this talk of Mary Sues worries me. D:
I do have an OC, but she has no powers or anything xD And no love intrests. O_O;

The only way to really know whether a character is a Mary Sue or not is to ask an experienced reader/writer to read your story an then give you their opinion.

I personally don't put much weight to those Mary Sue tests out on the net.
My OC Ginshin was called a Mary Sue, but his powers are dangerous since he has to use his own blood and a lot of chakra to use the metal ability. The nearest thing to mary sue is his relationship with Shizune in the story but, if they don't like it they can read somethin else. As far as Im concerned it has to be that way. It gives me a challenge and some experience to shape things as I need to. Only a few said he was a Mary Sue, everyone else liked Ginshin.

I stopped watching CCS after I missed over 75% of the show when it aried on TV (because I didn't get home in time from school to catch it). But now with Tsubasa, I'll probably start again. Danny Phantom's a weird thing to cross over with, but don't be ashamed. I'd do a crossover with something else that has to do with ghosts, like an anime or manga that has shinigami or something in it (i.e Full Moon wo Sagashite, Yami no Matsuei, Bleach). But I could have sworn that, like 100 or so pages back, someone mentioned they wrote about Danny Phantom....

I sometimes wonder if people call OCs Mary Sue just because they don't like the characters. I mean, it's hard to define clearly just what a Mary Sue is, and I can bet about half of the readers on FF.net don't know what it means. I didn't know what a Mary Sue was until I was accused twice that my OC was a Mary Sue (one instance it was a flame) and I asked my friends and looked it up. And that was almost a year atfer I started on FF.net... sweatdrop

A Mary Sue is hard to definie. I mean if the character is lazy, and not that brainy s/he can't be a mary sue. The litmus test are also too undefining, like "Does the character have a look a like" that counts as a point to mary sueing. There could be a reason, such as the body and soul were seperated into two entities, one composed of good, one composed of evil. I think a lot of people assume and OC is a Mary Sue. For some its out of jealousy they couldnt make a character like that, for others they don't like characters like that. Some author's make OC's because then they have more to work with, I consider my OC's part of the expanded universe of Naruto.

I think some OC's are Mary Sue's just because they have way too much power. I also think some authors should put a little more effort into their oc's, it makes it more enjoyable if the OC's are thought out.

I thought I was bad when my story went from nine chapters to twenty. I applaude your tenacity, I would never be able to finish a project like that. I don't know much about the Sonic universes, but I'll check it out if you give me the link. Is this for the old Sonic the Hedgehog, the new Sonic, or Sonic Underground? I've only seen a couple episodes of the new version and I don't remember much of the underground series.
