Welcome to Gaia! ::

So...exactly HOW do we put this plan into action? People won't be so nice as to give their age, with the whole internet security thing and stuff.

OR...

We could make our own website of only the select few stories that are worthy of reading (jeez, this is just like my C2 idea...)

I have way too many ideas in my head like this...but I have no idea how to put them into action... Same thing goes for stories, like everyone's been saying. I have a million and one files with titles and summaries sitting on my computer, waiting to be written...but I can't start them until I finish my other ones...
The problem with creating a site dedicatied to 'stories worth reading' is determining what is worthy. Everyones taste is different, and determining a set standard would be difficult. Not to mention the problem of getting it advertised enough to attract intelligent readers. It's a good idea, just not entierly phesable without extensive work.

The C2 idea would work better, though it would have to be someone well known on that site; credability is everything. Or...just go the old fashioned route and drive them off by force; enough less than kind comments should do nicely.
It shall require finesse.
Good luck with finesse. Most of these 'bad writers' are either too arrogent to listen or just plain dumb.
(hey, I'm back. Diddnt realize anyone would respond to my whining 0.0)

To all who responded, yah, I know there are stories that dont focus on romance, and I know that not all fanfics with couples focus on romance, but you have admit those fics arnt exactly the magority =(

But anyway, done with whining.

The problem with making a special website with only great stories is that you have to take into account the predgudice (ugh, my spelling sucks today >,< wink of the person doing the choosing. The judger might have something against, say, Naruto/Hinata couple stories, so even if the story was good, he/she wouldnt like it. Or just the opposite, the person absolutly adores Naruto/Hinata fics and would end up uploading fics that arnt all that good becouse they like the coupling.

You would have to find somebody, or a lot of somebodies, who are completly unbaised.
Perhaps I can offer an idea...

How about creating a rubric of what would qualify a story as good.

For example, good spelling and grammar would be musts. If there were a rubric, it would be possible to have multiple judges and the stories, no matter the pairings or other such heavily opinionated material, would be judged equally.
It is true that some people are biased because when it comes to Naruto pairings, the majority is SasuNaru or NaruHina. And those who show this tardism dislike any well thought out fanfiction that are other pairings.

Before going further I must ask; is this 'rubric' aimed at the naruto fandom only or the general fanfiction area?
A general rubric for the whole fanfiction area, though it sounds good, might be a bit difficult to manage since fandoms can have some unique...quirks.

If there was a general form for the rubric, and that form could be adapted with minor specific details to fit specific fandoms; that would be the ideal solution it seems.
In that case, I would like to offer my full support for whatever you and any commitee you create come up with. It would be a relief to see a strong crackdown on the usual trash that is posted on ff.net as of late.

Personally, I write in the Pokemon fandom exclusivly (kiddy, sure; but I like it) and it has become increasingly difficult to find anything worth a second glance nonetheless an actual thought out review. That being said, I do hope that if anything does begin my own works can pass muster.
I'm Krysy Worthington, but for some reason it wont let you search for me, at least, it never worked for me...

I have one really REALLY gay Harry Potter one, I've tried more, but I just haven't ever put them up, and I have a BtVS one-shot, but it could turn into more.

They also need to know we dont always feel like writing fics.

I agree 3nodding
My friend doesn't always feel like writing and goes on extensive breaks in stories if she doesn't feel like writing it...there's just a lot of whiners though who insist on update after update sweatdrop
The rules for this sub-forum can be soooo confusing at times. For example, I have a question about fanfiction in general, but then the guide sticky says to keep these things in the main writers forum...where I fear my question won't be answered. This thread is now the only place I can think of to ask. *sighs*

Anyway, my question is: are there still any annually held fanfiction contests. For general fanfiction OR specific fandoms. I remember a couple years back, when I started writing (during the glory days of gundam wing on CN *coughhach*) there were a whole bunch of sites that would hold annual, or semi-annual fanfiction contests and give out awards.

Now I can't find any of those anymore. A little help anybody?
I never heard of the FF.net website itself holding contests, but every once in a while independant forums will hold contests for specific fandoms. You might want to look around for that.
