Chapter 3: Jasper
The next day at school she was there, across the parking lot watching us. Edward and I were getting out of the Volvo when he pointed her out sitting on her Harley. She was watching us, and I knew she knew everything that we were thinking. Surprisingly enough, I was ok with that.
"Maybe we should talk to her," I suggested.
"No, keep walking straight." Edward said curtly.
"Wait, listen she could have good intentions."
"Or she could be baiting us. Pretending to get on our good sides, then using Jasper for some sick plan."
"Still, we should at least-"
"No Bella, c'mon lets just get to class."
I didn't push the matter further, his mind was made up and nothing I could say could convince him otherwise. As we walked I noticed him and Luci staring straight at each other, and there was no doubt in my mind that they were talking telepathically. Then it all made sense. The way they kept looking at each other, how Edward and Alice didn't want the others to know about the vision. They were keeping something from me, they figured out something about that vision and Luci wanted them, only, to know.
After third period I saw Luci going into the teacher's bathroom. It was the typical one room restroom with the "Falculty Only" sign clearly visable. Seeing that Edward was still talking to Mr. Cleavland -something he always did so that teachers believed he got straight As because he asked question- I walked across the hall to the teacher's bathroom. No one was really in the hall, except a few freshman, so when I knocked slightly on the door I tried to look casual. The door opened slowly and slightly. Quickly I slipped through the narrow doorway.
I quickly turned to close the door and when I turned back around she was there sitting on top of the toilet on the coverseat. Her ivory legs were crossed with her sharp black leather ankle boots slightly swirving up and down. Her turquoise short skirt flowed off her thighs and her arms were crossed over her faded pale blue wife beater. She had a lot of anklets, bracelets, rings, ear rings, and necklaces draping her limbs and neck. All of them seemed expensive and looked so unique looking. With the bandanna on her forehead, she looked like a gypsy. The kind of gypsy you imagined in the stories, scary, majestic, beautiful, mythical, and wise.
"Hello Bella," she said, her voice being the sweetest sound I ever heard. For awhile I had forgotten Edward's voice, my parents' voices, Alice's, Jacob's...there was only Luci.
"Hello," I said meekly.
"I'll just get right to the point," she said piercing me with her ghostly eyes, "I want to see Jasper."
"I can't help you. It's up to the Cullens."
"But you could convince them."
"Why would I do that?"
"You're right you have no reason to, but please I have to see him."
"Why?"
"That's not your concern, all you need to know is that it is very important that I see him."
"Does it have to do with that vision that you showed us?"
"Possibly," she said with vague intent.
"You know, I have a theory," I said feeling a bit more comfortable around her.
"Go on."
"You were the one dying in that vision." Though it was her face that I had seen in the bed dying, she could have been mascarading as someone else. But considering I knew no one of importance relationg to this that lived in the 1800s, besides her, I knew it was her. Her eyes were the only proof I needed.
"Very well, if that's your theory."
She looked straight into my eyes again, and for a moment nothing else mattered. We were in our own world now, out of the bathroom, out of Forks, out of America, out of this world. We escaped time and matter, it was as if we were exsisting before the universe was even created. Now I knew what the people in the Bible felt when they looked at angels. I don't think it was exactly like looking at God, whatever that feels like, but it was the closest thing. The feeling was undescrible. But for the first time in my life, I felt that I wasn't in my own skin. I was weightless.
"Bella!" Edward yelled from outside the door, "Bella get out of there now!"
"You better go," she said.
I nodded in agreement.
"But before you do," she said as she took my hand, her hand feeling like the smoothest icicle, "give this to Jasper."
It was an oval shaped stone. Edward was still knocking and shouting frantically, and was interupting the moment, "I'll be there in a second!" I yelled at him angrily. I never yelled at him like that before, but I didn't want to leave her.
"I will," I told her.
"Promise me," she pleaded.
"I promise."
When I opened the door, Edward gave me the sternest look.
"Where is she?" He said as he walked passed me into the bathroom, but Luci wasn't there. The window way above the sink was open, leaving no trace that Luci was ever there.
"Who? Edward what is wrong with you?"
"Luci wasn't in here?"
"No," I lied. I never lied to him, "geese can't a girl have some privavcy."
"Are you sure she wasn't in there?" He asked me suspiciously.
"Gosh eww no! Edward, seriously you're really getting too paranoid about this."
"Then why were you in the teacher's bathroom?"
"I like the privacy, but I guess I don't even get that."
"Ok ok, sorry, it's just-"
"I know," I said forgiving him, "it's all because you care so much," I kissed his cheek, "and I love you for it but please, let me do my business in peace."
He smiled, "Very well."
