I don't get this criticism, obviously there are a ton of people all throughout Europe with reactionary views. But in France they elected a socialist who's going to legalize gay marriage with a majority of people supporting it. For Americans to sit here and criticize France for having intolerant people in it are hypocritical. Look at our giant plank in our eye, at least France is taking concrete steps to try and change that. Now where are our politicians putting bills forward that that would legalize same sex marriage? How many hundreds of thousands, if not millions, would protest that legislation in America?

It's very likely that the Supreme Court will en mass strike down all gay marriage bans this June, possibly even bringing about legalizing it in the process. And a good half of the US has states that either have gay marriage or are pushing for it on the behest of various governors and state congresses. I even live in a gay marriage state that's had gay marriage since 2008.

How exactly you're unaware of all this I don't know.

The French gave their lives for American independence. They secured the safety of American children of future generations against the imperialistic United Kingdom. The French have adored the United States since it's birth. It's great to see how much Americans appreciate France.

I'm not unaware, I live in a state where that was on the ballot in 2008. I'm more talking about a NATIONAL bill to legalize same-sex marriage like France is doing. If there were concrete steps put forward in Congress to create a law legalizing it and by chance it made it to Obama's desk I guarantee you there would be bigger protests than the ones in France. The OP seems to be saying these French people are backwards when they legalize gay marriage because there are people protesting it. As if, given the same conditions, it wouldn't happen in America.

I don't know why you've divided the two religions through ethnics. They're both religions and both have certain ethnic groups. For example, Islam has an ethnic group known as the Hui people living in China. And Judaism have Ashkenazi Jews located throughout the world but mainly in Europe. Both religions accept conversion, so if I was to join either religion would I be considered part of a "Jewish ethnic" group even though my genetics are completely different?
