I don't get this criticism, obviously there are a ton of people all throughout Europe with reactionary views. But in France they elected a socialist who's going to legalize gay marriage with a majority of people supporting it. For Americans to sit here and criticize France for having intolerant people in it are hypocritical. Look at our giant plank in our eye, at least France is taking concrete steps to try and change that. Now where are our politicians putting bills forward that that would legalize same sex marriage? How many hundreds of thousands, if not millions, would protest that legislation in America?

All the French people I've ever met have been ignorant, arrogant, and hypocritical. I'm not saying that everyone in France is this way, but I wouldn't be surprised if a statistic proved it to be true.

So much for the "Nation of Love".

oh, it still is, it's just only a certain type of approved, government-sanctioned love they are the nation of.

Self-love would be far more accurate.

I would think the Nation of Self Love would be the US, based on recent pornography creation and consumption statistics.

Thanks for posting something so hateful. No, Not all of us french are ignorant, arrogant, and hypocritical. There are some of us that are sensible and stick to what we believe in. However, Why is it that most Americans I've been in touch with lately are just stereotypical, hateful, and in no way productive? I mean, I'm not saying everyone in America is this way, but I wouldn't be surprised if They were.

No, I don't hate America or Americans. But seriously, why all the hate? There is always protests and opposition in any argument. This turn out wasn't that big if you use the statistic of how many people there are in France all together. There's more homophobia in America than France, but I guess its fun pointing the finger at someone else for the change, Eh?

And before the poster tries to call me out saying "See! She said she wasn't a hypocrite but she is!" No. I'm a bit peeved that my country, and my fellow country men and women, are being bombarded by hateful comments such as this, certainly from many people who's own country doesn't legalize same sex marriage. For the first world country supposedly being a role model for other countries, its not doing a very good job.

Did you just chastise someone for generalizing your countrymen then turn around and generalized Americans as hateful in the exact same post?

A disclaimer saying, 'This isn't hypocritical" doesn't undo the fact that you just mirrored her ignorance and with even more flourish. emotion_facepalm
