Welcome to Gaia! ::

So wait, this is the same country that unanimously opposed the Iraq war? Hundreds of thousands of people turned up to protest gay marriage equality
around the Eiffel Tower.

Where's those angry Algerian teens turning over cars when you need them?
Oh well, least we can go back to making fun of the French?

PARIS - Several hundred thousand people converged at the Eiffel Tower in Paris Sunday to protest President Francois Hollande's bill to legalize same-sex marriage by June.

Protesters waved pink and blue flags showing a father, mother and two children. Many had taken long train and bus rides from outside Paris.

Hollande has pledged to push through a same-sex marriage law with his Socialist party’s parliamentary majority, but his opponents have dented public support and forced deputies to put off a plan to allow lesbian couples access to artificial insemination.

Same-sex marriage is recognized in 11 countries including Belgium, Portugal, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Norway and South Africa. In the U.S., it is legal in nine states and in Washington, D.C.

Champ de Mars, the long park between the Eiffel Tower and the Ecole Militaire, was packed Sunday, with organizers claiming 800,000 protesters, but police more conservatively estimating 340,000 – a large turnout even in France, where protests are a way of life.

"Nobody expected this two or three months ago," said Frigide Barjot, a flamboyant comedian leading the demonstration. At the rally, she read aloud a letter to Hollande asking him to withdraw the bill and hold a public debate on the issue.
Thinking is for other people.
Me. I would have guessed that.

I just watched Les Miserables on Friday.
Anyone who realizes that Europe has a huge problem in ultra right wing politics and a huge exporter of right wing bigotry and racism?

The problem is with America, we just can't accept that certain people are uglier than other people.

I'm not sure what this has to do with my post.

Actually, France is known for that kind of thing. They're rather bigoted against their muslim population as well... moreso than the US.

Hm, I knew racism is a problem in many European countries, I just didn't realize that homophobia could be added to the list.

It's obvious, if you do a little research.
France can boast of a rather large population of citizens who despise homosexual people and adherents of Islam.
African descendants also face some discrimination, but that's more of a universal thing, really.
It is all very, very pathetic.

Let me list a few homophobic countries in the European Union to shed some light on the issue.

Italy, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Germany, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria, Norway, Armenia, Belgium, Cyprus, Serbia, Belarus, et cetera, et cetera...

Every country suffers from hate, you see--and not just directed at sexual orientation.
No matter where you flee to, you will always encounter people who would harass or harm you for your differences.
That is the world we have always lived in.

Nothing comes close to the homophobia in Jamaica and Uganda, where they chase down and kill people for being LGBT.

Funny thing about yesterday's massive protest in Paris...these Christian fascists there bragged how they came together with Muslims and Islamists to denounce homosexual marriage.

In other words, as much as those French people hate Muslims, they'll come together for the common hatred of gays

The joke being...French language, words, mannerisms, and just everything French is VERY VERY gay.

Yes, and there are similar atrocities taking place in the continent of Africa.
Abject poverty and religion go together like a spark and oil.

A quick correction, though: Muslim and Islamic are two words of the same subject.
Muslim is to Islam as Christian is to Christianity.
However, both things are equally abominable.
