Who here has heard of the Healthy life Extension Movement? It is a cause that is trying to get more funding into research that will make it so that humans will be able to live longer and lead more productive lives when they are older.

The Methuselah Foundation is the leading medical charity at the forefront of this cause, another person leading the the cause is a man named Dr Aubrey De Grey, a biomedical Gerontologist from Cambridge university. He has developed SENS an engineering approach to repair the damage caused by the aging process.

Please I want to here your thoughts about this. It is a very worthwhile cause because when you are older (age 70-100) do you want to be functionless? Do you want to have dementia? Do you want to have an age related disease that will kill you both slowly and painfully?

Hey, quit ******** up the ride. No really man, when I stepped into this human body thing there were so many different ways it could end. All you people want to do is make it all easy and painless. I really do not want to melt away. I want to go out with a ******** bang baby. Something has got to kill me.

MWAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH!

The only thing that happens to you when you age is your DNA or whatever ******** up and it cant repair its self properly. So if they can find a way to keep it from ******** up cause all the free radicals what the problem with that?

Exactly, nothing, most everybody supports this, or will support it. Many just havent heard about it yet. For those that do go against this, or pretend to go against this because they like to be Napolean Dynomite like contrarians, they will benefit from this too and I hope they do because most every body deserves their life and this chance at existence.

For a good example of people trying to hold things like this back, look up Luddites in wikipedia.
People are supposed to age naturally and die. It's been like that since the beginning of time on this planet and in a highly overpopulated world as it is, it really isn't necessary nor logical to prolong the human life. Not to mention the idea won't catch on if it's too expensive to repair the "damaged" DNA. This planet cannot hold extended life. It will collapse on itself if people are allowed to live forever because people tend to want babies and these babies will add to the overpopulation.

The world can really only take so much, so reality dictates that this isn't necessary. It would be great to cure old age diseases by fixing DNA, it really would. But to prolong life....that could be devastating to the planet in so many ways....if that makes sense to anyone. I would not support this because it would be pricey for people who would need it and could endanger this planet even more.

Come on, you seem relatively bright. I know you can come up with a conclusion better than that. Now tell me, what are some possible solutions to these concerns you raise?

Solutions are one thing, it's another when you know the world won't cooperate anyways. Besides, why can't you just be happy you were given life. When people do get old, most of them are happy and grateful for the life they lived and are ready to move on. My question to you is, why would you want to prolong a natural life? On top of it all, if people ate right and exercised they could live a decently long life as it is BUT most people are too lazy nowadays to even consider it. Things like this "miracle cure" seem to be for people who are afraid of death when there is nothing to fear.

Wont cooperate? Alright, well like I said, you seem bright, maybe really bright, so what is a solution to non cooperation? When people dont cooperate is death a solution? Can you think of any examples of challenges people faced where they didnt get cooperation and then they worked it out so they did?

Why would we want to prolong it... Tell me, can you name any reasons why you might want to keep your healthy life?

People say F it and eat greasy chicken because they know there is an eternal wall of obliteration waiting for them around the age of 80 anyways. Its not a miracle cure, its a natural progression of science to make this happen. Everything would be a miracle until it happens, like the invention of fire, language, agriculture, steam engine, industry, cars, flight, going to the moon, antibiotics, gene engineering, sequencing the genome, transhumanism, etc...

This wont be a miracle. There are 7 forms of damage that cause our cells to age us to death. Things that are like those forms of damage have already had success in the labs. This means that we already know how to work with the forms of damage we are targeting. I can understand how at one time, just a few short years ago it might have seemed like more of a miracle, but times are changing fast, and its not any more. Science and Technology continues to double in power.

This isnt about an elimination of death. We will all still die, and we all still want, and will have the option to die when we want. This is about the love of life. We will die, we still want to die someday, but if we dont have to, then we dont want to die at a set average age of 70 to 90. Why would we? How do we know how much stuff we may have left to do, have going on at the age of 90? If we are bored and theres nothing left to do, then you can choose to die. If you have a lot of stuff left to do then why would you want to die?

People that contemplate the imminst big 8 have a hard time running out of things to want to do.

Sounds good to me. If at 85+ I'm still not doing something I love, I think I'd probably have killed myself long before then anyway. Just in case I am, though, give me the option.

It's possible to have the option. But IMHO the major health organizations and governments are not giving us the option because they are not funding enough money into aging research.

Of course they're not. What's in it for them?

I don't know saving billions on dollars of health care costs for old people.

Oh, right, the make-old-people-give-you-money game would stop.

Isn't it the governments who lose out when they have the responsibility of using billions of tax dollars to look after old people? Depends on the system I guess.
