I would like this thread to be a simple agree/disagree and why in regards to the following statement:

Religious and secular people can never debate a topic and realistically expect the other party to agree with them and their reasoning because the only real reason a religious person needs for anything is "my religion says so" and that reason will never suffice for a secular person- nor can it be combated. Therefore, without full conversion of one party into the group of the other, neither can expect to convince the other when engaging in any debate.

Please discuss this as asked and leave out any judgments on the worth or value of either type of reasoning.

Religious people don't necessarily refer to their religion for all aspects of their life, and indeed, not all religions - if any - comment on all aspects of life. A person can look to a religion for moral guidance, for example, whilst looking to science for explanations of natural phenomena.
LOL, you're telling me? Trying to debate with people like Enmity Alert is sheer headdesk hell. The only way a nonreligious person can debate with a religious person is if both agree to leave religion completely out of it, otherwise the discussion is pretty much worthless.

People can always be saved but some heathens are nearly impossible to convert.

Atheists shouldn't be allowed speak of their beliefs in public I feel. Who wants to hear what an ATHEIST has to say? If I had my way I could preach here without being discriminated against. But nope I often feel oppressed here. I just get hounded down by people who hate God.

Unfortunately atheists are allowed to speak of their beliefs in public distasteful as it is, but I have no legal way to prevent that sadly.

*snort*

because the religious view is so fragile, any discussion that opposes it it dangerous.

But the little troll is wrong about something: atheists don't hate god/s we can't be bothered to waste energy hating a fictional character.

My faith is strong heathen.

1. I'm not a troll.
2. Why don't some people who hate God become atheists?
3. Why do atheists seem to hate Gods laws?
4. Why does it seem like an atheist will have a heart attack if they bump into a Bible?
5. Fictional? Prove it.

Latent masochism.

Why you see things the way you do is your own issue, but it's not a view shared by many.
Religious people just call me a blasphemer and turn the other cheek or whatever. It doesnt bother me.

If this were the case, then you wouldn't need to oppress those whom are not of the same faith.

I am not oppressing anyone.

Liberal Genius

And here I thought I could be both secular and a hindu. I guess either the OP is wrong or I am.

Bluntly, I agree. Those who base their reason on religion are too emotionally charged to listen and those who argue against them are convinced they are wrong... because of their high emotion. Neither are right... neither are wrong. They're both just too charged on their own fields.

You just said that you wish for atheists to not allowed to speak anything about their beliefs while having yourself be allowed to preach anywhere and everywhere. It sure sounds like you want to oppress other viewpoints.

Ergo, it seems you believe your faith (or those of your fellows) is so weak as to not be able to withstand any contradicting view.

False, reasoning as a dueling grounds can be judged by outside parties and therefore assessed; in terms of reasoning we are always using the same medium, the real world, as the measurement therefore annulling multiple arguments given by religious persons.

The easiest to think of is the concept of Zeus throwing thunderbolts.

i guess you could try to separate the two parts of yourself that you identify as either secular or hindu, but i find it hard to believe that anyone can truly compartmentalize themselves. also, hindu is a religion that extends into a life philosophy for every aspect of your being, it's fairly all encompassing, so how do you divide that?

btw, thank you for somewhat addressing the statement without belittling anyone else, i should have known that this couldn't be done without it spiraling into an "they're stupid" war.
