Religion is a theory of where we all come from proposed by someone who, like all of us, was trying to cope with day to day life and the entirety of reality. They found something that made sense to them, that not only made sense to them but also comforted them, aswell so there was no internal struggle. That's what faith is, something that makes sense to you and at the same time is comfortably acceptable. Faith becomes religion when other people start following the same gospel

The bad side is, the obvious answer. You can't prove it, so it is the equivalent of an hypothesis. It's just another long winded guess on the infinite list of possibilities. But nobody likes having everything they believe in, reduced to the label of a "guess". No, not when you feel it in your bones, nay your soul. This flaw of religion brings out the defensive and competitive sides of humanity and then people HAVE to be RIGHT. No if's, and's, or but's about it. Then ofcoarse that leads to people closing their minds off to other possibilities and starts the whole religious zealot thing that started the Crusades and many other silly wars.

The good side is the jist of the first paragraph. The definition. It gives people comfort, sense, and peice of mind in this grand, chaotic, wonderous life that we all share a part in. That's all. In it's simplest form religion is at it's best.

It's the concept of faith whose inherent presence is necessitated by religions, darling. A careful process of unthinking belief that requires one to shut down all logical function and ignore all one's knowledge of the way the physical universe works.

Nothing is necessarily bad about the religion itself, only the people who follow it. It's rare for me to come across tolerance for an Atheist like myself.

I've no problem with morals and such. I have a problem with the people being hypocrites and not following said morals.

I have a problem with these people running to religion when their lives suck, and claiming to 'love Jesus/God'...when they rub it in everyone's face, and when they ultimately use religion as a crutch because they can't handle how crappy their lives are without blind faith. I hate pretenders. I hate freaks that ramble on and on about their religion, when they themselves are liars and what not.

No thanks.

I think there's nothing "bad" about religion, if it doesn't cause anykind of pain to the "outsiders".
But unluckily this hardly can be answered so simply...
Everyone has a different thought about what's wrong and what's right, and there are so many religions in the world which hold different (Or not so different.) kind of values.
And sometimes it's also a tradition, not only a belief.

I have to say, that I dislike some christians and that I don't like christianity as much as other religions, but this isn't important now.
Even tho I don't like christianity, I can't name any bad things it has caused which would prove something.

If I say; Christian people make their religion bad, I would lie. My own mother is a christian, and she's a wonderful woman. Of course I could just write "Some people make their religion look bad", but it doesn't really stand for a thing.
If I say that christianity is bad because christians slaughtered people, destroyed many other religions and forced people to believe in their gods instead of the people's own gods...
But that happened a long time ago, and crusades (mainly) caused that. And christians nowadays have anything to do with it. (Or atleast nothing really significant).

So, since I don't see anything bad about religion(s), there's no problem with tolerating them.
I admit it's stupid how few little things can make you almost hate something, even without important reason. cool

It's not the religion itself, it's the people choosing to follow every singel word and command, without ever giving it a second thought. There's mostly good and bad things in every religion, some people just use it all from the book, instead of using the good stories and ideas as an inspiration, and leave back the jugdemental or negative things the religion might support.

Many of the rules each religion has, may have made more sense back in the time they were written, that's why i think it's not the best idea to take everything too literally now a days.

It's not religion itself thats bad, its people. People get too fanatical about their beliefs and they get out of hand. They become close minded and ignorant.

My problems with modern-day Christianity: (not even getting into the historical aspect rolleyes )

1. People misusing the bible to deny gay people the fundamental right to marry.

2. Christians will "forgive" others for the aweful things they did, and then put themselves in positions where it will either happen again or the Christian will have to repress anger constantly.

3. Belief that humans are inherently "dirty," and that everyone around them is "dirty" unless they accept Christ.

4. Denying all sexual impulses.

5. "Blue" laws.

6. Trying their hardest to get everyone else to believe as they do.

^Just off the top of my head, btw.

People take it seriously, ie. more so than science.
