But can you say WHY killing a kitten solely for pleasure is wrong? I doubt you can. It cannot be proven with science. You believe it because it is what you are told. So did I.
I do not kill kittens because I do, however, believe in... personal rights. Everyone should be entitled to safety. This means not being raped or tortured. I believe in this because I do not want to be raped or tortured, and because I see the alternative as being total anarchy, which I don't want.
Having said that, explain right and wrong to me.
Science does not answer philosophical questions but rather measures and explains the natural world around us in simplest terms. However I do believe that Science could potentially explain how someone who kills an animal bred for our companionship and comfort being torturously defiled and wasted for no rational purpose would be evidence of a dangerous criminal/sociopathic mind.
Evil is the negation fo that which is good, in classical philosophy. Much may be rationally deduced with logic until such time as science posits ultimate evidence to satisfy your material demands for proof. Sin is behavior that lacks good or which negates good and is destructive with no purpose to good. Even mundane behaviors are not entirely neutral for they serve to support our daily existence. Torture of a kitten would not be an isolate event, but would be a symptom of other underlying problems and evidence of futher malevolent actions.
