Eh, you got me.

We just like killing people for fun, so yes, it was deliberate, as are every car crash and in fact heart disease. All a calculated act of the secret all powerful Israeli conspiracy.

Listen, you're just being a dumb ******** now. Shut up and listen to Wikipedia, AKA The History Books:

[******** USS Liberty incident was an attack on a United States Navy technical research ship, USS Liberty, by Israeli Air Force jet fighter aircraft and Israeli Navy motor torpedo boats, on 8 June 1967, during the Six-Day War.[3] The combined air and sea attack killed 34 crew members (naval officers, seamen, two Marines, and one civilian), wounded 171 crew members, and severely damaged the ship.[4] At the time, the ship was in international waters north of the Sinai Peninsula, about 25.5 nmi (29.3 mi; 47.2 km) northwest from the Egyptian city of Arish.[1][5]

Israel apologized for the attack, saying that the USS Liberty had been attacked in error after being mistaken for an Egyptian ship.[6] Both the Israeli and U.S. governments conducted inquiries and issued reports that concluded the attack was a mistake due to Israeli confusion about the ship's identity,[2] though others, including survivors of the attack, have rejected these conclusions and maintain that the attack was deliberate.

Irrefutable proof that the survivors say it was deliberate. You can't weasel your way out of this one, Stan Smith.

Let's go out on a limb here.

Why would the attack have been deliberate?

Okay, but they admitted to it, and it was obvious that it was Israel in so many ways; they could have just used a captured Egyptian ship if that's what they wanted.

[Former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Thomas] Moorer's panel suggested several possible reasons Israel might have wanted to attack a U.S. ship. Among them: Israel intended to sink the ship and blame Egypt because it might have brought the United States into the 1967 war.

Well, if that's your reasoning.

But many on the ship do not, many more have had what they said taken out of context, many more simply wouldn't have known. I'm not sure how one would know without evidence.

How can you say a rank falsehood like that, when if anything is clear, it is that the survivors are unanimous? How desperate are you to score a point, and why? You cannot produce a SINGLE dissenting survivor. Please try, then post an apology for that falsehood when you cannot. Servicemen-heroes should not be used that way for an agenda, by placing words in their mouths that never came out..

Where do you have proof it was unanimously supported? They also wouldn't have any evidence if it was deliberate or not, whether or not they were the victims.

Now it's your turn to furnish your proof of a single survivor who dissents. When you can't, then apologize for knowlingly lying about what the survivors said. That is the most underhanded and despicable tactic I can imagine.

"Lockwood was aboard the USS Liberty, a super-secret spy ship on station in the eastern Mediterranean"- well there's your problem, it was a spy ship, it would be easy to mistake that. If they thought it was a fishing ship, it's possible they thought it was suicide boat, so it doesn't even need to be advanced.

Mo successful argument of benefit has been presented for Israel purposely attacking an American warship, especially considering the high cost of predictable complications that would follow after attacking a powerful ally, and the fact that Israel notified the American embassy immediately after the attack.

Many people testified about the events, and their reports can be found in The Naval Inquiry files. It's a huge file, but it contains the testimony of over 14 crew members, who largely believed it was an attack.

Boston for instance took Admiral Kidd's quotes out of contexts, and acts to speak for the entire crew over supposed conversations he's had with many of them, none of which have been verified. It's been cited as "not being an accident", but that refers to the incident, and not the attack itself. Israel even admits the attack was intentional, but they believed the individuals involved were Egyptian.

"Boston prepared and signed an affidavit in which he said that Admiral Kidd had told him that the government ordered Kidd to falsely report that the attack was a mistake, and that Boston and Kidd both believed the attack was deliberate.[71] On the issue Boston wrote, in part"

"Cristol, who also served as an officer of the U.S. Navy's Judge Advocate General, suggests that Boston was responsible in part for the original conclusions of the Court of Inquiry and, that by later declaring that they were false, Boston has admitted to "lying under oath." Cristol also notes that Boston's statements about pressure on Kidd were hearsay, and that Kidd was not alive to confirm or deny them."

That notion got shot down already. Compare the photos of what the Israelis claimed they mistook the vessel for; Mr. McGoo could tell them apart.
