‎"To fight the Empire is to be infected by its derangement ... Whoever defeats the Empire becomes the Empire; it proliferates like a virus ... thereby it becomes its enemies." - The Empire Never Ended - Philip K. d**k

How do we fight the empire if one becomes infected by it?

"Because it's a warning about not becoming what you are against. It's surprisingly easy to fall into the same pitfalls that those you are against have fallen. Visionary thinking (power, sex, money) leads to this."

America is not an empire. To say that so emphatically in a factual manner just serves to make you look uninformed about the definition of "empire".

The United States is a first world power, but it just doesn't meet the definition of an empire.

An empire rules over countries, often transcontinental in scope. The U.S. government rules over provinces within it's own continent. (except for Hawaii)

The U.S. has a lot of problems and needs to improve, but using the word "empire" as a derogatory slander just doesn't work because an "empire" doesn't have to be "evil" and the U.S. doesn't even meet the definition of the word.
There is more then one type of Empire, nor did I bluntly say "america is an empire."

Not sure who used it first but originally it was used to illustrate that the Roman Empire built the first major system of roads, which also allowed them to expand their empire by making travel easier.
In this vernacular, however, it's intended to show how we can't avoid going back to the original format, Western anyways, of being an empire.

I see that's a pretty wonderful explanation. I think it totally applies to today's societies in ways, like America.

True. Only the "civilized" nations even have adequate road systems, if we're being literal, which, incidentally, helps keep the third world in such a s**t condition. Kinda hard to build a structured society if there's no basic infrastructure. But it's also not flashy enough for anyone to bother with. Giving vaccines to African villages is a good soundbite, building them roads or sewers, not so much.
Now, metaphorically, New York has often been labeled the new Rome, and in many ways it is. Most of the world's trading is done there, and thus, the seat of wealth resides in Wall Street. Invariably, the smallest, most minute advanced proceed only via the whim of stock traders. One can hardly become a major corporation if one is bought out and gutted to make a quick payday. Such is life. Always has been, always will be. Unfortunately, as I'll likely be explaining in numerous threads from hereon, we've reached a technological point where we should've phased out monetary systems a while ago, which is the true reason why the global economy is in the toilet. This simply won't happen, however, so long as "Rome" holds sway.
Wealth is control. Control is power.

Too true, babe, too true indeed. All a matter of perspective. Half full/half empty, etc etc.

Haha, his name was censored.
