Welcome to Gaia! ::

Just an interesting thing I noticed: you never hear about the vicious argument between evolutionists and Buddhists, or evolutionists and Wiccans. Why is that? Don't all these other religions care about this stuff? Christians seem to be the only ones who care that evolution is being taught. It doesn't just conflict with christianity. It conflicts with buddhism and hinduism and all those others, doesn't it? Why only christians? ninja
I don't bash Christians, thankfully. I just hate anyone who brings religion where it doesn't belong (science, politics, etc.). Whether they be Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, Islam, etc. etc. It just so happens to frequently be Christians.
I don't bash christians. I bash ignorant and/or closed-minded people. It just happens that most of them are christian. Coincidence.
The Trickster
Nice work generalizing anarchists, atheists, and everything else that isn't christian as immature angst teenagers, by the way. You'll only get respect from your fellow christians if you continue like that.
The generalization was of Gaia...not of society. And as far as I've seen it, the Gaian community is composed of mostly teenagers.

Quote:
Some of those children who are starving in africa wouldn't be born if the parents had access to protection, which christians don't allow. They encourage more children.
Speaking of generalizing...Christians believe in birth control. Catholics don't believe in it but other Christian denominations do. Of course they prefer abstinence but don't completely hate birth control. I'm a Christian...and I'm on birth control. eek

Because we're not afraid to voice our opinions...

Again, a generalization. All Christians aren't close-minded. I'll agree that alot of the older, southern Christians and Baptists to be more specific, are closed-minded. Try being open-minded about what they have to say too.

By the way, what religion are you? If you don't believe in Christianity your sig makes absolutely no sense...heathens are part of the Christian religion. Hmm...
smile
You know, it would take a lot of guts from someone to blurt out their feelings like that...
Great job. A couple of my friends are Christian, and by all means, religions in general should be respected.

Thanks. It's about time somebody stood up and said something.
Well said, mysheli.
True Christians are good. Those who say they are Christian but who are not are the real problems.

This is just what I think.
Christianity is not going to church. It is not quoting the bible whenever possible. Its is not telling everyone you are a Christian.
A Christian should not hurt people. They should love their neighbors as themselves. (This includes people of other faiths and other countries and not starting wars on other countries without a good reason) They should look after the world that god created and respect it.
Ok, heres the Bush bashing, but you invited it.
Bush is not a real Christian. He poses as one but does not act as one. He is a hypocrite. (An example close to my heart is him not signing the Kyoto protocol. Apart from him not looking after our planet as we were instructed to do, he did it for the good of the US economy. That is selfishness and greed. There was no other reason. Climate change has been proved real a thousand times and stopping it is out of the scientists hands and into the politicions hands. Excuse my diversion)

True Christians are brilliant people. As are true Muslims and any of the other major world faiths. They all have the same hope and similar rules (to different degrees) It is just the same idea with a different story line and different ways of showing it.
All religions are good, when followed the right way. Its is when bad things are done in the guise of religion that they become bad.

And on a different note it isnt the Christians that are trying to teach creationism. Sorry but its only the Americans that do this. Its in hundreds of other countries but all the other countries are getting better. Sorry but you are posibly the only country on this planet going backwards. There is lots of good people in America but there is a lot of corrupt, greedy politicians who just want the vote and dont do whats right but do what will get them votes.
Ok, you made a few generalizations in your post. I personally hate religion all together and I think that the most powerful coroporation in the world is the Catholic Church. But I dont bash on people for following the religion or for following any religion. I personally hate what our government has become but I know that anarchy doesnt work because someone always usurps power and then forms their own totalitarian government. Then I dont care that the line "One nation under God" is in the pledge of allegience, i recite the original pledge since that line was not added until the 50's during the cold war to make it seem as if "God" was on our side. Personally I will just not follow any religion and I am myself I dont need to dress in all black to fit in or anything, I dont care that most people hate me for that but whatever, I wear button up shirts and jeans and I like them. I will probably declare myself a Soviergn person after I buy a house that I would want to spend the rest of my life in, then I dont have to worry about being associated with this government. (If ou dont know what a soviergn person is, sorry if i misspelt it, then go look it up.)

Edit: Sorry I forgot to say why I hate religion. All that religion is for is explaining the unexplainable and a system of control.
mysheli
...heathens are part of the Christian religion. Hmm...

Could you please explain that to me?
I agree with your view mysheli, a lot of times, people just form the habit of "Bashing" Christians, a lot of times they also tend to forget the good things christians have done, and the act of a true christian,
There are some Organisations who call themselves christian organisations but make up rules of their own and Opress it on others, many people tend to look at this then generlise on all christians even with the ones that opose these certian organisations.
My answer is, if you want to see what a tru christian is like, read the bible.

I have been on Gaia now for about a year and a half with the exception of about a six month absence. I’ve always been an EDer and am always sure to take time to look a variety of threads ranging from ridiculous to just plain stupid. But, if you search my posts I have never started my own topic. Never. Not once. Well here you go. It’s my turn to reply to all of you imbeciles. My virginity is about to be stolen.

It's not a good idea to start off a post with the above bolded part, especially when you're trying to tell people about something you believe.

mysheli
Christianity. There are many different denominations of it but it is all evil. Every single one. Catholics, Baptists, Presbyterians and even the followers who have no denomination are evil. How do I know this? Well it must be true! Here are just a sample of topics in Extended Discussion:

Religion: Possibly the cause for everything bad on earth?
Religion, GET OUT OF SCIENCE CLASSES!
Christian Music Ads

Now if you read the topics that talk about “religion” they are typically bashing Christians.

I can't speak for the first or third thread, but I do know the second; in that case, it's true that religion has no place in science class. There's no debating the matter.

mysheli
I know that the huge axis of evil Christianity has created is engulfing the earth but why must everybody scream it from the rooftops?

Last I checked, we're not. Quit putting words in people's mouths and generalizing.

mysheli
Oh wait! I know why…the people who are saying this are pissy little teenagers trying to rebel and be an individual. Yeah right….be an individual.

Proof? Or are you just saying this to make yourself feel better?

mysheli
...a bunch of bullshit generalizations...

Please.

mysheli
Christians come to your door and force you to listen to them talk about this evil, horrible God. They’re just pretending to give you hope so they can burn it all to the ground.

Wait, it's okay for Christians to discuss their faith, but we can't discuss our lack? Mmm. That's good hypocrisy.

mysheli
...more irrelevant bullshit overgeneralizations...

mysheli
And that crap about our nation being based on Christianity and God? What a load of bull!

From the Treaty of Tripoli, signed by the United States in 1796 (note the bolded part):

Quote:
As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

mysheli
I bet you who ever wrote “One nation under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance was just dyslexic…he probably meant to write dog.

Actually, that was added in 1954 in response to the fear of atheist Communism.

mysheli
Let’s not forget the wicked Christian charities: The Salvation Army, Feed the Children, Warm Blankets Orphan Care International. The Salvation Army...always trying to steal your money at Christmas time. They probably give it to stupid homeless people who don’t have food or something like that. Who needs Feed the Children? The starving kids in other countries should have to find food themselves! And don’t even bring up Warm Blankets…those kids are orphans for a reason. The small churches who give food to hungry families are just as horrible. Why slip a small bible in with a box of food? The people just want the food!

I'm sorry, when did anybody say that to criticize Christianity? Or are you making up more bullshit?

mysheli
Seriously, why is it horrible to be Christian? I understand that everyone has the right to choose their own religion and I respect that. But, you don’t have the right to speak negatively about us and put us all in a bad stereotype.

Actually, we do have the right to speak negatively about you, but stereotyping is still bad. You should probably stop doing it yourself.

mysheli
There isn’t a thing wrong with wanting to show compassion to people less fortunate. What about the groups who hate the Christians? Have you heard about them helping out? I haven’t heard about Pissy Teenagers Full of Angst helping anybody.

The Camarilla, full of goth angst, is a charity. That's one.

mysheli
The Atheists Food Program…haven’t seen them in the news lately.

Probably because unorganized charity isn't very newsworthy.

mysheli
And I can’t forget about Anarchists for the Homeless…wait a minute, yes I can. They don’t exist.

That's a baldface goddamn lie. Never heard of Food Not Bombs?

mysheli
My point is simply that you don’t have to agree with my religion but you can at least appreciate the good that Christians have done for the world.

Fine. But we can also criticize for the evil Christians have done.

mysheli
We’re not perfect, we make mistakes. You sure as hell aren’t perfect either.

Completely irrelevant and does nothing to get Christianity off the hook.

mysheli
If you don’t like our religion, turn the other way!

I have spam blockers for spam and caller ID for telemarketers. What do I have to tell Christians to leave me the hell alone?

mysheli
Ask the people who knock on your door to politely leave.

I don't want them there in the first place.

mysheli
You don’t even have to donate to our charities!

If you pay taxes in the United States, you do.

mysheli
And by the way, anarchy would never work so you little teeny boppers need to quit bashing Bush. You have the right to your opinion but “bush sux!!!111!1!!11” isn’t one. Grow up and learn the issues. Until then, shut the hell up.

I think I'm about as well-informed on the issues as one can be. Could you explain to me why anarchy would never work, and how it's relevant to your point?

PS: it's stereotyping to propose that all anarchists are immature.

mysheli
What do I want? I want respect. That’s it. Don’t agree with me just respect me. I’m a 19 year old female white Republican Christian college student living in sin with my boyfriend. I have a dirty mouth with a horrible cursing habit. I’m not perfect. I’m not the perfect Christian.

BUT, I’m not bashing you.

You just spent this entire thread doing just that. Maybe if you didn't misinterpret statements and blow everything out of proportion, you might have some credibility.

mysheli
I’m not degrading you because you’re Jewish or Arab. I’m not even laughing at you because you think “bush sux” and anarchy is the way of the future. Give credit where it is due: Christians help the world.

And they also rape, murder, and destroy. You have to accept the bad if you're also going to take credit for the good.

mysheli
Grow up and quit bashing the Christians. They’ve done a hell of a lot more than you have. Give us a break damnit.

Again, more generalization and overstatement.
Christians have helped the world a lot. I'm not a Christian, but I won't say that all of Christianity is evil. But it's ridiculous to say that all of it is good. Some people think Bush is doing good by following his Christian beliefs and trying to stop gay marriage and stem cell research and abortion. Other people say he is doing it all wrong. I think he's ignoring what was so important to the founders of our country: separation of church and state. They wanted a nation free from religious persecution and the church's control.
There are so many horrible, evil people who use Christianity as an excuse. They would say, "I'm a Christian, so nothing I do can possibly be wrong." And I'm not just guessing. I've met these people. It's disgusting.
Please don't act like all atheists are bad people. I don't have any religion at all, but I am a good person. Believe me or don't, but I know that my morals are far, far stronger than many Christians'. And not all teenage atheists are stupid goth kids trying to rebel and be different. Plenty of them are, but not all. Some really are intelligent, and became atheists out of a thoughtful and perhaps even informed decision. That is their right.

I do, however, hate that everyone feels the need to attack any belief that isn't their own.
