Welcome to Gaia! ::

I will agree wholeheartedly that many people are overzealous. It is annoying. Even being a Christian I still have Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses come knocking on my door telling me that I need to find God...even though I already found Him. It gets on my nerves too...even when I go to churches of my own religion! I do have to give them some credit, I know I couldn't go to people's houses and bug them like that.

And yeah, there's the weird ones who yell and scream about going to Hell if you don't change your ways. I bet you twenty bucks that they're probably the ones that are going to Hell. One of the main principles of Christianity is to not be judgemental. Alot of modern Christians have failed in that.
Random tibbit of information;

The Vatican has not actually called an end for the Crusades, so if all of a sudden Christians decided one day they want to kill people of other religeons and stick their heads on pikes in the name of Christianity, they're free to do so by the Vatican 4laugh

First of all, you're right. I was stereotyping. Why? Because it's typically a correct stereotype. If you're a middle aged man who doesn't believe in God, that's fine. My stereotype was referring to Gaia...and I'm just about positive it's true.

Second, if a religious group is going to spend their time, money and effort it's their choice. I think they have the right. And yes, the missionaires did spread the word of God. Apparently you were told of a different type. All cultures are unique and interesting! Just because they have the same religion doesn't mean that you can't be unique. Religion is just one of the many facets of a culture. To top it off, nobody forces you to be any religion. It's your choice.

So it's justified for you to stereotype a group of people you've never met but if I say "Many people use religeon to justify hatred" I'm being predjudice towards christians?

And I still don't agree. Why can't they fund the work without religeous attatchment. Why can't they put their money into something knowing that they've helped people and not have to have "OMFG CHRIZTIANZ HELPING TEH POOR" plastered all over it. And while it may have imporved a lot now, historically, these people entered 'primative' cultures with impressive new technology and used that as a tool to convert. You can do your charity work, but I don't see why you have to talk to them about your god as you do it.
Thank you. I agree.
I'll pray for you...

So, you've made you're religeous choice and others shouldn't bother you about it but it's ok for them to bother me about my choice?

Christians help the world.

How about the story of Noah's Ark in which God kills every single human being on Earth but Noah and his wife. I can see maybe about half but every single one but two people, come on that's not very nice.

Adolf Hitler was raised a Catholic and although he did not attend church he was still a follower (assumed from his quotes).

I believe today that I am acting in the sense of the Almighty Creator. By warding off the Jews I am fighting for the Lord's work. [Adolph Hitler, Speech, Reichstag, 1936]

I believe today that my conduct is in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator. [Adolph Hitler, Mein Kampf, pp. 46]

This human world of ours would be inconceivable without the practical existence of a religious belief. [Adolph Hitler, Mein Kampf, pp.152]

I could gave you more stories about how Christianity and or Christians haven't been all that helpful or kind.
As I said before, nobody's perfect and there are quite a few nutcases out there. But please, I'm still waiting to hear about what Aetheists are doing to help anybody!

You're right. That wouldn't be very nice... however you're wrong so it doesn't matter. Noah and his wife were not the only two humans on board >.>
Very true...there were his kids and their wives as well.

I'm an athiest, I donate money to charity and I'm a sicentist so I may one day take a more direct role by contributing to finding a cure for a disease or something. But I don't need to tell people how much of an athiest I am and how athieism is the only true and moral path while I'm doing it.

It's our privilege I suppose. Christians are supposed to try to spread the word of God and right there is a good method. If you don't like it get the people of your religion or what ever you believe to go help people and don't use any type of religious attachment. It's your choice...just like it's our choice.

"OMFG CHRIZTIANZ HELPING TEH POOR"
...that's just flat out ridicuous. Show me where anything doing with Christianity has "OMGF" associated with it. Geez.

How many were there, anybody? I thought it was Noah, his wife and two of each animal.

I didn't say that. I take it with a grain of salt. I respect them for at least trying and politely tell them I have my own beliefs. I respond tactfully.

Defensive much? She's saying that these people are annoying. Period. She's made her religious choice, and you've got yours. They shouldn't be harrassing anyone.

I'm glad you donate to charity and such. I commend you on having the intelligence to be a scientist. Trying to spread our religion is part of Christianity. If it's not part of Athiesm it's you and your religions choice.

OMGSTOPNOTCOOL.

That's not even funny. Plenty of atheists participate in charities and other such services to the poor. They can be kind, loving people, which is more than I can say about some Christians.

If you're complaining so much about stereotypes, how about you stop stereotyping, yourself?
