Welcome to Gaia! ::

Economies, whether digital or tangible, are ruled by the individual powers which govern them.
Gaia, unfortunately, seems to be run by a bunch of dunder heads.
Currently there are more than a 'few' problems that plague Gaia.
You see, since January, Gaia's marketing specialists have implemented a plan which bombards users with announcements multiple times a day about special Gaia cash deals, limited time items, and chance items which repackage older, expensive items. And let's not even mention the '03 fire sales that happen every once in a blue moon that have devalued the cost of any worthwhile items including DJ Studio headphones and even the Angelic Halo.

The result of this ridiculousness is, has been, and will continue to be, the statistically proven decline in the value of Gaia Gold (GG).

In the past few months, GG has been devalued to 1/10th of what it was once worth.
In other words, one GG from October of 2013 is equivalent to roughly 10 GG today. That's a very significant increase.

Imagine if the USD or Pound increased ten fold in value! Not only would the wealth gap that is fairly evident today in actual society become more prevalent, however it would be near impossible for individuals without any money to become more wealthy.

In contrast, the value of Gaia cash has gone up to completely incalculable amounts because of the still significant increase by the day in the value of Gaia cash and the items that are purchased with it, save for the old '03 mcs and other MCs that have the displeasure of being rereleased as a way for Gaia to cop a quick buck.

I've been studying the trends in the Gaian economy since roughly December for my economics thesis because it mirrors so perfectly what would happen should the value of the USD be devalued so thoroughly.

Other problems that have risen from Gaia's money grab -
- Inflation of all items not available in gold shops
- The ability of a single user to inflate the price of a single item in a day
- Inability to earn a worthwhile amount of gold from other practical means on the site
- Disappearance of stability in price in all items

There are other problems, and although, in general it's not that serious, it's still awesome to watch, if you understand my platform.

Have you taken advantage of the crisis plaguing Gaia! When will the admins increase the amount of pending announcements to above 10! Will it ever end!!!

I stopped logging in for a few years. Last I was a regular I was rather "rich."
Now I could maybe afford one or two items that previously cost only a few thousand gold.

Example: today I logged in and received a notice that an item on my Wishlist that previously sold for 15k gold was listed on the auction house for 791k

Star

I have not spent a single cent of my mortal money in all the years I've been on Gaia.

And thank god. Greedy, greedy people are in charge of this site now...

Dedicated Squatter

the economy here is so bad that i hear it get discussed on other sites more often than here.
i've had this account for six years and when i last seriously logged in, i was still considered fairly wealthy with around 9 mil. that's chump change now, and i can hardly afford any of the items that i put on my wishlist before i left.

i sincerely doubt gaia will last much longer when the inflation rate on almost every item in the marketplace is this dreadful. not that it matters. i'm confused as to why anyone is still here at all to begin with.

Greedy Consumer

LOL
Go hoard your little gold
type premiumci in the marketplace, buy something not very old, for all your gold significantly below the abp then sell it slightly above the average buy price, or wait for it to inflate before selling it

if the economy is bad, you can still exploit it, because if it does inflate like everyone says u should get a cheap item expensive then sell it

Huge example of this is kitten star. I purhcased one a few months ago for 12 mil. Now it's at...ehm...wat? I think increase of 2000%?

Definitely taking advantage of this price volatility though and artificially inflating items if I can. Why? OH YOU'RE SO EVIL INFLATING ITEMS!!!111!!! Am I? I'm not the one purchasing them at the higher price. And really all I'm trying to do is not let my net value get inflated away by market irrationality.

Also, another way taking advantage of it, is NOT ALL ITEMS are ridiculously high. Some were idiotically low. For instance, mercury's moon. Selling for 1.5mil a couple days ago??? I realize maybe it got re-released with some of the ci's, but it is absolutely not worth that little. Snapped some up then, and it's already around 3mil. I expect much further than that, but hey we'll see. It is speculation after all.

People also need to know when to cash out though. Because if for instance inflation stops, and deflation takes over, all your items will go down in value. And while you will be worth the same as you were before, you missed out on some good profit.

What gaia needs to do, is create and attractive gold sink such as a lottery that's will give out a good sum of gold, but also deletes say 50mil (or something else) of the total put into it, and also STOP releasing idiotic gold generator CI's and stick to NORMAL CI's which give out interesting, new items that the market determines the value of.

Tipsy Man-Lover

The irony with this thread is that I got a golden trunk as soon as I clicked on it.

Tipsy Man-Lover

I remember buying my first ever quest item, Staff of the Angels, for only 23,000 gold many, many years ago. Gaia sucks now.

It's parabolic bitchez.

I'm just trying to vend. Understandably, they want to make money, but the way the Gaia creators are making it is barely even defined as "earned money". It's ridiculous. I forgot the name of the item, but it has a quantity of 100 and is 19 USD. You can make billions off of it, for 19 USD. Gaia, get your act together.

Hallowed Lunatic

I am glad that I am not the only person who noticed this. It seems that gaiaonline within the past 2 years has really gotten greedy. The inflation is ridiculous. That is why since then, I don't come on very often, Once in a month or so. I dunno.

I'm wondering when they will see that this is driving people away instead of making them profit.

And I wonder when the market is going to crash. lol,
I just....I just don't understand the logic behind these decisions. Yesterday the GC 10% discount was extended 3 hours, only to have it reduced to 12% off today. 3 extra hours to trick people into spending that extra 2%. Why even bother having a sale on something if its always on sale?

Isn't this pretty much exactly what Zimbabwe did? Just continue to print money until you have a need to print a 100 trillion dollar bill.

Whats the point of having a CS when you have GC items in the regular shops?

Whats the point of GC items when theres nothing special about them?

They need to get rid of money generators, and add in a major money sink. Like a 50/50 lotto or something.
