Tattoos in the political world.

Why is it that the stereotype of anyone who has a tattoo is some kind of
unreliable figure?

One of the three sitting presidents to only ever get a nobel peace prize was Teddy Roosevelt,
him and his mom had tattoos replicating their
love for their nation. (A flag and tomahawks or something)

I just don't get it. Furthermore Huffington post wants to lump in this Czech candidate who's tattooed head to toe with a porn star?

That doesn't connect with me; yeah I get why you wouldn't want a porn star running as a representative.

I don't think a man should be judged on how he looks, but by his actions. And the same goes for a woman as well.

Well, what do you guys think? And don't worry opinions can change over time. smile

Perhaps tattoos are seen as rash decisions by people who fear their permanence?

Can you elaborate? And is that more of your perspective?

The reason I got my tattoo for my mother was to commemorate her when she died.

And I don't fear the permanence of it at all, the permanence is what I needed.

A perceptual superficial judgment on someone's appearance to judge how rash they are, isn't a viable method of determining someone's behavior..plenty of people who don't have tattoos are already rash enough, say Morsi of Egypt. lol

I'm trying to guess at the thought process. I figure that many people would not like to get tattoos because they are a very permanent sort of thing, and they may project that uncertainty onto others. The opposite of their own caution would be carelessness, in a very simplistic, instinctual mindset.

But I'm no psychologist.

With all due respect I think that speculation is off the mark.
Tattoos are a really personal subject I suppose.

It's comforting to know however that at least a United States president and his mother did have tattoos in the early history of America. Perhaps it wasn't as many tattoos as Czech representative but still.

My point trying to be you shouldn't judge an individual upon how he or she looks.

Well, that's just my best guess. I can't really speak for others since I've never really listened much to the opinions of those who dislike tattoos. Why do you think people dislike them?

You just essentially said "Yolo."
Which isn't entirely wrong, but people can tattoos for more reasons than just that.

Of course there are more reasons. I'm trying to look through the eyes of simpletons*.

You can't justify your mistake with empathy. How dishonest of you. neutral

Mistake? I'm confused.

(Also, I'd like to clarify that simpleton thing preemptively because I'm certain someone will take that differently from how I meant as well. I'm referring to peoples' opinions on tattoos in general, not necessarily opinions on specific tattoos.)

Your intentions bear no effect on what you actually said. Then say what you mean instead of trying to be poetic.
You're not talking about peoples general opinion, if you we're you would have actually made a sound generalization instead of just "YOLO."

Fanatical Zealot

This is why Joe Biden got a tattoo, so as to ease the attention of tattoos. : P

Look, the topic creator asked why people dislike tattoos on political figures, and I gave my best guess.

My guess is that people who don't understand tattoos probably focus on their permanence more than anything. People may fear such a permanent decision and project their own uncertainty onto those who are certain about their decision. Thus, what may be a wise decision to the person getting the tattoo may be seen as careless by somebody who fears such permanent decisions.

If there's any dishonesty here, it's saying I dislike tattoos. I don't. Maybe my grammar needs less algebraic format...

I'm looking, and it still doesn't settle why you claimed your opinion to not be an opinion and a general thought that should be indicative of a specific population of people with tattoos.

Are you trying to misunderstand my posts? 'cause I thought I spelled it out pretty well there.

I'm guessing as to why people dislike tattoos because I don't know for sure. I can't be certain of other peoples' opinions, so I do not claim that this is fact.

I am not saying anything about [people with tattoos]. I am saying something about [people who say things about people with tattoos]. I don't know if I can say it more simply than that.

I am with the OP; in agreement, mutual understanding, alliance, cahoots. I think the OP is right to question this behavior of questioning people with tattoos.
