well, last year I couldn't find any Kwanzaa cards with Whites on them or Kwanzaa wrapping paper that wasn't derived from African textiles so I guess we're even.

One fake holiday for another seems fair.

Do you understand what Kwanzaa is?

Thirsty?

Yes:
No:
Racism is EVERYWHERE, EVERYONE is a little or alot racist whether subconsciously or consciously. Some of your comments are racist. Holloween is not even suppose to be "celebrated" as a holiday in the first place(but that's another argument). Now, holloween is not racist, how can it be? It's a "holiday" not a person. The people who makes and advertises the costumes are racist. Just my opinion.

The Whites I know from Africa can't honor their heritage too?

It's a holiday. Not a person. Can a holiday be racist? The holiday doesn't even know what racism is. Are people racist? Yes, it's everywhere. Don't blame the holiday. Blame the people.

This.

What you've pointed out, original poster, is that the people making premade costumes, who are not halloween, are supporting a racist point of view, not that the halloween is in itself racist.

You've also, of course, pointed out that Spencer's, by intention or otherwise, supports that point of view, but anybody who's walked into the store could tell you that (despite their huge stock of interesting shiney things). Does this mean that they're evil? Uh-uh. It might be the only stock they have to pick from.

However, if you go into a real costuming shop, which will always do better business on halloween, you'll find items like caps, dancers' belts, uni/leotards/etc. in any skintone you could want because their business is costuming for people no matter what the race?

The conclusion: Spirit is a really crappy costume shop. It's not something that you can intelligently judge the entire institution of Halloween upon.

Leave me notes or something if you like something I say! :3
I don't see it racist at all. I just see it as someone overreacting.

Interesting but not to the point that something needs to be done. Also take into account that through marketing research they discovered, hypothetically speaking, that whites were more likely to buy a costume from the store and blacks were more likely not if they did it was the pimp. Something like that.

Proof that whites are more likely to buy a costume? Are you implying blacks are too poor to afford costumes?
It's a statistical fact that a majority of people living in poverty are minorities. I'm not saying it should be that way-only that is really is a fact.

White people have more advantages in education which allows them to get higher paying jobs. (This is the AVERAGE, I know there are some poor white people and some rich minority people)

So as a retailer, wouldn't it make sense to try to sell to people who would be more likely to have enough extra money to buy an outfit they'll only use once?

So, exactly why should it matter? Are minorities less likely to buy a costume because it has a white person as the model on the front? "Oh, I guess its not for me, I'm not white like the model". Should we raise a fuss for the prejudice against overweight people too, seeing as there aren't as many costumes who's models are overweight? It seems that the only people who are really racist are the people who claim the racism in the first place for noticing such a stupid thing.

No, but the costume stores obviously have a lot to answer for.

Its weird - when I think of pimps I imagine blokes from eastern europe or something. Probably something to do with all that human trafficking and s**t you hear about.

"Merry Christmas, You Filthy Animal."

You're saying Halloween is racist because it supports costume designers who follow stereotypes (Black pimp) in their work. Excluding that it might have just been the specific store and the area as the cause to the white skin, I'll go ahead and say this.

By saying that Halloween is indeed racist because it supports racist designers means that Earth is racist because it supports human beings, and every city is racist because it supports human beings, food, tools, air, other people ('see tools), the universe, all natural and man-made laws are racist ect. ect.

I'm not buying it.

My head fell off. I'm rather self conscious about it.

So, for the past month I've been working at a Spirit Halloween store (seasonal-only store owned by Spencer's Gifts that sells Halloween costumes and some accessories). Not until the day before Halloween did I notice how incredibly racist it really is. Now bear with me, really think about it for a minute, while I bring up some key points that helped me realize this.

All of the sexy adult costumes feature white girls on the package.

The humor costumes are all white...
...even the ones depicting racists costumes.
Kids costumes?
Yep, every model is WHITE.

Second point:
Even accessory costumes are made for Caucasian skin only.
Every latex injury or skin attachment, WHITE.
Every bald cap or wig with bald skin, WHITE!

There is ONE group of costume and accessories that contained black people. Care to take a guess?
Pimps.

So, ED, with all your up-at-arms attacks on other things that might or could be called racist, why overlook the obvious: Halloween is RACIST!

That doesn't make the Holiday racist. That makes the company you buy your costumes from, racist.

Halloween itself is not racist as it was based on pagan/druidic beliefs.

I've seen plenty of white guys buy pimp outfits from Halloween stores. I've also seen "redneck" costumes for sale. It's not just black stereotypes that are portrayed.

Stereotypes comes in all colors when it comes to costumes. Banditos, Native American (with half the female costumes in the slut category), geisha girl, etc. It seems that costume companies are pretty much equal opportunity stereotypers. Even the playboy costumes could be considered offensive to some as they objectify women as sex objects. There are nerd costumes complete with pocket protectors, buck teeth and big glasses to go with the high water pants. I've even seen one that had the wearer as dinner in a cannibal's pot (ok, I had to buy that one, it was funny).

Also, even though the models may be white, I haven't seen it stop blacks or people of other races, from buying the costume. If you're looking for a way to solve it, you will be hard-pressed. People of various colors will buy these costumes. If you want to see more people of color modeling, then maybe a petition or letter-writing campaign to the manufacturers.

liberals always whine and want to ruin everything. stop trying to take away our holidays by pulling you're race card.

THANK YOU.

However, being as critical commentary directed at liberals & liberalism is unpopular, you're going to be flamed.
