there are about 7 white people at my school. the rest are hatian, african american, or latino. no one else.

i hear the word n****r pop up so much, in class, at lunch, after school, on the activity bus, in the hallways... it's rediculous.

"ey, n***a, wheah you goin'?"
"ey, n***a, whass good?"

i swear, i've not heard a white student, none of the seven say that word. and i've talked with them about it. i asked them how they felt that the minorities can say it, but if they say it they'll get offended and send they're posse to jump them.

they weren't even concerned with it being unfair or anything. they didn't want to use the word, because they recognized the power in the word. they knew the history of the word, and were surprised that some didn't, and that those that did still used it.

discuss:
the 'n' word.
people who use it.
how do you feel about it?
do you use it?
whatever else you find to discuss about it.

I don't use the word. I don't like the word. And I do get offended when people use the word. But, in your quotes, you said "n***a" not "n****r" (oops, I used the word). There is a difference between those words. One word is sort of like a friendly word that you can use with your peers and what not, the other word is a harsh word with a very harsh background. Okay, well that's all I have to say abot that. Bye biggrin
If you're still offended by the word, you need to let go of the past. Very few people are actually racist nowadays, but the constant suspicions that we are based on the smallest nuances of our behavior and vocabulary does bring back the racial tension.
people who use it.
I think that people that use it are ignorant, black or white.
how do you feel about it?
I don't like the word and I don't say it. It is one of the very few words I don't say. I think it is acceptable to use it in creative artistic expression such as the John Lennon song Women are the Niggers of the World.
do you use it?
Nope

is not "n***a" a variation of the word "n****r"? yeah, exactly.
