@ Heartfout: If the Church was founded by Jesus, then the teaching authority of the Church does have the right to say who is and is not in heaven. That is clearly stated in the Bible.

If you don't believe it, then so what? blaugh Heartfout, do you believe in God and in Heaven?

What scriptures give this authority to the Church to speak for Jesus and God? What is God's name?

The Gospel of John. Why do you inquire the name of God?

Because in the original transcripts, His name is mentioned of 6,800 times. So, you should know this quite easily. As well as explain why so many pagan holidays are celebrated.

This is hardly a problem if you are not a Jehovah's Witness or Scrooge. The PUritans did away with all the Holy Days which is why Old Ebenezer was a devout Protestant when he refused to celebrate that Humbug.

So you're saying God doesn't have a name, merely a title.

Is this your question? confused God has many names JHVH Gyra etc. Why is this of particular interest to you? God reveals God to us via the Incarnation, the "word of God" which is Jesus the Christ.

Heartfout if it were really just about having a key to a gate in Heaven that would be pretty silly considering that Heaven is not a place.

also why would a gate in heaven need binding "on earth?"

Dunno, but why are you saying you have Peter's power?

Joe, before you were quite impatient and indignant that I could not insta-reply your "questions" but as I have explained I cannot sort your questions from your color commentary it is needful that you ask them to me in a gentlemanlike manner. Please do man up and ask me. Do not hide from the light of knowledge, my good man.

Peters' authority not power. All grace and power come from God, through Christ who bestowed his authority upon the founding of his Church. He also said that the miracles Jesus performed and greater would be performed by the Church.

But that isn't what the passage says. It says that Peter will be able to bind what is on Earth and what is in Heaven; says nothing about the Church being able to.

Just a comment on Saint Bernadette. Her face and hands are covered with a wax covering...
catholic.org

"Bernadette died on 16th April 1879. Her body was buried in the small chapel dedicated to St.Joseph, within the convent grounds. In September of 1909, Bernadettes body was exhumed, as part of the process leading to her eventual canonisation. The hollowed-out tomb was extremely humid - her habit was very damp, the rosary held in her hands was rusted and her crucifix had turned green. Yet despite this, the body itself was perfectly preserved. Two further exhumations (in April 1919 and April 1925) were carried out. At the third , the skin was found to have discoloured slightly in places, due probably to exposure to the air following the forty-six years of burial. Because of this, the firm of Pierre Imans in Paris made light wax coverings for the face and hands

Heartfout, Peter is the Church at that point. neutral Peter and the twelve plus the disciples especially the Mary's and Martha, all the women. Jesus sent them (apostle means "those who are sent" wink to proclaim the Gospel, to bring good news to the captives. The church begins at this point and spread through the next 2000 years.

Thank you. The church values the remains of saints. To find someone in such good condition means that the reliquary is much larger and that the bones and other artifacts will not be distributed, but will remain in tact.

You have the cart before the horse, perhaps my dear. Recall that the Church is OLDER than the New Testament. It is the Church that wrote and sometimes culled the books of the New Testament. The Bible is to support the liturgy not to dictate what the church will do, although it is a central concern because nothing the Church says can be in contridiction with the tradiition or the overall meaning of sacred scripture.

Lokiogma's scholarly post put to rest the idea that the church was attempting to perpetrate a hoax with Bernadette.

So is BluecollarJoe finished with his fail against the Mother Church or is he just a coward now that he knows the level of scholarship he is up against? Hmmmm? I don't mean to be trolly but that exchange was very annoying and now he just slinks off rather than face his demons.

Heartfout, who is regularly challenging me showed much more courage and "balls" if she doesn't mind my saying so.

she acted with integrity in this discussion even though I do know she also has a very strong aversion to Roman Catholicism.

You really shouldn't make assumptions about why other people haven't responded. I'm going to assume that Bluecollar isn't tethered to his computer, and that just maybe, he has other things to do than sit around and obsessively reply to posts on this thread.
