@ Heartfout: If the Church was founded by Jesus, then the teaching authority of the Church does have the right to say who is and is not in heaven. That is clearly stated in the Bible.

If you don't believe it, then so what? blaugh Heartfout, do you believe in God and in Heaven?

What scriptures give this authority to the Church to speak for Jesus and God? What is God's name?

The Gospel of John. Why do you inquire the name of God?

Because in the original transcripts, His name is mentioned of 6,800 times. So, you should know this quite easily. As well as explain why so many pagan holidays are celebrated.

You are a Jehovah's Witness.

hardly. I smoke, drink and am quite adept at cussing a fool out. I also don't believe in Dogma, which is a driving force in the Catholic Church. I've been all over Italy and Jerusalem, as well as multiple other sites throughout the world.
But you still dance around the issue and questions. If you cannot question your own beliefs and be sure it correlates to the true words in the Bible, then what are you doing?
Have you ever read the Bible, or do you merely take what you are told from your Priest as gospel, never ensuring on your own that you and your children are following the true path to God?
Would you let someone direct your driving while you are blindfolded and driving down the interstate and they are safe at home watching on a camera? Because if you aren't willing to protect yourself and your children by reading the Bible on your own and doing your own research, when the end comes, what will you tell your kids if you were lied to and simply swallowed tripe?
I don't swallow what I am told. I want to know for myself.

JW can drink a little. So you have departed from the JW's but still retain your misinformation.

This is an expression of impatience for me to immediately satisfy your curiosity. I can only answer you so fast. I have a huge knowledge base on Christianity and related religions and I do know my own faith, sir.

Who says I do not question? I am an adult convert to Catholicism. I can be sure it correlates to the true words of the Bible, because for one thing, the Bible is a Catholic document.

I have studied the Bible since I was a little girl. I am now 54. Catholics regularly read through the entire Bible via the liturgy as it is read through and thorough over a three year period.

Woah! Slow down there cowboy! biggrin I am not going on any car ride like that one! Nor sir! I don't have that kind of faith nor would I wish to tempt God in such a way.

Well, if you are not a troll, then I can assure you that based upon what you have just spilled here that you have swallowed a lot of BS and you are so off base and excited, I am concerned you might have a stroke.

How about getting a cup of water or something and calming down first. I am not going anywhere.

You haven't answered a single question I've asked, just jumped around them to avoid them. I also thought I made it clear I am not a JW. Yes, I know they can drink. I also don't attend a Hall or any other religious institution. I've went to Mass, explored the Lutheran church (raised in it, in fact) Baptists and multiple other religions during my nearly five decades tromping around this mudhole.
But I am not part of any religious organization.
Are you going to answer the questions or dodge them?

Ignore my previous post then. You addressed the questions, and are content in your beliefs. That's fine. As long as you're content, go for it.
I don't consider my knowledge to be BS. I've come to it after decades of searching for what I sought.
Just wanted to make sure you were clear in your beliefs.

Ask the questions in order without the editorial commentary. I cannot tell where your questions begin and end with the extra color tossed in there.

Regarding idolotry. I did answer you accurately. The Children of Israel were not to make the graven images of the Eygptians they had left behind. We know God did not mean "any" images because he gave explicit instructions on the creation of the golden Cherubim and for the ornamentation of the ark of the covenant both of which were originally in a tent until Solomon could build the Lord's Temple.

No, you are saying that you wish to retain your ugly bigotry rather than have your eyes opened to what Catholics really believe. Stand and take it like a man. Next Question.

Can you quote where the church is given the power to know who is in heaven?

I have no more questions. I find the Catholics to be full of s**t to be blunt. But if that is what makes you happy, go for it. Celibate priests and other such things? I find those concepts ludicrous, as they were rooted in money and control, not Biblical teachings.
I am dodging nothing. I simply wanted to see where you stood. You're happy there, then all is well.

This is hardly a problem if you are not a Jehovah's Witness or Scrooge. The PUritans did away with all the Holy Days which is why Old Ebenezer was a devout Protestant when he refused to celebrate that Humbug.

Yes, when Jesus gives Peter the keys to the kingdom he says that he is giving the power to bind what is in heaven and on earth. Do you need the exact scripture or can you look up Matthew 16:16 and read down until you locate it, not far from there?

You have no questions because you foolishly believe you already know. But you are quite wrong as I will demonstrate. Can you stop editorializing and just pose the questions like a gentleman and I will behave properly too. I won't make snide remarks or accuse you of unfairness or bigotry.

Please narrow down your question because you have the celibate priesthood all balled up with money and control so I am not sure what you would have me address first.

So you're saying God doesn't have a name, merely a title.

EDIT: I thought this was a reference to Peter acting as the gatekeeper after death.

Try a different translation.

I googled the section from the Douey Rheims which is worded a lot like the King James as the same scholars helped each other with each.

13 And Jesus came into the quarters of Caesarea Philippi: and he asked his disciples, saying: Whom do men say that the Son of man is? 14 But they said: Some John the Baptist, and other some Elias, and others Jeremias, or one of the prophets. 15 Jesus saith to them: But whom do you say that I am?

16 Simon Peter answered and said: Thou art Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answering, said to him: Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-Jona: because flesh and blood hath not revealed it to thee, but my Father who is in heaven. 18 And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven. 20 Then he commanded his disciples, that they should tell no one that he was Jesus the Christ.

18 "Thou art Peter"... As St. Peter, by divine revelation, here made a solemn profession of his faith of the divinity of Christ; so in recompense of this faith and profession, our Lord here declares to him the dignity to which he is pleased to raise him: viz., that he to whom he had already given the name of Peter, signifying a rock, St. John 1. 42, should be a rock indeed, of invincible strength, for the support of the building of the church; in which building he should be, next to Christ himself, the chief foundation stone, in quality of chief pastor, ruler, and governor; and should have accordingly all fulness of ecclesiastical power, signified by the keys of the kingdom of heaven.

18 "Upon this rock"... The words of Christ to Peter, spoken in the vulgar language of the Jews which our Lord made use of, were the same as if he had said in English, Thou art a Rock, and upon this rock I will build my church. So that, by the plain course of the words, Peter is here declared to be the rock, upon which the church was to be built: Christ himself being both the principal foundation and founder of the same. Where also note, that Christ, by building his house, that is, his church, upon a rock, has thereby secured it against all storms and floods, like the wise builder, St. Matt. 7. 24, 25.

18 "The gates of hell"... That is, the powers of darkness, and whatever Satan can do, either by himself, or his agents. For as the church is here likened to a house, or fortress, built on a rock; so the adverse powers are likened to a contrary house or fortress, the gates of which, that is, the whole strength, and all the efforts it can make, will never be able to prevail over the city or church of Christ. By this promise we are fully assured, that neither idolatry, heresy, nor any pernicious error whatsoever shall at any time prevail over the church of Christ.

19 "Loose upon earth"... The loosing the bands of temporal punishments due to sins, is called an indulgence; the power of which is here granted.

21 From that time Jesus began to shew to his disciples, that he must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the ancients and scribes and chief priests, and be put to death, and the third day rise again. 22 And Peter taking him, began to rebuke him, saying: Lord, be it far from thee, this shall not be unto thee. 23 Who turning, said to Peter: Go behind me, Satan, thou art a scandal unto me: because thou savourest not the things that are of God, but the things that are of men. 24 Then Jesus said to his disciples: If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 25 For he that will save his life, shall lose it: and he that shall lose his life for my sake, shall find it.
