It was revolutionary to me. We truly removed the British and became one of the earliest, if not the first colony to be independent. We created a constitution which the world had not seen in those times. I mean, any revolution that succeeds deserves its respect, since overthrowing a governement is not an easy thing

Well, it was revolutionary in a sense that GW charged the British with his fellow men inside a Dodge Charger. biggrin

I didn't even crack a smile. Just post relevant s**t, it's easier.

Yeah, technically, it was a revolution. Even though not much changed. End of topic.

Not that much changed?

Ceasing the mercantile economic principles of the British Crown was absolutely necessary for allowing the emerging economies of the free colonies to survive.

The Brits had this idea (that we know now to be wrong) that the more exports you had and the more gold your nation accrued, the better off you were. The purpose of the colonies was to pump as much gold into England as possible without giving any real economic freedom to the colonies (internal trade was all that was allowed).

So throwing off that economic landlord was a drastic change, in my opinion.

Well yes. I'm sure the Brits were thoroughly flabbergasted that the colonist had the audacity to do what they did.

But in all seriousness, of course it was revolutionary. Life as we know it would most likely be totally different from the way it is now, if it weren't for our forefathers deciding that they didn't want to put up with the Motherlands bull crap anymore. Along with other points that other people in this thread are saying.
Why are we using revolution in (seemingly) two different senses? Are you asking if the Revolutionary War was something radical or innovative?

Fanatical Zealot

No.

We ended up in a completely different society than we would have, so we really didn't "revolve".

We just sort of moved.

I tried.

I don't feel like taking the internet seriously when that's not the point of its creation. 97% of all websites are porn related. How could anyone take the internet seriously with that statistic?

You literally just made that statistic up. What's more, the internet is the only place you're going to get the real news about what's going on here and abroad. If you actually care about things like freedom and the world and not being oppressed in the near future, it's kind of important.

Not many do, though. It's heavy s**t, I don't blame them.

Depending on what statistics you go by, the number ranges between 12%-97%

Um, I support authoritarian governments; even more so when they embody a Hierarchical Meritocracy.

That sounds like a lack of data to me. Let's just say that there are unfathomable amounts of porn on the internet. Though, it's not like anyone is going to tell you the truth on TV.

That's some Nazi s**t, sir.

I keep saying that it was a pretty bad move for everyone but the American gentry at the time.

We've turned out OK though, at least.

So, even in those days, government was ruled by business and military concerns were motivated primarily by money?

Completely different? Dude, how the ********? It's like everything you say is a lie. The society barely changed at all. Different rich mercantile masters, same rich mercantile methods.
Rose die Valkyrie

The apex of the American golden era post-WWII and pre-Cold War was a pinnacle of accomplishment, before the slow decline into military imperialism and fear propaganda.

Slow?

How so?

The news has a legal right to lie outright. Obviously, falsifying footage and information is not as bad as lying outright, so therefore, they can do that s**t too.

Right? He's completely ignoring the fact that you could walk around Toronto after spending your whole life in New Jersey and have 100% of people there treat you like a local.

They're under the british crown even to this day and I can't even hear an accent in most of their voices.

The American revolution is unique in that it spawned the first modern country. One in which everyone could freely be an entitled prat who thinks they're special enough to try and manipulate a forum to write their paper for them.

Before that, people either cheated with subversion, or did their own work.

The impact of this are still seen today.

May you spontaneously combust for this irrelevant post.

Actually, if we want to thank someone for helping us gain our independence, we should thank the East India Company. If it wasn't for the British government trying to keep them from going under, then we would of never gain the courage and anger to declare our independence. So, cheer to you, East India Company.

What if I said I wasn't lying?

Shouldn't that in turn tear a hole in the space time continuum?
