Yes, I never said it wouldnt be. I simply stated I cannot think of an art that uses guns as a weapon.

Ah, I see.

In that case, let's use the many arts the Samurai were well versed in.

Still dont see anything outside of their military training that used guns.

They learned how to use swords, didn't they? They learned to use guns in exactly the same way. Thus, if the training in swordsmanship can be considered a martial art, so can the training of marksmanship.

It was there. I'm looking for a name right now.

Find me a name and some history. If I am uneducated, please correct.

Bujutsu/Budo.

Either is an all-encompasing term that refers to any form of combat, and the skills learned to do it.

There, we've slapped a name on it, and have established that guns are a viable aspect of martial arts. 3nodding

I still maintain (from the last thread), that, despite the weeaboos' cries of ignorance, you can't just "say" that any one thing is either honorable or dishonorable, since, history has shown that, honor is subjective. What I find honorable, my neighbor may not.

On with the "coward" thing, there is no cowardess in any weapons' use, that isn't present in the use of ANY weapon. If you use a gun, you're a coward for giving yourself the advantage of ranged combat. If you use a sword, you're a coward for giving yourself a weapon, in the first place. Therefore, I profess that any use of ANY weapon, aside from one's own body, is an act of cowardess.

However, it's also true that a coward wins his fight. This is because the coward brushes off "honor" in favor of "intelligence". To illustrate, maybe you come running at me with a sword, yelling things about your honor, and I whip out a Glock and put your a** in the dirt before you can even tell what color my eyes are. Your honor didn't save you, did it? However, my intelligence DID save me, since I went with a much better choice of weapon, and, as it seems, had armed it with a good healthy level of practice and training.

Agreed with emphasis on this statement

I can't believe it died! All those beloved macros and absolute pwning, gone!

Anyway, I maintain my previous position. When two people use firearms the lethality is the same as two people using swords, only the distance changes. There's a reason why you go through training in the military and police academy, there's a reason you learn to take cover and use small unit tactics. You don't JUST pick up and shoot with a gun, not if your fighting a moving target.

And thus, the importance of google was learned this day.

i honestly think guns are for cowards. a samurai takes years and years to master the sword. it takes hard work and dedication, and discipline. they could cut a leaf in half in midair. now take guns for example. 18 year old boy joins the army practices for 6 months goes over and shoots hundreds of highly trained samurai because guns can kill at a distance. and these unskilled boys don't want to get too close to these highly skilled masters because they know they'll be slaughtered. now if that isn't cowardice i don't know what is.

So do guns. What do you think Delta Force does in their down time, sit around pciking their noses?

You've been watching a weee bit too much anime. That's possible, but I'm rather skeptical it was a norm.

********? What in god's name are samurai doing in IRaq/Afghanistan with terrorists? Please tell me this an extreme typo.

Nope, it wasn't. Learn2logic.

ED?IT: And as Dion said, the samurai used guns too. Guess they're cowards as well, huh?

Samurai had guns too, you know. Does that make them dishonorable?

You watch too much anime. Tell me, if I have a handgun, and the other guy has a handgun, how am I being a coward? Fact is, odds are very equal that he'll kill me, and if he's had, say, military or swat training, and I'm Sir Joe Random, I'm not going to make it. Not to mention that, as a sword collector, fencer, and someone who trains with broadswords, I think I have the authority to say that after six months you should have some idea of what you're doing. Swordsmanship is fast to learn but slow to master, same with guns.

On one note, I actually did cut a leaf in mid-air once. It was a total fluke, but still cool. xd

A good historical fencer would be able to do it with enough effort. The problem is that leaves don't always cut right, something they pretty much roll off or around the blade. Doing it with a katana is absurd, but something smaller and quick could do it.

Exactly. At six months, you probably have a handle on one style of fencing, or at least the basics of it. For guns, I'm not entirely sure, since I'm not a casual shooter.

Yup, we sure do.

I am, and I've got the track marks to prove it. biggrin

It took me about a day to learn what not to do when training to shoot. READ: I made some bad mistakes. neutral
