A "martial art" is any form of combat that can be taught or mastered. Marskmanship, technically, is a martial art of its own.

Here:
martial arts

–noun
any of the traditional forms of Oriental self-defense or combat that utilize physical skill and coordination without weapons, as karate, aikido, judo, or kung fu, often practiced as sport.
Also, martial art.

Here: http://www.martialinfo.com/

And thousands more just like it. Martial arts is any extension of tradiational oriental fighting styles.

That is a common meaning, but does not encompas other styles, such as European martial arts, which were just as well developed as the Asian forms.

"samurai" is not a martial art. Samurai were japanese soldiers.

And they used guns as part of their military prowess, the same way as they would use a bow or sword.

See above. Military training is not a martial art. Military soldiers may get martial arts training, but it is not a martial art.

So you're saying that learning the proper way to use a bow or a sword is not learning a martial art?

It does not have to be Oriental since the meaning is "arts of war". Mars being the Roman war god. It also does not have to be "traditional". MMA is also a Martial art, mixing things up can become a new "martial art". Lets say you where to some how mix Marksmanship and Swordsmanship (Not saying it is possible) and call it "theshootingswordido" it still would be considered a Martial art.

You misunderstand. Weapons are incorporated into martial arts. Some arts dont even use weapons. But a martial art is a traditional fighting style, and I concede to points above, every culture has its own martial art, not just oriental. But martial arts are a traditional fighting style. Military training is not a martial art. Samurai were versed in martial arts. Yes, they had a martial art they created, but its not samuri. And Jujitsu has nothing to do with guns. Again, a martial art is a traditional fighting style, whether combined or standing alone.

Military training* not per se. Military fighting (with any weapon or non at all) IS.

Martial arts literally means the art of war and what ever you learn more or less can be used in war. A fight is like a "mini war".

So logically, if a gun is incorporated into the martial art, it is considered a part of it?

In a very b*****d form of martial arts. And I dont consider MMA a true martial art form. I could knock the s**t out of an MMA fighter before they knew what hit them. MMA is just what came up when WWE wasnt allowed to show blood on TV anymore.

Yes, I never said it wouldnt be. I simply stated I cannot think of an art that uses guns as a weapon.

I disagree. I know someone who will as well. Its only smart to learn multiple martial arts and use them the best you can staying "pure" isn't always the smartest thing to do.

Ah, I see.

In that case, let's use the many arts the Samurai were well versed in.

Still dont see anything outside of their military training that used guns.

Oh I agree. Even my art is a mix of three different arts. My statement was purely on the whole MMA empire thing that popped up when wrestling became PG 13. UFC and MMA is a bastardization.

They learned how to use swords, didn't they? They learned to use guns in exactly the same way. Thus, if the training in swordsmanship can be considered a martial art, so can the training of marksmanship.

It was there. I'm looking for a name right now.
