Welcome to Gaia! ::

I wish my school had uniforms. It makes it look more professional. The girls here all wear the same things, anyways. Well the vast majority. Skinny jeans, a shirt and a hoodie. No creativity whatsoever. You can express yourself with accessories and hairstyles with a uniform. School's about education, not how you look. Twenty years from now it's not going to be about what you wore or how you looked, it's going to be about what you learned. neutral
Op - There's only one thing a girl is born with that can give her a free ride through life. Pregnancy and disease usually attend the use of it, though... Although I do suppose it lets you socialize.

You're a shallow, useless execrescence on the face of society, a faceless automaton that >thinks< she's creative and useful, but in the end is simply self-obesessed. I feel sorry for the people you inflict your presence upon, and any person unlucky enough to love you.
To clarify.
YourOwnDisasterx3

I'm talking about the majority of people. I wouldn't really want to be hanging out with someone who likes to dress a different style than me, so if I befriend them in school then find out that they dress different, it will completely alter my opinion of them. Thats why we shouldn't have uniforms, so we don't go making friends with people that we will regret making friends with.

So, as long as your friends choose your uniform, it's okay. But God forbid you make a friend based on who they are instead of what they wear...

OP--you are why people whine about how stupid and annoying teenage girls are. You've contradicted yourself multiple times in your own arguments. You don't care about your education, or give a damn what you do with your life; as long as it's social and fun. You say you don't care about work, or your future, as long as you get to dress how you want, hang out with your friends, and have fun. How are you going to pay for that when you become a legal adult and have to support yourself? If you don't bother to educate yourself you're not going to have any marketable skills. Nowhere "fun" will hire you--only menial entry-level jobs will even give you a chance. Think burger-flipping, house cleaning, manning a cash register, busing tables. Almost all of those jobs require you to wear a (often unflattering) uniform; and they require you to work instead of socialize. Since they take even more time out of your day than school, you will be left with far less social time.

I think it's about time you woke up and smelled the coffee, OP. Your parents aren't going to take care of you forever. School isn't all about socializing, it's about education--whether you're "into the whole education thing" or not. And what you wear is nowhere near the most important thing in your life.

Also--I agree with Schottenjaeger. Since uniforms remove clothing identifiers, they force you to actually talk to people to discover their basic interests

╔══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╗

Well, either way, I'm not concerned about that right now. Because I have a life.

And nobody wants to walk up to some random person to find out that they are the exact person you'd usually never be friends with. You can know who shares your interests by the way they dress. Like it or not, its a fact. You don't dress preppy and like screamo and skateboard. Its just the way things go.

╚══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝

Uh, you CAN dress preppy and like screamo and skateboard. I knew a few people like that. In fact, you can be gothic and like cheery music and the mall. What you wear does not reflect your music taste and hobbies. I wear clothes that people consider preppy, and I think skateboards are cool, even if I can't ride a skateboard to save my life because I have no sense of balance. In fact, there's a poster in the choir room at my school where there's this punkish/gothic/scene (I can't really tell--I'm not familiar with labels because LABELS DID NOT EXIST IN MY HIGH SCHOOL, AND THAT'S FACT) boy playing--guess what? The freakin' cello! You would think that boy would be playing an electric guitar, but he was playing the cello.

╚══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝

Honey, there was a topic in my high school newspaper about school uniforms--and many of the people the newspaper people questioned AGREED that uniforms could be a good thing. In fact, the concept of uniforms was someone's persuasive essay topic, and that someone was all for school uniforms.

Of course, my school DID NOT REQUIRE UNIFORMS, NOR DID IT SAY THAT WE NEED TO WEAR UNIFORMS, but many high school students saw the pros of uniforms.

And I'm in college now, by the way.

Also, I FAIL to see how wearing uniforms can deter your way of life. People who wear uniforms DO NOT ALL have the same likes and dislikes. In fact, uniforms are only clothing. In Japan, everyone wears uniform so people can distinguish which school they go to, but the kids have a MINDSET OF THEIR OWN. There may be a kid wearing a uniform who likes heavy metal, and there may be a kid wearing THE SAME UNIFORM who hates heavy metal and likes classical music.

Unless you've gone up to someone in a uniform and talked to them, you CANNOT assume everyone in uniform are the same.

Why don't you come to the real world?

If you don't have an education, you can't get a well paying job (excluding prostituion). Sure, there are people who care about their looks. They're probably not going very far in life if that's ALL they care about. Odds are they'll be trash in ten or so years.

...Honestly, if you've looked somewhere, even in the Extended Discussion now, sadly, most
of Gaia is filled with idiots. Yeah, a lot of people care what they look like. That's what makes me wonder about the future. But even so, most people can see how to make themselves dress their style, even with a uniform. Creativity is a wonderful thing, you know.
I like them because school isn't about individuality.
You're there to learn.

It shouldn't be a popularity contest or fashion show.

And with the rapidly depleting average IQ of the united states I wish they would be a little more strict about dress codes and behavioral rules.

If they were so creative, they'd find more creative ways of expressing their so-called individuality.

If they feel limited by their uniform, ******** 'em. They're clearly not possessed of much creativity anyway.

I don't understand why people would let themselves walk around like mindless clones all day long.

╚══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝

Most kids area already mindless clones. Even without uniforms, they wear the same type of shoes and clothes. They carry the same style of bag, tan, dye their hair and then end up looking alike. It's called cliques. I had uniforms since I started school up until middle school. I didn't mind them at all. My school sure had ugly as uniforms, but I really wanted to wear the private school's uniform. Now those were cute. Honestly, uniforms are nothing to b***h about. It saves money actually. Instead of buying a ton of new clothes, a few sets of uniforms will do you just fine. There are even places you can buy them extra cheap. It also enforces the dress code because honestly, some people don't understand what's appropriate for school.
