Why should we save them, just because they're "adorable"?

What about the millions, probably more like BILLIONS, or even TRILLIONS of insects that are needlessly slaughtered, every year, by pesticides, just because they're invading in someone's home?

They're remains aren't even put to good use, just thrown away! At least the seals can provide us some warmth and fashion!

But you only care about the cute, fuzzy little seals, don't you?

Ok, put it this way. Seals are a food source for over twenty three different types of whales. If the killing continues, you're not just cutting down their population, but your destroying an entire food chain. But all your thinking about it your cute little boots and your furry little scarves, right?

What about the families that rely on the income seal fur brings in? What if I did a photo-op of the starving children of the sealers instead? Everyone would be gung-ho to club seals, that's what. Don't let the cuteness factor make your decisions for you. There is a lot to consider.

I realize that. But if the killings aren't controlled, if we let it get out of hand, we destroy god knows how many different food chains. Can you imagine the chain reaction that would follow? Can you imagine how that would affect everyone?

Sealing is not exactly a lucrative business. It's not going to spiral out of control, trust me. Even if it did, and all the baby seals did go extinct, we'd not be changing a terrible lot. Seals aren't exactly a vital part of our ecosystem.

Basic Biology: ripple effect. What affects one ecosystem, will, in time, affect all. With seals gone, their prey will increase in numbers. And then other predators will increase in numbers in order to compensate. And when the prey's population can't keep up with the predator's appetite, the predators will migrate for food. And they'll invade another ecosystem. In doing that, they throw off the balance of that ecosystem. So that it becomes a vicious cycle.

First off, the study of biology doesn't have much to do with environmental science. You're thinking ecology. Second, mother nature is not some fragile, delicate flower. Third, this doesn't matter because sealing is not going to disturb the ecosystem. Stopping sealing in areas where it is traditional, will.

Actually if you must know, pesticides have been banned in our community thanks to a petition we sent in to the county last year. They don't spray anywhere near our area.

Actually I posted it on gaia because I have it linked to myspace and facebook. Anything that goes to my myspace is automatically sent to all my friends to let them know, as with facebook. Gets the message across faster.

There aren't enough seal hunters in Canada to kiill all of the seals. However, the reason I have no respect for the ant-seal-hunting lobby is the fact that the cause is popular in Spain, where they consider the Running Of The Bulls and matadorial "sports" quality entertainment and not murder for the lulz.
